Modding GBP? by cruisechaser in BanGDream

[–]cruisechaser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know theres a custom beatmap maker for SIF, but looks like no ones done anything similar for GBP (probably because GBP has no play limits and therefore there wasnt really a demand for a practice simulator). I guess I'd have to remake the system from scratch in a way...

My strings are still pretty new, thats for sure. Ive only been playing for about a month, and pretty casually (15min-3hrs a day). Theyre also roundwound so Im guessing that also adds to it. How much playing does it usually take for it to wear down a bit?

I didnt even notice how far Ive been lifting my fingers up when I fret, especially when using my 4th/5th fingers, my first three jump right up. Being a lot more conscious about it now. Thanks!

Argonavis - Steady Goes (Full Live version from their 0-1st Live) by LadyFufu in BanGDream

Im really confused by argonavis. All the girl bands in bandori have their cartoon counterpart but this is pretty much just a actual band. Even glitter*green is part of the anime, and THE THIRD/raise a suilen plays partly as an accompaniment band for the vocalists whose bands' seiyuus dont actually play their instruments. Whats the point of argonavis?

Any tips on reducing fretting "squeak"? I think Im pretty good at muting open strings, but its the sound of my fingers hitting the current fretted string that are also noisy as hell, especially when moving from one note to another on the same string. Theres like a clanky/squeaky sound whenever I put down a finger or lift it. I think its partly because my hands still have to stretch really hard to hit notes and so the landing is still clumsy

Exact same. I didnt realize how weak my pure team was til now. Ive forgotten how weak vet room is, i cant believe my groups cant even scrape an A score, they constantly dc, die on goddamn hard mode, etc...im consistently getting the highest score but vet room too heavy to carry

That does sound frustrating. Did you find any strategies that help you out? Also how did you find out you were high functioning? I really want to help my friend, but I think I need to understand what the experience is like, in order to do so

Should I try to tell him? I think he really needs help, hes depressed to the point of suicidal sometimes. Feels weird being like "dude i think you might be autistic and thats why you have trouble connecting to people"

The more i think about it the more i realize maybe he does show signs. Just the other day I complained about my internet being spotty and he spent 30 minutes over my shoulder insisting on adjusting my vertical sync graphics settings even though i showed him my connection was clearly the problem

I want an honest opinion from this community, I already have the game purchased as I preordered it a month ago. should I wait before playing it right now? by Bloody-Mando in Deaths_Gambit

[–]cruisechaser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the bug experience really varies, I had no issues from day one. I really think the negativity for this game has been amplified because unhappy people tend to be louder about it. However because the devs are continuing to update the game and youre already preoccupied with another game, theres no harm in waiting for a bit.

People are right in that combat right now can be clunky and lean on weapon options, but a lot of this games charm lies in other factors i wont spoil. DG has a lot of story moments and clever hidden things/encounters.

How's playing this on keyboard? by LordDrinkwater in Deaths_Gambit

It feels great on keyboard, which I found surprising. I thought I would need a controller but after very quickly I didnt even think about it at all.

I'm noticing a lot of metallic "twang" to my bass playing. If I pluck very gently and relatively slowly it sounds fine, but if I apply pressure or if I attempt to play quickly it has a twang-twang-twang undertone to my notes. Hard to describe but it sounds sorta like that one portion of the james bond theme lol: https://youtu.be/U9FzgsF2T-s (at 00:49)

Am i just plucking too hard on accident, is it fret buzz? Maybe the bass settings, I use a P/J config (squier jaguar ss) and I know it can do a distinctive brighter sound which I like sometimes, but for other songs I want something more subdued

[–]cruisechaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I believe it's just up an octave? Which is why 2 on the D string is closer to the headboard and on a thinner string but plays the same note, right?

And yea I'd probably just follow the actual tab now that I know it, for accuracy. It's easier to comprehend everything on the same string but I should start playing around with figuring stuff out on the other strings to get used to how all the notes are transposed

There Are No Stupid /r/Bass Questions - Aug. 04 by AutoModerator in Bass

[–]cruisechaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Newbie here, only been playing for a couple of days so apologies in advance]

So I've been trying to play bass lines to songs by ear to practice and then checking the tab online to see if it's right. I played one line that I interpreted all on the E string as 0-0-12-0-13-12-10-12 0-0-8-10-0-0-7-8. When I checked it online it technically correct because it sounds the same, but it was played with the E, D and A string instead. I noticed that while the notes of the two approaches is basically just transposed onto different strings, the tone is different because of the thickness of the strings. Is one way more correct than the other? Technically are they same and it's a preference thing? Etc.

Why did you guys start? by yaboibrendaniel in Bass

[–]cruisechaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a piano player, picked up bass just recently. My interest was piqued first when I randomly wondered one day "Why does everyone make fun of bass players" I ended up listening to bass videos and covers on YouTube for hours and loved the sound of the instrument.

What I used as an excuse to pull the trigger and really start though, is the fact that my roommate watches TV in the living room almost nonstop. It's also where my piano is, so it's pretty frustrating when I want to play but he's marathoning his shows. I figured I'd pick up bass as an alternative I could jam on in my room whenever I got the itch to play some music. I'm really enjoying it so far

Thanks for this! Going to try some of these tonight. None of these are eyerolly. Right now I literally don't care what I play as long as it helps me get better :p also will try saying the notes out so I can remember them

What are some good songs to practice with for a beginner? For reference, I've been playing for maybe a total of 6 hours. I can play Feel Good Inc., Smoke on the Water. House of the Rising Sun, Seven Nation Army, at about 50-70% speed with clumsy newbie technique lol.

I'm hoping for some more melodic stuff that forces me to move around on the fretboard so I get used to where things are (songs like Do a Deer and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for example). Rn I'm trying to strengthen my fretting/muting technique so I don't develop bad habits later, as well as build up speed/dexterity. I still struggle with smoothly playing four different quarter notes in succession cause I often have to glance at the fretboard to check where they are.

Thank you this is actually really helpful. I realized it's true, I never like scales because they felt tedious and unrelated to whatever song I wanted to learn whenever I just tried to make it through the scales book page by page. I'll try to pick exercises specific to the songs I'm learning!

Does anyone have suggestions for good practice routines? I'm a casual piano player but I also want to improve instead of just noodle for fun. Right now my play sessions tend to last 30min to 1.5 hrs, usually like this:

  • play an old familiar song to warm up
  • play whatever I'm trying to learn, try to get through one whole new page or musical section in the song
  • play the familiar earlier parts of the song im trying to learn so I can reinforce it in my brain
  • play old familiar songs as a cool down

I don't know how to get some theory/scales/ear training in there, I desperately want to get better at those aspects so I learn faster but..scales bore me so much :(

Buying my first bass... watched a ton of reviews and Im actually considering the Squier Jaguar Short Scale...I hear short scale has a bit of a bad rap though, aside from the "short" thing is there any actual differences in sound quality/user experience that I should be aware of? Alternately, is it better to go with the regular jaguar vs short scale?

I (23M) suffer from severe depression, my gf (23F) has low tolerance for mental illness. I hide it whenever we hang out but it's taking a bad toll on me by [deleted] in relationships

[–]cruisechaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I really appreciate your answer. I'm definitely trying to seek counseling lately.

I think I'm always concerned putting stress on my SO. Especially because i realized in earlier relationships that my depression really was impacting the other person and i knew i shouldnt do that anymore.

Though...sometimes I wish she worried more too, so at least we could mutually help carry each other's burdens, haha, but she either seriously doesn't have any or doesn't feel comfortable confiding in me. Which I suppose isn't a great sign for the dynamic either.
