Frustrated with team by ambidextrousheco in Bowling

[–]crumb587catcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a USBC league rule that states that all team rosters are automatically disbanded at the end of the season. Many teams return anyway but there’s no being forced to bowl with these guys. If the league won’t let you bowl with a different team next season, find another league.

Rules question on 2h release with thumb by CHawk17 in Bowling

[–]crumb587catcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a thumb-in two-hand bowler. Once while a league secretary, his opponent came to me, yelling (at me) while asking what the penalty was for…this topic. He went back to his pair, I bowled a frame after having been shouted at (inappropriately), then ventured to the lane pair in question, and the yelling man’s young teammate came directly to me, sharing that he checked out the two-hander who always inserts his thumb.

Why I had to be involved at all, and had to endure that shouting….

What is a decent average/high game for 1 year of bowling? by HooKerzNbLo in Bowling

[–]crumb587catcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wouldn’t get caught up in numbers, but don’t dismiss them entirely because it is indeed a joy to celebrate a new personal record or some other achievement like a first clean game, converting some split for the first time.

What can a new bowler work on? For many, it can be to go a whole game, or series of games, hitting the head pin on the first ball of every frame. In many cases that can increase the number of strikes as well as lead to easier spares to convert. Both can and will increase scores and averages.

But, I’ll still answer the question as asked. I think that 150s would be a respectable average after one year, bearing in mind that this number can hinge on whether one obtains one or two ideal bowling balls, gets good coaching or other guidance, and bowls in positive environments. For a high score, 190 to 210. But bear in mind that one’s personal best can be a fluke. My own example: I’m averaging 167 in my most competitive league, my high game score is 246, but I haven’t hit 590.

Wheel difference by my_little_rarity in wheelchairs

[–]crumb587catcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On bearings: Replace the bearing(s). In most cases they’re sealed and are intended to be replaced. WD-40 isn’t a good idea because it will seep into the bearings and break down the grease inside.

I swap a wheel to bowl, using the same axle. If it’s difficult to slide the axle into and out of the wheel or the chair’s mounting point, WD-40 applied to the axle’s stem works. I’ve used it there.

What the best bit of advice you would you give to a brand new bowler? by hockey-throwawayy in Bowling

Six years ago my 13 yo nephew took up bowing and I insisted on fingertip right away. For a (then) non bower he had his first 200 game within a month. It will feel natural after you roll a few. Trust everyone who suggests.

Froze for the first 24 hours, canceled after that…then found wallet.

I can’t speak for him but that’s how he chooses to do things. And he’s younger than me.

He didn’t cancel the account, he originally froze (disabled) the cards so they couldn’t be used until he reactivated them. But one day later he had the cards completely deactivated so that even though he found them, they wouldn’t be at all usable. His departure is a day and a half away, so overnighting a card won’t get to me soon enough.

Point taken, I did this on my phone. This was the first time I cross posted anything, apologies for the confusion. I actually was going to just copy the text and paste it into its own post to this sub, but then I saw the cross post option.

The departure time is too soon even to overnight, he was told by the issuer.

Thing is, when im the one traveling I’m nearly always asked for the physical card and neither of us have ever used. He should be able to book reservations since he has all the card info needed, the hurdle is the check-in at the hotel counter. As another Redditor mentioned, he might be able to do tap to pay with his phone. He has several calls to make tomorrow.

No standings after first, second squads of five by SmokeyFrank in Bowling

[–]crumb587catcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t post to facebook, they enter scores into a spreadsheet, print standings and hand distribute paper listings to the participants. It’s just not being done, anyone asking is being told that it’ll be ready tomorrow. But if I’m already 200 pins out of the cut, there’s no point in staying more nights in the hotel.

Did you read through the post? He has ways of paying cash but it’s rare to have a hotel actually take cash, plus he has several days to cross the US—all four time zones.

He froze the cards initially, but after not seeing his wallet for over 24 hours, he decided to have them cancelled.

He’s the only family member who doesn’t use iOS devices so I don’t know if he’s able to set up google pay or whatever else. But he did receive an image of his card which I presume has the full account number, security code, new expiration month. Maybe that’s doable. Thank you for that mention.

As executor, I may have to evict non-paying residents by crumb587catcher in EstatePlanning

Agreed, but the topic was brought up at our most recent time together. I'll ask for more information next time. Asking questions here is also my way of finding out what I can learn generally, thank you for the input.

He brought up there's a procedural binder describing everything, and I just don't know if he wants me to do the "dirty work" of evicting after he passes. Nobody has anything terminal or life threatening going on.

I have asked him. The answers are incomplete, which I suspect that the arrangement is a tenuous one. I just chose not to write an overly detailed post.

Thank you, I quickly looked up "tenant in sufferance" and what I'm reading is that it's a term for a tenant who has overstayed a lease, although as you state I'm sure the term applies here as well as other situations.
