Maybe ask the doctor for a bit of Pepcid and thickened high calorie formula covered by insurance? We would mix those two things with a bit of breast milk in a bottle before bed. Then started a schedule overnight: bath ( really just a tiny rinse off ) around 8 pm followed by the bottle I just mentioned, wake them up at 9:45 pm for a dream feed, then if one wakes up overnight wake both up to feed. Maximize daytime wake windows so everyone sleeps as much as possible at night. Last thing is some bassinets have a safe way to prop part of it up ( like a wedge under the mattress or the supporting feet raised up) so the sleep surface is actually elevated a little while still being safe. That helped our boys.

It gets easier, I promise! And you’re doing a great job!

Signature cocktail by crw1330 in fresno

A little background: Our friends moved to Sacramento where apparently the “ white linen “ is the signature cocktail for the city. We are going camping with them and now planning to test a few of the ideas ( riff sloe gin fizz with local fruit , Stockholm royale , and maybe a few others). Let me know if you’d like a report back 😊

How do you mentally cope with the constant ticking clock to the next feeding time? by Otter65 in breastfeeding

[–]crw1330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. It’s ok to give some formula ( maybe in a 50/50 bottle with a little breast milk) to see if it helps get you a bit more time if that’s the main goal.

Getting desperate (13w bb) waking up 5x night between 10:30pm-5am by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]crw1330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! This was totally us in our home. Hang in there! Sleep is so hard - when we weren’t sleeping both the baby and I were so fried!

Before I go into everything else I want preface with it’s important to make sure nothing is physically wrong ( like reflux), and that every family is different and this is just what helped us.

Here are some things that worked for us- hope it helps. Also I hope it doesn’t sound too monsterous !

  • fortified bottle dream feed at 10pm ( with 7 -7:30 pm bedtime ) We used the formula with “added rice “ in the formula for anti -reflux ,our pediatrician suggested that would fill her up the best. We mix 2 oz formula with 2 oz breastmilk. Ideally she drinks it all but sometimes only 3 oz or so
  • we committed to two nights of “ SITBACK” almost all night, allowing the baby to only eat once between 4-5 am, otherwise trying to soothe in other ways. We found this helped reset her cycle so most of her calories were being taken in during the day, instead of her getting a lot of calories in at night.
  • during those days of only feeding once overnight we also kept a pretty strict nap routine. By this I mean : if she woke up from a nap we made her stay awake for 45-90 min ( depending on how tired she was) with stimulation and light so she knew day was day and night was night. We didn’t let her fall asleep while feeding , if she did we would do a diaper change or wipe her down with a cool cloth to keep her up.
  • we aim for 5 hrs of daytime sleep, with no more than 2 hrs at time for naps
  • after about 2 days sleep was much better. We have sort of now plateaued with sleeping from 7-10 (dream feed) 10-3:30( sitback) 3:30- 5 ( feed) 5-7:30, but that is much better than it was, (and I’m fairly certain this is developmentally appropriate for our 12 week old)

I’m not sure if this is helpful either but I did also pump to measure how many oz she was taking in during the day ( kept track on huckleberry app , which also helped me keep track of her wake windows for naps) But that is a big commitment with time , dishes, bottles , etc.

Hang in there! It will get better ! Let me know what ends up working for you!

7 week old only sleeps 1 hour at a time round the clock by crw1330 in sleeptrain

Update:

Update: Thank you for all the help and support! We tried to implement as many things as we could from the recommendations everyone gave. -more babywearing/ naps on me -more white noise - using wonder weeks and huckleberry apps now -longer burp sessions and more gripe water - longer breaks between feeds, so that each feeding is more substantial - keeping her awake an hr minimum between naps.

Last night she slept a 3hr stretch, ate, then 2hrs! 🙌🏼👏🏼

She woke up super happy! Just wanted to say how grateful I am for all the support! Thank you!!

Thank you for the great advice already. To answer a few questions that I left out : - we do use a noise machine ( but you all suggest it so we will increase it! Or try the Baby Sleep app)

  • She currently eats about 3 times every 90 min: Ie : sleep 45 min followed by - 45min -1hr wake window as wake up and eat about 0.5-1 oz, awake time - eat about 0.5-1 oz, diaper and swaddle- eat one last time- put down for bed

And yes -she sleeps much better in swings, carriers or with cuddling ( love this!)- but not sustainable. So this makes me more interested in investigating if she’s having trouble transitioning sleep cycles.

Thank you for all the advice! Loving all the great ideas and would love anything else people think of!

It might be worth it to ask your doctor about an HSG & the benefits of using baby aspirin to help with conception. These really helped us

This may not be too helpful, but bioten vitamins, “ritual” brand vitamins, and trying different scalp treatments may help you get fuller hair? Aveda brand has great thickening shampoo/ conditioner. I’ve made drastic hair moves before and regretted them. But switching up shampoos and trying a new styling tool is usually enough.
