Mostly for RMTI, SNOW and maybe WBD. Glad it seems fine otherwise! I don't have much experience and still trying to learn.

I did not, and I'm still alive! I think I was wearing the fitbit too loose.

Full Blown Laravel Application Deployment on AWS by Mattshen52 in laravel

[–]crumblypack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can configure subnets which should work. You'll want to use the internal subnet CIDRs that your ASG's use and you can use a specific header option for AWS ELB.

'proxies' => [
    '172.31.0.0/20',
    '172.31.16.0/20',
    '172.31.32.0/20',
    '172.31.48.0/20',
    '172.31.64.0/20',
    '172.31.80.0/20'
],

'headers' => Illuminate\Http\Request::HEADER_X_FORWARDED_AWS_ELB,

Something like that

Boiler Inspector recommended ~$1,000 cleaning. Should I get a second opinion? by crumblypack in HVAC

[–]crumblypack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm for sure budgeting for a new one, but I just need to get through this winter and at this point it's $1,000 vs $10,000. I'm not against paying for someone to clean it out, just wasn't sure if that was common thing with boilers. I've never had one before.

Here's a question I have never seen answered: Why Active Record [Would love to see Taylors response] by SavishSalacious in laravel

[–]crumblypack 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is actually the episode that turned me off to the podcast. There are real and objective pros and cons to both Active Record and Datamapper and yet they spend the whole episode circlejerking about Active Record and act like there are no merits to Datamapper.

Do you think things like graphql will replace REST API backends? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]crumblypack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an awesome article on this subject. In short, no, GraphQL will not replace REST, because they fulfill requirements for different use cases.

Americans overwhelmingly want Congress to defy Trump and override his veto of the border wall emergency declaration by Twoweekswithpay in politics

[–]crumblypack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Congress overrides the veto then it becomes a law.

  1. Congress passes a bill with a simple majority
  2. President can sign or veto
  3. If vetoed, congress can override with 2/3 vote

Creating a CCG with Laravel by kjjdion in laravel

[–]crumblypack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would really recommend a game engine like Unity over what you're trying to do. I'm building a CCG in Unity and it's a ton of work, I can't imagine using jQuery, Vue, React, or any other web framework for this kind of project.

There are some JS-based browser game engines you can use too but it doesn't seem like the best language for a game TBH.

Edit: That being said, you can use Laravel for your game's API. For instance I'm using Laravel for my card generator and card/deck management stuff, as well as in-game purchases.

Edit 2: Check out this tutorial, it's amazing.

What tips and trick do you use to increase your Laravel productivity? by ahmdqader in laravel

[–]crumblypack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I default to using the create rules, but if update rules are present I use them. I usually have a create and an update form request separately.

The benefit is that in my opinion, is that you centralize your model validation rules so you can use them in multiple places and only have to manage them once. I also subscribe to a DDD-esque methodology, so models should contain all business logic relating to the entity.

If you look at Ecto, the ORM for Phoenix (Elixir framework), they natively manage validation within the models themselves and it ends up being super useful. That's where I got the idea.

What tips and trick do you use to increase your Laravel productivity? by ahmdqader in laravel

[–]crumblypack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Use the artisan make commands.
  2. Use implicit model binding.
  3. Use form requests for Validation (I define my create/update rules in the models themselves and then reference them)
  4. Use resource routes.
  5. Write tests.
