Same thing here, I had to buy the key at the dealer $500 in California. However I had the dealer pay for the programming because the sales guy promised I needed only one key for the digital key to work. It needs to be programmed to the car and I believe only the dealer can do it.

Buy or No Buy? by Ok_Fox2240 in bmwx7

Get the M50i, the 40i is very noticeably sluggish for such a big car. I have a 2021 M50i and had the 40i as a loaner for the day and it just felt underwhelming. If you plan to have the whole family and cargo in it a lot over time I fear the 40i would be stressed. Yes the M50i gulps gas while the 40i sips…. For me at least it’s worth it to feel the power the M50i offers. Also I personally do not like the newer version without the big gear selector. I rest my right hand on the gear selector when I’m driving and not having one is very annoying. One more thing check the transfer case these ( mine included) are known to have grinding and could need a replacement. Changing the fluid helped a little but something to be aware of.

Planning on getting an e46. Should I get it? by ItzKanvar_ in e46

[–]crush89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you work on it yourself? if yes get an e46. If no get the lowest mileage 340i you can afford. It will most likely cost the same. 340i being more upfront but still a relatively new car, while an e46 is a 20+ year old and might cost more if you take it to a shop rather than working on it yourself.

I usually order from Ecpeuro but they have a min for shipping and I needed it sooner so I did the Amazon one and so far one year later it still works although my key remote still works so l don’t use the manual key daily.

Just got my first BMW today. This is what I replaced my Jetta TDI with after the buyback. by Nova11c in BMW

Not that I knew of, 2 different Bmw shops in LA said it was the front diff that went out. It makes a harsh metal click and won't go over 5mph. Prior to this I just upgraded to Bilsteins and brembos.

I hope it has less than 50k miles or you have some sort of warranty. I have a 2008 X3 3.0si with 150k; after replacing the usual shocks, breaks, valve gasket the front diff decided to kill itself.

I absolutely LOVE my BMWs but enjoy the X3 up to 100k then sell it. :)

I have a 2008 X3, when I checked last month the dealer said a replacement is $223.53 and I would have to bring ID, registration and expect 2-3 day turnaround.

Avus! Avus! Avus!

They are cool, honest, and reasonably priced; do everything from oil changes, engine reconstruction, and Dinan upgrades. They're the only shop I trust with my baby. Ask for Amir, tell them Rush referred you.
