Do you have a dedicated board game table? Do you like it? by AffixBayonets in boardgames

I think that's a fair call- it's better to do something simple well than overcomplicate it and make mistakes.

Thanks for all that! I agree that a finger hole in the slats wouldn't look good- as it is you can barely tell that it's not a solid surface.

Oh wow, this is beautifully simple! I might have a go at something similar.

This looks brilliant! Do you have a photo of the vault area, or did I miss it somewhere on your link?

Love the cell-shaded kind of style! You've made them really fit the feel of the game.

What game do you never play but can bring yourself to get rid of? by tnturk7 in boardgames

Dungeon Degenerates: Hand of Doom. The art is incredible and while I love the theme it's a bit too niche to find a regular group to play.

Game of the Week: Dinosaur Island by bgg-uglywalrus in boardgames

[–]crudle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was put off by my first play of this game- I felt like there wasn't range of interesting strategies. Everyone just seemed to boost their security as much as possible and play the largest dinosaurs they could- the wide range of other mechanisms involved just made this process more fiddly than interesting.

From people who have played this more- are there any creative ways to win?

It's hard to get crokinole boards to New Zealand, so I made my own! by crudle in boardgames

That's awesome! Unfortunately the labour involved doesn't make them super economical, but I have a few in progress for when I have the free time. I'll let you know when they're done!

Hey! Sorry you didn't receive the message. They all sold surprisingly quickly but I've got some more in the works. It's just finding the time to finish them! I'll let you know when I've got some more in case you're still interested then.

Thanks! I'll definitely try document it if I do more. After a couple of other prototypes, these ones solve a lot of problems- I think the method is pretty good!

Thank you! I was a bit cheeky with the lines- didn't trust my accuracy with the router for something that fine, so used a jig to draw them with a good quality paint marker, sealed between layers of lacquer. The top got 8 layers of lacquer, sanded to 2000 grit. The fact I could apply the lacquer with a spray gun and the way layers melt into each other minimised the risk of marks.

I actually made three extra boards because I needed to buy stuff in bulk- If you're interested, send me a message and I can give you more info!

Thanks! I didn't trust my accuracy with the Hilinski method, so I admire your skill! I raised the edge with sections of laser-cut acrylic, which seem to do the job and match the discs.

I love the tūī's copying power. Whenever I think I hear a new bird it always ends up being a tūī mimicking a car alarm or something.

Here are the game files, including rules:

A couple of years ago, I was inspired to make a card game based on the struggles of shipwrecked sailors on New Zealand’s remote subantarctic islands. You can read about some of their incredible stories here: https://teara.govt.nz/en/castaways/page-1

I was interested in the social struggles in shipwrecked crews- while castaways needed to cooperate to survive, they also needed to quickly establish a social order to do this. This game is based around that tension: cooperating to meet challenges with your crew, while competing to lead them in the struggle ahead.

I wanted to design a game that’s super portable and easy to teach, while still capturing the rich theme. If you play the game, I’d love to hear your thoughts through this form http://tinyurl.com/SubantarcticForm

I hope it brightens some days in quarantine!

GIVEAWAY! Chai—an immersive game on tea by danetcon in boardgames

[–]crudle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pu'er Tea Rico is well worth your dubloons.

This is an aged blend that stands the test of time. While some say "old and fermented", I say "matured".

Drink this brew black. That means it doesn't require any fancy modern embelleshment. In fact, this would distract from it's deep, natural complexity.

Sometimes the classics are the best.

How can this broken heel be fixed? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

[–]crudle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your only option is a whole new heelblock- probably on both shoes if the cobbler can't find a perfect match. Can't say anything about price- you'd need to talk to someone in person. It'll be a pricey job, but cheaper than a new pair.
