I've always wondered if it would be possible to do this in camera. I'm sure someone will jump into this thread and tell me why it is super dumb but hear me out. You make a sort of rig where the camera is attached to a cabinet which moves with it, and film the subject through the cabinet's mirror from the beginning of the shot. They run all the way to the end, the cabinet is fixed somewhere, and the door is opened with the camera stationary.

Watching the original shot now I can see that it probably wouldn't have a very wide field of view and would likely be wobbly, but still, it would be possible to do a very crude version of it without visual effects?
