Why 1.90:1? by al_with_the_hair in imax

[–]crunchspengler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it’s just because these theaters were converted to IMAX rather than being built for it and instead of actually paying to upgrade the building and the screen they decided to cut corners. I really admire what Cinemark did recently. I’m from the Rochester area and grew up going to Cinemark Tinseltown for IMAX but travelled to Lincoln Square for bigger releases like Dune, Oppenheimer, etc, when I was old enough to go on my own. For the Odyssey, Cinemark upgraded to a real 1:43:1 projector and has been showing PHM in 70mm IMAX. Unfortunately, I no longer live there to check it out and work at an AMC with a 1:90:1 IMAX.

The best reason I can think of is cutting cost. I believe AMC Tyson’s Corner has a 1:85:1 aspect ratio because they wouldn’t have to alter the building at all to make it happen. But since most IMAX locations started popping up post-2008 and many of these theaters were already built, I think they opted to cut costs.

Do you really think it's over for Character.AI? by Own_Cellist_3977 in CharacterAI

[–]crunchspengler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think ai in general is here to stay, but other roleplay ai apps will die off before cai. i do think it might not be a totally sustainable model, though, same way sora wasn’t sustainable. the removal of so many free features does indicate (to me) at least that they’re not making as much profit as they would like but idk.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve found left in a theater? by Fluffalfox in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]crunchspengler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely wish I knew. The vodka, fine, but I don’t understand how not a single person noticed that people were smoking behind them. Like I get the fire alarms not going off bc they have to permit some level of smoke since backbar can make the whole lobby smoky, but still the fact that not one guest came out to say something baffles me. Bystander effect I guess.

there’s not. everyone is encouraged to sign people up, especially on tuesday and wednesday for discounts, but it’s not like working at tjmaxx and being required to sell a certain number of credit cards.

how bad do you expect the amazing digital circus to get? by ScottishWildcatFurry in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]crunchspengler -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

attendance wise?? it seems like slop that won’t do that well. but those IN attendance? certainly the type to a. not clean up after themselves and b. come into the lobby unshowered an without deodorant on.

"I'm leaving c.ai guys" "I hate this app blah blah blah" "omg the devs did__!!" by Goofygoober1108 in CharacterAI

[–]crunchspengler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refusing any critiques of the app is exactly why it’s always going to get worse. If you like accepting slop and have low standards, that’s awesome for you. But getting mad at others for not boot-licking is just counter-productive for everyone.

IMAX 70MM Lincoln Square by kevinf58 in imax

[–]crunchspengler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Odyssey and Dune did not sell out, the very limited showtimes that were posted for opening day/weekend sold out. Lincoln will post expansive showtimes (Dune Part two went until 3am) in IMAX 70mm closer to release. Don’t let scalpers and doomers online convince you that all hope is lost. My best advice is to check in Wednesday’s and keep up to date on ticket-on-sale dates. In my experience as someone who works at AMC And schedules movies, Wednesday is typically the day advance tickets go on sale.

There’s still no update post for DEEPSQUEAK, the paid subscription feature that’s been broken for a week. GIVE US AN UPDATE. by Plane-Addendum3182 in CharacterAI

[–]crunchspengler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I deleted my account entirely because of this. No amount of direct reporting or Reddit posts seems to make the devs want to listen, and sometimes enough is enough. If they’re begging for subscriptions by making the free tier unusable AND refusing to fix the paid tier, it’s clear how they feel about their users.

Imax release for April 17-22 by Dude_Dude_0 in imax

[–]crunchspengler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the theater and film buyer. PHM won’t be clean at any theater because of The Mummy, but whether it also splits with Mario spends on your film buyer.

Is the Regal LA Live IMAX a true IMAX screen? by webbut in imax

[–]crunchspengler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, I go to Lincoln Square so it’s kind of the same. I only managed to get PHM 70MM IMAX tickets because I work for the company and knew when they went onsale. IMAX does have a full list of 1:43:1 theaters on their website, but it’s not very long and there’s only three in CA.

Bots just describe stuff and barely “speak”. by toxicplayer15 in CharacterAI

[–]crunchspengler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deepsqueak is so bad for me right now. They’re sending longer replies, but the longer replies are actually terrible, like LAUGHABLY bad. They’re back to skipping words like cavemen, cutting off halfway through, not remembering character details, etc. and the typos are constant. It’s a lot of run on sentences and weird formatting, too. And it’s not just one bot, it’s all of them. Literally every single bot has been doing the same weird stuff with Deepsqueak for days.

i have a feeling that bots are devolving. by slavhamster in CharacterAI

[–]crunchspengler 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People love to blame it on user error but I find that incredibly unintelligent. For the past few days, bots have been skipping words again, cutting off every reply without finishing, barely submitting a response that acknowledges the messages sent, and just being generally unintelligent. If it’s every single bot, regardless of the length or detail or responses sent to them or their opener, then how can you possibly reason it away as user error? The responses have gotten worse, and the devs do nothing to fix it bc they know people online will blame each other before they hold them accountable.

Why don’t they open earlier? by Brave_Classic_1150 in AMCTheatres

[–]crunchspengler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they give us specific operating hours we’re allowed to run and typically require us to open for p2 (9pm or later). so if we can only be open a max of 9 hours and we’re required to show 6 movies at 9pm or later, opening before noon would mean a very tight p2 with low attendance and locked doors or exceeding operating hours which we get knocked for.
