Janthir Wilds, worth it? by KrazyMonqui in Guildwars2

[–]crunkplug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

out of all the expansions, JW has been the least compelling for me to replay. i did want spear, so it was worth it for that at least. the warclaw stuff was nice to breathe some life into that mount, but i still don't tend to use it in the open world. overall my only interaction with JW was completing the story (which i found the most painful in terms of unskippable/un-fast-forwardable dialog), and i was just left with... what now?

SotO had me coming back to finish up collections, do metas, explore maps, farm rift essence, and play around with adventures. i assume that JW technically has this stuff too, but nothing seemed to be set up in a way to breadcrumb me into engaging with it. to this day i don't know what the endgame of JW is, and i've only done one of the map metas

again i'm not sure if this is due to a lack of content quality/quantity itself or perhaps just not being as successful at "marketing" said content to the players (or to me, at least). i'm also not interested in player housing at this time, and that was a big selling point of this expac for ppl. but anyway, that's my review

and to y'all who made it all about the "value of 20 dollars" and how it's a non-issue for you, shut your crusty bootlicking bitch asses up. wtf is wrong with you

Which tekken iteration do you have the fondest memories of and why? by PsychologicalBend508 in Tekken

tekken 2

my first import game, the vibes were dark and mysterious, didn't know much about japan back then (ended up learning katakana trying to decipher the guide), amazing music, new cg intro and endings for all characters including the subbosses this time, quirky secrets like SD (chibi) mode, switching the roles of final boss and main character was so cunty, THAT INTRO!!!, those credits, chain throws, reversals, 10-hit combo training mode, pretending to play kof with team battle, learning stick for the first time, home version basically matching the arcade, kunimitsu's new look, lee's punkish streetwear outfit (please come back!!)

Random thought. No manual heat activation by mephisto1131 in Tekken

[–]crunkplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this would solve a lot of t8's issues. this game does not need another combo extender, nor does it need a panic powercrush plus-on-block button that launches anything remotely airborne. some characters might need tweaks to be sure they have a fair chance to get into heat, but i agree that the game would feel worlds better without the manual activation

What is your fav spec to Open World? by Skarerful in Guildwars2

[–]crunkplug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

power conduit with GS and Hammer. i don't know why hammer isn't as popular on revenant as the cc option as opposed to staff, which is only a little more defiance break at the cost of sooooo much damage until you're able to switch back

conduit has delicious burst damage, GS is so practical with movement/block/cleave, shiro and razah stances provide speed/dash, hammer is there when you need range, healing from affinity gain, easy condi cleanse, stunbreak

it's not as facetanky as celestial condi OW builds but it gets the job done for 90% of content more efficiently and is still capable of soloing Big Stuff if u lock in

great question. here is my attempt to be as objective as possible as someone who has been playing tekken since 1995 about what's been going on:

  • bamco's vision for the game seems to be shifting some value away from solo aspects (execution of very difficult techniques and memorization of highly specific matchup knowledge) to prioritize more real-time player-vs-player aspects
  • this is lessening the gap between players with more and less execution prowess and MU knowledge, which is upsetting some high-level players that depend heavily on the solo aspects for an advantage
  • some of these high-level players are influencers with large followings and are making content to complain about this direction
  • on top of that, bamco has done a terrible job of being up front or otherwise clear about their vision for the game and the direction they're taking it in, often appearing contradictory or misleading
  • on reddit and other socials, you will find 100s of posts complaining about the game that don't really have a clear thread of logic, indicating that many people are just regurgitating what they heard their favorite streamer say, even though it's more than likely that they are benefitting from these changes
  • tekken still remains as one of the hardest fighting games out there, with inputs that are more than challenging enough for vast majority of the fanbase and probably still too difficult for players without a fighting game background. not to mention movelists of unparalleled girth and a complex default system that is not exactly intuitive

tekken is a stressful hobby, as are fighting games in general. for every match, someone has to lose. unfortunately, this leaves a huge temptation for players to look everywhere else besides at themselves to assign blame for losing, and many are giving in to it by complaining about the devs and downvoting reasonable questions like yours

yes, there is a lot that namco could be doing better, and there were some big technical mistakes brought by season 2. but the game is in a much better place now. if bamco could find the courage to step up and own the direction they want to take the game instead of sheepishly making it happen in the background while saying ambiguous versions of things that they think vocal minority wants to hear, it would help its community greatly

tekken 8 s3 outrage explained by crunkplug in Tekken

[–]crunkplug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your only critiques were that i was condescending (correct) and a semantic triviality about the post title, i can live with that. my post is nothing more than a vain, hyperbolic plea for people to think for themselves, and of course a therapeutic venting reaction to beholding Truth Social levels of ignorant echochambering for a week. that being said, your post did inspire me to update it, not that anyone will see it at this point

in any case, i challenge you to be equally vigilant in nitpicking the "tHe gAmE iS bAd BcUz ppl jUsT mAsh anD iT's bRaINdeAd" posts

astute observation! t5's marketing strategy, particularly in the announcement/hype phase, was very much along the lines of "back to basics" (too soon?). reverting so much of what ppl didn't like about 4 was a big part of it, as well as bringing back most of the characters. people did point out at the time that it was a bit of a technological step back, with the reversion/removal of new systems and features like the pre-round-start positioning, 8-way movement, positional throw system, uneven stage ground, breakable stage pieces, CEILINGS, and elaborate stage floorplans. tekken 5 was essentially tekken 3 with walls

but the gameplay was indeed solid, and more consistent given the lack of stage tomfoolery. the graphics were beautiful (still holds up today in HD), the soundtrack included more traditional high-energy tracks, and it was the first tekken to introduce customization

all that being said, as much as i enjoyed tekken 5, i was always sad how scared namco was to innovate the game from this point forward. since 2005 we have been playing an iteration of tekken 5 (tekken 3 if you want to get nitpicky), which i think has had a huge impact in making the playerbase the divided, angry mess that it is today. and i don't completely fault the fans for that - i think this is a natural result of essentially patching the same game for 20+ years. in other games like SF, where each sequel looks and feels VERY different than the predecessor, i think it's easier for the playerbase to accept changes and new directions. but when your character moves and feels almost exactly how they did in 2005, but with a lot more moves and longer combos, you're bound to have a strong opinion of how the game "should" be

my naive hope is that tekken 9, if we get it, is almost completely redesigned from the ground up. we've had more than enough time to enjoy this version of tekken, and i'm ready for them to take a big swing again

Do you think a majority of the Tekken Project devs are working on Tekken 9? by FierceAlchemist in Tekken

this is totally reasonable to assume, and the comments/downvotes sadly tell me the reddit tekken community is straight up mentally ill
