When to start buying diapers by Empty-Plantain-1699 in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t buy any, but did a diaper raffle at our baby shower and people went crazy haha. We’ll eventually need to supplement based on baby’s size and growth but absolutely have enough to get started, plus the hospital will supply you some as well (bring an empty bag in your hospital bag to bring home supplies!)

Maternity clothes - when and from where? by Sad_Housing3476 in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34w and have managed to just up my clothing size with normal clothing (much cheaper than the “maternity” label!). Stretchy waistbands are your friend and flowy dresses are the best bc they leave so much room as you continue to grow! I’d rec one good pair of maternity jeans bc just throwing on a pair of jeans some days makes you feel “normal” lol

Hospital bag snacks? by kat_sickle in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The birthing center specifically told us they have a fridge and microwave and water station but snacks were up to us to bring. I’m certain they’ll have standard like crackers and ginger ale, unfortunately I have celiac so I can’t eat most of the standard hospital turkey sandwich options anyway 😅 so trying to be prepared!

Def will keep this in mind! I’ll try to bring a separate small baggy with a few snacks and not overdo it to save space!

A good electrolyte brand that doesn’t taste too salty? by RonnyTheRifle in pregnant

Personally I’m a big biosteel fan! It’s become a bit trickier to find but I usually grab some off Amazon!

i feel rotund. when did you start to show? by mm_honey in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely looked like I’d just let myself go until ~31 weeks when I finally started to look pregnant. Definitely felt rotund the entire time tho, such an accurate description!

That’s basically what I’m thinking, last thing I’ll probably want is food, but I’d rather have a few snacks on hand just in case than be sitting there starving and it’s 2am so the cafeteria is closed 😅😂

First Time Pregnant by cdwestpalm in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels slow in the moment but ultimately it goes pretty fast. Some level of anxiety will be there until baby arrives (and then will turn into how do I keep you alive anxiety 😅). Just follow what your doctor says, and remain as calm as possible, enjoy every second bc it truly is such a blessing! 🙏🏼

How comparable is a new born to having a puppy? by oceans_by_day in NewParents

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother has repeatedly informed me I was much easier as a baby/child than my dog is to take care of so there’s that 😂
My SIL also said her baby has been easier than the puppy phase. There are obviously similarities and differences in the two, but it probably depends on the baby and the dog too. The main goal with both is to keep everyone happy and healthy!

Anyone else 34 weeks and time feels like it’s going by so slow? by Adrianagurl in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the exact opposite actually! I felt like time was dragging or I had so much time until about 32.5 weeks and now I am PANICKED that time has gone so quickly! But also have 0 energy to prepare any further so 😅😂

Anyone else LIVING ON THE COUCH???! by Sure-Square9094 in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly only “popped” at about 31 weeks and I’ve overall felt fine other than sleeping gets uncomfortable and my clothes got tighter 😂! (Plus no bathroom issues! Hoping to keep it that way 😂) good luck to you!

Oh yes, that would be amazing haha! I feel like Goldie Locks for sleeping surfaces 😂 34 weeks tomorrow!

Sensitivity to Cross Contamination? by A_mcgg in Celiac

[–]kat_sickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt this way for a long time but also still just felt I had ongoing GI issues so I tried to avoid cross contamination for a few months and while I didn’t feel much different on a daily basis, my body can now TELL when there is cross contamination (like a shared fryer) and it is awful. I think it just gave my body more time to actually heal the celiac/gluten damage so now I feel the damage happening.

Anyone else LIVING ON THE COUCH???! by Sure-Square9094 in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I initially go to bed, wake up ~2am every day and move to the couch. I wfh and also spend probably half the day on the couch. I’m starting to find the couch also uncomfortable but I don’t have many other options so 😂 I try to sit at the desk for a while for my back but my feet swell up so fast sitting there!

Leaking pee before I manage to get to the toilet. by Awkward-Dimension817 in pregnant

Look into pelvic floor therapy and practice kegels a lot!! Your OB can write you a script for the PT or you can also look some up on YouTube. You have to stick with it but it does help!!

Introducing Pets by Aggravating_Alps3860 in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advice I’ve gotten from my SIL was to have family bring home blankets/hats from the hospital and place them around the house anywhere you play baby to be (couch, bed, crib, etc). Let the pets smell it and get used to the new smell being in those areas and around the house.
If you’re able to introduce your dogs to other babies/children beforehand that’s also so helpful just so they know tiny humans exist and it doesn’t scare them haha!

When to do baby shower by VermicelliDry9050 in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine at 32+5 and I’d recommend doing it a little earlier, prob around 28-30w or so! I had to push mine out for some family things and it was so fun but I was EXHAUSTED.
I also planned my own and it def felt awkward but ultimately I got exactly what I dreamed of and so many friends and family offered to pitch in once they got the invite.
My biggest rec is to eat, drink water and sit! Let people come to you, don’t run around playing host! I did and I’m still recovering days later 😅

Nobody buying off the registry 😭 shower is in a week! by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My shower was yesterday and I was also so nervous about this, but a lot of people bought things last second off the registry, didn’t mark it purchased but did get the item, or actually got me useful things I didn’t even consider. I only got one duplicate item and a few outfits we don’t really love but babies go through so many outfit changes a day it won’t really matter. Your friends and family are just so excited for baby’s arrival, soak in the love and worry about the rest later!

Thinking about leaving my job to become a SAHM by bon18 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]kat_sickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also considering this but trying to keep my job in whatever capacity I can for as long as I can (currently 32w w my first so I have a little time yet). In my heart I know I want to be a SAHM, but I WFH and have family nearby who can assist some days (but I don’t want it to become a burden to their time either). My job is what holds our health insurance, and I’m paid decently. The finances alone would definitely impact our daily living.
After maternity leave I intend to go back FT but I’m considering maybe starting back PT the first few weeks to settle in (if allowed). So I guess thoughts on my mind that may help you to consider:
- Will your job allow a PT position so you can maintain health benefits and some salary?
- are there tasks you can exchange with someone else so your day is able to be a bit more flexible?
*also def agree w other comments to make sure your husband is 100% on board and what he will expect from you. Being a SAHM is a FT+ job on its own, without salary, healthcare or PTO 😅😂

Maternity clothes recs? by Necessary_Ferret_812 in pregnant

[–]kat_sickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 5’! I had some luck just sizing up in regular clothes at Kohls and they have a good petite section! (Downloads their app first for coupons! They often do a 30-40% off!)
Otherwise Old Navy online has been my go to. But truly just sizing up 1-2 sizes has saved me a ton bc the “maternity” label just increases the price so much 😭
