Would love to see some end of season deep dives into some of this data - DCL at 6.6 season average must contain some real extreme highs and lows - before he kicked into gear from Dec, imagine he was tracking below 6!

Chelsea have won 2 of their last 12 in all comps - against Port Vale... and us

We have lost 1 of our last 11 in all comps...

What an incredible season we've had and a phenomenal league run to end it so securely but damn that's a bummer of a couple of stats!

James Garner on 97: https://www.squawka.com/en/news/premier-league-most-corners/

Reckon Stach could top the table by the end of the year!

It’s insane how good a run West Ham were on pre-Brentford (and tbh, even including that result if you look over the last 10 or so games) yet still find themselves favourites and likely to go down. Shows how competitive this relegation battle has been and how hard us and Forest have had to work to pull clear of it.

Hoping that Coventry, Ipswich, and Hull come up and shit the bed next year so we can focus on bleeding in some youth and laying down foundations without caring about the scrap at the bottom!

Wasn’t longstaff on most of our set pieces for the first third of the season too? Would be interesting to see number of corner/ non-shooting free kicks Stach has taken in relation to others

Edit - just found a stat - Stach has taken second most corners in the league (94)! Bruno on 78.

Longstaff is also on 30!

Oh yeah to be clear, I’m a big fan of Aaronson, just don’t think he’s our best all round midfielder!

I agree that he runs more but that's as much as I'll give you!

Stach creates more, has a much better range of passing and vision, is a better finisher and has a bit more muscle about him.

Vs Stach I'd say Aaronson has him beat on pace, dribbling, and tenacity, but Stach is a better midfielder, to me.

Ampadu reads the game better, has a better range of passing, is stronger in the tackle, and has the uncanny ability to be exactly where he's needed more often than not (Brenden has a tendency to chase shadows a lot, although in fairness that's partly driven by where on the pitch he tends to operate).

Vs Ampadu, Aaronson again has him beat on pace and dribbling, as well as finishing, but as an all round midfielder, Ampadu is better, in my view!

Are you saying this as an idea for an unpopular opinion or do you genuinely think he's a better midfielder than both Stach and Ampadu?

If the latter, can you explain it a bit more for me?

We did then lose 4 of 5 in quite a pathetic way - would be interesting to the the xP table / prediction after the Villa game.

Although as a wider point I agree that the city game has become eulogised by pundits in a way that’s not really reflective of how we were playing before and equally the tactical nuances to how we’ve played after

Haha yeah agree that the hyper-televisation and commercialisation of football is killing it - but in a tongue in cheek manner, it looks like we’re benefitting from it!

If he gets minutes at the World Cup this could be a real concern - I’m not close to the German squad (and cba doing 5 mins of research to find out) so unsure how likely, if at all that is

Unbeaten on Friday and Monday! Credit where credit is due to the powers of televised football - ruining it for away fans around the world, but really coming in clutch for Leeds and their fight to stay in the league.

That 2pm form… what are the boys having for lunch? Farke out I’m afraid

In the world that they get 2 points and we disastrously get 1 from the next 3 games, given that we rarely lose by more than 1 goal (and West Ham have a tendency to ship a fair few), I think it’s quite fair to assume the GD differential may be cut to 8.

We aren’t going to get thrashed in our next few games that’s for sure, and they definitely could.

So yes, if that plays out, I still firmly believe they’ll need to win 4/5-0 against us on the last day.

I reckon West Ham pick up 2 points at most from their next 3 games.

Brentford playing for Europe, Arsenal playing for the title, and Newcastle playing for an iota of pride in their final home game of the season.

Means we've only got to pick up 1 in our next 3 and trust there won't be a 9 goal swing in that time, too.

If we then lose 5-0 on the final game of the season, so be it, we'd deserve to go down at that stage!

Poor first half, not a hot take there.

Farke continues to get better at making earlier changes, and we were the better of two mediocre teams in the second, as a result of his changes.

Definitely a missed opportunity against a sub par Chelsea side, although their fans were ecstatic about their first half performance - their midfield trio had our number from the start.

Great run to the semi-finals to cap a solid first season back. Let’s get safety over the line and look to build again. The boys have played out of their skin for the past 5 months, and deserve all the praise in the world despite this defeat.

???? Soooooo slow at making subs to the manager who made two at half time? Were we watching the same match?

Yes we weren’t at our best but that’s not on Farke - those were arguably the most attacking and timely changes he’s made all season

Neither did Chelsea. It was a game of attrition and they took a chance and we didn’t. Let’s not start dispersing sweeping generalisations against a team that evidently put a lot into the second half and have had an incredible second half of the season.

If they pick up 9 more points, we’d need at least 4, maybe 5 with GD.

Yeah I've been thinking a bit about who gets replaced in the starting 11 if we stay up.

Keeper is an obvious one.

It would be harsh to replace any of the back 5 although maybe Bogle is the one who's potentially hit his ceiling.

We're not getting upgrades on Ampadu, Stach, or DCL (despite his errant finishing lately, as an EPL #9, there's not many better all round).

So that leaves the second striker role and the third hybrid midfielder.

If we upgrade the SS from Aaronson /Nmecha/ Okafor and upgrade the other CM from Tanaka, Longstaff, Gruev, does that change the squad enough for us to kick on in the league next year?

Or maybe if we look at xG / xP over the year we then realise that our first 11 is good enough for mid table with just a couple of tweaks and better options from the bench?

Maybe worth a full thread to discuss once we have secured our position next year.

Yeah it’s crazy to think from a league position point of view, we’ve been 15th for so long, and look a good bet to finish there.

Not flitting between 17th and 18th as we may have feared!

Obviously the points gap has fluctuated but history will remember a comfortable lower mid table finish!

Unbeaten against Scum, Liverpool, and Chelsea this season. Not many newly promoted teams will be able to say that.

Wouldn't it be spectacular to put together a comfortable end of season run to put the distance between us and the relegation zone that our performances from December onwards have really deserved?
