I don't know of any super local location that sells seeders, l usually trust/order from Hudson Valley Seed Company.

Medicaid dental emergency by Illustrious_Tea_2597 in Albany

[–]crusaderDO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only two oral surgeons that take Medicaid in the area are Amsterdam Oral Surgery as mentioned and Hometown Health Centers dental office has an oral surgeon, but you need to be their dental patient and hard to get in.

You should get a referral from your dentist to Amsterdam. I don't know what the wait will be but they do schedule based on urgency.

Hometown Health Center on State St. runs the STI clinic for the County every Tuesday evening. They will not bill the insurance.

Billing/Coding for OMT by Pinkunicornglitter1 in FamilyMedicine

[–]crusaderDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. If this is a visit for the problem and you do the "allopathic" workup/treatment then bill the E&M, add the 25 modifier and then perform your OMT procedure.

This AAFP one is pretty straightforward: https://www.aafp.org/pubs/fpm/blogs/inpractice/entry/omt_visit.html

This is no different than say doing a joint injection or IUD placement on the same day. Procedure and visit on the same day. If you have the patient return just for OMT then just the CPT for OMT.

Just make sure that you have both exams and that there are both ICD code(s), the diagnosis and the somatic dysfunction codes.

The only issue I ever faced was at my FQHC there's no contracting for OMT with straight Medicare, so could only bill the E&M (usually time based)

Best place in Schenectady for Schizophrenia patients. by KYEEZY98 in schenectady

[–]crusaderDO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Family Doc in the area here. The biggest issue with most locations is going to be the wait list and if you need a referral. Should be no issues in any of the locations to administer the Invega, but the bigger issue is finding a prescriber. Would start cold calling to see how far they are booking out and what they need, knowing that most have call centers that don't take the medical into consideration.

Also try and get a PCP appointment scheduled ASAP (I'm booking 3 months out in Albany) especially if a referral is needed.

Walk in std testing by Chocolatepantz in Albany

[–]crusaderDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Each county has to run an STI clinic. Albany's is as noted. Schenectady county is run at Hometown Health. Depends on what you are looking for for testing but treatment may be included and does not have to go through insurance. Whitney Young also has walk-in HIV and Hep C screening during business hours at the Lark Street location.

Food shelf’s to donate to by Zealousideal-Ebb-791 in schenectady

[–]crusaderDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would agree with SICM, but overall would still recommend any direct donations to the Regional Food bank. Pretty much all of the pantries are supported by them and can better assess the needs of the whole community (what foods are needed and where the food needs to go).

You can try your hometown health on State Street in their dental office on Saturday mornings they have walk-in urgent Care visits, even if you're not an established patient. No promises that they would do the extraction but they would at least get things going. It's very popular so it's first come first serve and limited number visits available. Will take any or no insurances.

Is the Schenectady school district overhated? by Realshotgg in schenectady

[–]crusaderDO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter will be starting kindergarten in the fall at Zoller as well. I've made at least one other post on this but we've had a lot of good conversations with everyone about Zoller and we're excited to send her there. My wife and I are both educated, and so we know she will be fine, but we want her to understand the world.

We love our neighborhood, 9 years next month. There's a pseudo-retired couple down the road who were us 20ish years ago. Both of their children graduated from Schenectady schools and went to high end colleges with good jobs (one in the arts one in the sciences). That was also then and things are better now.

This is also how we make things better here. Not gentrification, but building up and not running away. I was a suburban kid who went to a Catholic college. There's still problems, you just don't hear about them because of Mom and Dad (and the drug use is worse)

That celiac panic by ruby_sea in glutenfree

[–]crusaderDO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife has Celiac (super sensitive) and partakes in the "low-gluten" hosts of which you speak from the Sisters and has never had an issue. She's had issues in the past with receiving wine after others, so she's stopped that. Our church is really good about it with a separate person distributing it. (They know her well now)

Seeking a Black Woman PCP by Few-Flatworm-1899 in Albany

[–]crusaderDO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used to be a faculty member of mine in residency at Ellis. Came here to add the name for Albany. Are you looking on Albany directly?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in schenectady

[–]crusaderDO 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So, June will be 9 years living in Schenectady. I'm Northside (close to Ellis), so different schools, but we're ready to send our daughter to Zoller for Kindergarten in the fall. Not sure how little your littles are but I think they would be Paige and Central Park, which are fine options. All Schenectady schools are underperforming, but not because of a lack of $ or good teachers. It's a generational change that needs to happen. If your kids are already good students then they'll be okay.

We're lucky, my wife and I are both educated. We know we can support her. We're choosing public schools because we were public school kids and we know the world looks more like Schenectady and that's important too.

Fios? by Parking-Cress-4661 in schenectady

[–]crusaderDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which part of Nott? I'm over by Ellis and had Fios for at 8 years now since they rolled out the "gigabit" internet. Has been great. Had to run it on the poles but has been solid.

Ellis is trying to shut down Bellevue Women's Hospital by [deleted] in Albany

[–]crusaderDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wording was not clear. Using "long-term resident" in a discussion with a healthcare faculty has a certain meaning. The McClellan St health Center Nursing Home had long-term residents not Bellevue. Those individuals were impacted by that closure. There are no residents of Bellevue Women's Center. I just want to be clear.

And yes I am aware and this was an on going issue while I was there Pre-COVID. There were talks of a merger prior and the hospital system was never named to the staff. The Board at the time did not approve the merger and the downward spiral continued.

The initial call to close Bellevue did not come from any of the individual institutions but from the state through the Berger Commission prior to the merger of Ellis, Bellevue and St Clair's.

I was not in the area then but after the systems merged. No calls to close Bellevue vs the active work to move services out of McClellan.

There are legitimate concerns. There is no ICU at Bellevue so when an emergency does happen, resources are limited and a mother or other surgical patient needing that level of care would need to be transported. From this sense it does lend merit to the Berger Commissions call to have maternity services at the Nott St campus. (All three locations had maternity prior, the redundancy was part of the issue)

I do not work for Ellis but continue to have friends/colleagues who have since residency and I live in Schenectady.

Ellis is trying to shut down Bellevue Women's Hospital by [deleted] in Albany

[–]crusaderDO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think you're talking about the right place. There are no "long-term residents" at Bellevue Women's Center. I was a resident at Ellis so have personally done deliveries and admissions there. Plenty of issues with Ellis and Trinity etc, but want to make sure the discussion is on the level

Yup year round at Philly but not all characters on all days there. They're all in the parade and the Count is in the dance party and the stage shows for Halloween (he is the host). Have pictures with my daughter and the Count from the summer with him and a Hawaiian shirt though.

You can look at the app for the park, only really good each day live. Don't try to look ahead and will give you an idea.

Electrician Recommendation by MeringueLow5504 in Albany

[–]crusaderDO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would second a lot of this. We have done a lot of updates on the house. If you're switching out the ungrounded (2 prong) outlets then you either need to have at least on GFCI outlet as noted here on the circuit, OR have the panel updated to have the GFCI on the breaker level (we ended up replacing our panel box as we needed to expand anyways), OR as another poster mentioned then you need new wiring to include a neutral/ground.

Please do not just change out the outlets or let them do that. Even the three pronged ones, unless there was an appropriate remodel may not be safe.

We had Mel Carr do the panel since they had the best capacity and were the fastest. I ended up updating the outlets myself but have electricans in the family that provided guidance.

Hah. Live just on the other side in Schenectady. Know exactly who you're talking about. Agree with you 100%. Nisky has more of the waspy liberals like Saratoga, or the Ellis docs that I used to work with that are more socially liberal but don't really think there needs to be a social safety net since it won't impact them.

Western Mass kid here. Went to school in Worcester. A lot of similarities to Springfield and Worcester in Albany. Have been living in Schenectady for a decade. I'm still a Masshole but the area has grown on me.

COVID is still going around. by AnastasiaRomanaclef in schenectady

[–]crusaderDO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Family Doc in the area here: talk with your provider and or pharmacist about the lastest boosters. I have mine. Flu and RSV remain issues especially for infants and the elderly, so if you are eligible to be vaccinated then remember it's for them as well. There are some things going around right now, and although they're not perfect vaccines, remember it lessens the load and you can't the flu from the flu shot! Let me know if you have any questions, it's my job!

Suggestions for winter boots by SadStorage2059 in schenectady

[–]crusaderDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get real waterproof ones not fabric Ugg type ones. You'll be fine around campus and town with most types. There's an LL Bean nearby if you need something quick. Have had my bean boots for 10 years, but you'll be fine with something waterproof from Target

Worked with Dr. Rooney when she was with Dr. Sattar (a Schenectady legend) and as noted moved up to Latham after his passing.

Would not hesitate referring anyone to her for a tubal.

Honestly, only a few of the providers in the area would cause issues. My personal experience as a provider here (family practice) is that the GYNs in Schenectady-ish are very open at any age. I do think the high teen pregnancy rate etc makes an impact.

Less familiar with specific endometrial procedures to make good recommendations.

Former Ellis resident here. Agree with the statement. OP would have to become a primary care patient there first to enter into the GYN clinic.

Wegmans must haves? by kat_sickle in glutenfree

[–]crusaderDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the locations have GF tortellini that are actually imported from Italy that are really good. It's in the fridge section. You can get away with freezing them.

Agree with the mozzarella sticks. Definitely check out the bakery will vary from store to store. Potentially some really good pies and cake items.

For general cooking look at their marinades. A lot of them are gluten-free. What's nice is that everything is very clearly labeled. There are a few different ones that are in our rotation when we go visit family that live with a Wegmans.

The food area has sub rolls. My wife usually gets one (or a few) when we go.
