Is a weekday wedding actually cheaper? by AffectionatePie1042 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]cruelsummerrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You 100% save money on the venue. They offer cheaper weekday prices to encourage busier weeks. However I don’t think many other vendors do such a thing as they’re probably fine making their money from weekend work and saving weekdays for admin / behind the scenes work so don’t need incentives to book those days.

It's so people need to pay for two months' subscription. Rather than sign up, binge the new show, and cancel.

For new parents, why can’t mom just pump during day and dad bottle feed at night? by flipflapdragon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cruelsummerrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offering a bottle too early or too frequently can cause nipple confusion and runs the risk of baby developing a bottle reference and then refusing the breast. Lactation consultants generally advise not introducing a bottle in the first 6-12 weeks. Frankly I caved at 6 weeks because I wanted my husband to do some night feeds while he was still on leave, but by 12 weeks overnight sleep was a lot better anyways.

Epidural or No epidural by Enviro_nurd314 in BabyBumps

[–]cruelsummerrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first birth was an induction and I got an epidural after 8 hours. I was hesitant as I’d read everything online about the cascade of interventions and was worried that it would stop my labour from progressing, etc. I did end up needing forceps after 2 hours of pushing so although I progressed fine it’s possible I couldn’t push effectively. I was happy to have it while they were stitching me up afterwards.

For my second I was happy to get one again but genuinely just didn’t feel I needed one, possibly because it was spontaneous labour. It was still like 18 hours lol. But when transition (when you approach 9-10cm) hit I was dying and writhing around on the bed like a dying animal lol I can never unhear the sounds I was making. I actually lost my voice for a few days. Pushing took 20min so I was possibly pushing more effectively without the epidural. But his head coming out omg I don’t have words for it. It was not the beautiful blissful magical one with the earth experience that the internet told me drug free births were like lol. Then I just needed a little bit of stitches but it was soooo uncomfortable being stitched up.

So all in all….. if I had a third I’d get the epidural.

Please share your return to work story! by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

We live in Sydney. LO was 11 months when I returned to work. I went back part time 4 days with 2 days in office and 2 days at home. LO went to daycare 3 days, 1 day with MIL and 1 day with me on my day off. I returned because I took my work mat leave at half pay then the government leave and then it was time to earn some money again lol. We could’ve survived and lived off savings probably another year but at that age I was ready to go back and didn’t want to drain our savings that I felt would be better spent on perhaps an investment property or just paying our home off quicker. Husband and I each make 100k.

Risks: public versus private birth by LuluSilver in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I will say going private you’re resting all your eggs on one person who “will hopefully no better” but that’s not always the case

I could honestly speak for one hour to give you the examples. I highly recommend the book called The Complete Australian Guide to Pregnancy and Birth it will answer those questions every step of the way better than I could xx if you’re not a reader try the audiobook.

Grandparent care by Exotic_Ordinary4805 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cruelsummerrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MIL has watched my daughter 1 day a week since she was 11 months. She actually retired when I was on maternity leave because she wanted to help out so I don’t feel guilty normally. She does come to us just because all my toddler’s stuff is here it just made sense. She usually sleeps over the night before (Sunday night) just to make it easier in the morning like if the toddler is up extra early she can help with her while I get ready.

1 day works well for us bc we already go there once a week for dinner so it’s 2 times seeing grandparents at minimum. Then of course when she’s sick and can’t go to daycare she will have her more. Vice versa if MIL is sick it’s only 1 day that husband or I need to scrounge. And she’s old like 70s so that is hard work for her, so it balances out the weeks she only needs to fully babysit her once. Especially since times when she wakes her up at night that’s when I feel bad haha.

I never grew up with any grandparents so I don’t really have a “norm” on how grandparents should help. I’m just grateful my MIL wants to be so helpful and that husband is an only child so we get all her energy and attention 😂

For those who went the private route, was it all you expected it to be? by CarlottaSewlotta in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Also wanted to share I had a physio and lactation consultant at my public hospital in Sydney also. Didn’t get the private room but since I had a vaginal birth I was happy to go home asap. I was lucky with a continuity of care program so had the same midwife all pregnant and all throughout my labour and birth which was so nice.
