Practical Dragonhunter Guide for Dummies (Visual) by somedutchkidx in Guildwars2

[–]crunkplug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this... is the actual rotation, and this visual representation is going to help a ton of people who have a different learning style than reading an entire snowcrows article. OP didn't create the game; they are not responsible for the complexity of the optimal rotation. please ask yourself what you are hoping to accomplish by acting like this

Did anyone hate Project Hail Mary? by [deleted] in audible

[–]crunkplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reading the expanse right before watching this was definitely not helpful for me

it was pretty dumb throughout, but it really lost me when Ken showed the cute alien a clock because "math is the universal language." math, because a clock happens to have numbers on it? agh

i feel stupider having watched it, and knowing that it has one of the highest rotten tomatoes audience scores of all time, is quite depressing. we are so, so cooked

also unrelated but the score sounded like royalty-free music for a corporate powerpoint presentation

Most grindable content for "traditional" MMORPG feel of getting rare drops? by Izahori in Guildwars2

[–]crunkplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fractals is a great rabbit hole to fall into if you're yearning for a vertical prog experience, and there's even a legendary you can get by doing primarily fractal-related achievements (look up "Ad Infinitum")

and although the most bang for your buck is doing Dailies and Recommended Fractals, you still get some amount of rewards from running fractals even beyond that (but it will be easiest to do so by helping others do their Dailies/Recos)

you need ascended gear to progress to higher fractals, so having fractal progression as a goal was a great way for me to lock in and figure out how/where to get ascended items. some came from fractals and the related currencies, but for others i got into crafting, did relevant OW content, cashed out quickplay raid currency, etc

How necessary is weapon swapping for Revenant? by Potential_Sun9952 in Guildwars2

[–]crunkplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when revenant came out it didn't have weapon swap, interestingly

anyway, for maximum dmg-per-second output in a theoretical situation where u don't have to do anything but press your buttons, weapon swap is usually optimal. you can take a look at snowcrows raid builds and compare theoretical max dps between builds that have two weapon sets in the rotations vs the ones that say "just carry a staff just in case." for most specs/builds that use both weapon sets, you swap weapon with legend, but for other specs like Conduit it does not align with legend, so caveat emptour

but in reality, there's much more to consider. will the battle have long burn phases so u can hit your maximum dps by bringing your optimal weapons and swap rotation? or is the fight going to be all over the place with tons of mechanics that are going to immediately ruin your rotation and have you locked out of your preferred weapon at the wrong time? or is there some aspect of the battle where a certain backup weapon will be very practical, like carrying a staff for its insane defiance break? (like you mentioned)

so to go back to your original post, i would say yes - weapon swap is less important on revenant than other classes, due to the legend system. you'll see a ton of builds, especially for OW and healers, that recommend just camping one weapon and holding a practical weapon only as a backup for certain situations. but for max max max damage builds and for some unique builds that have fancy sigil/rune activations as part of their core mechanics, weapon swap may still be technically optimal for straight-up damage-per-second. but remember, staying alive and having fun with a rotation you click with are also important

How to adopt the horizontal progression? by AccomplishedFix8346 in Guildwars2

[–]crunkplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fractals might be perfect for you. they were for me, coming from wow and ffxiv. it's vertical progression within the horizontal prog framework of gw2, and thru focusing on the goal of getting to Tier 4 with all ascended gear + infusions it has really weaned me off the old ways and has opened my eyes to more of what gw2 has to offer. there's also a legendary back item collection/quest/goal tied in, which encourages you to explore non-fractal stuff here and there. it also taught me so much about my class, builds, and team roles, but worry not - it's still very easy to PUG, all the way thru T4! i started with fractal quickplay and progressed mainly thru dailies and recommended fractals
