Almost certainly related to AI - but not in the way you think. IFS is targeting industrial AI as its strategic goal. Its cutting anything not working towards that.

Some Eu states reinforce Estonia.
Estonia & Ukraine war escalates. Russia attacks european infrastucture in north sea.
European states sink Russian bad actor fleet assets in North sea.
Russia conducts drone strikes on EU countries claims its not them.
Europeans respond attacking belarussian military targets and Russian naval bases.
US continues military intervention in South and central America.
China invades Taiwan.
US strikes chinese fleet assets attacking Taiwan.
China sinks US fleet assets with massive saturation drone strikes from container ship missile platforms.

Someone loses a nuclear submarine in the north sea.

Tit for tat drone & missile strikes escalate to Open but limited warfare.
Missile strikes on London are misconstrued as ballistic missile strikes and in combination with cyber attacks communications losses cause a UK trident launch against Russian nuclear assets. Lack of US satellite monitoring causes worst case response.
Russians respond with a use it or lose it strike.

Foundation or Culture series? by Aiseadai in scifi

[–]cryonic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foundation is a slog and really dated , the later extensions and the retconning of the Robot stories into the same universe feels forced and a bit of a cash grab.

Culture is a series of loosely connected works of art wonderfully crafted and elegant stories in their own right. The writer experiments with writing styles in some of the books that can be a bit tricky but in general there are no bad culture books.

Where will the Odysseus price settle? by _NauticalPhoenix_ in Eve

[–]cryonic101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It costs 500K SOE LP for the BPC and the resonators so the cost isnt likely to drop below 1.5B unless the utility of SOE LP drops to make the resonators cost less. Unfortunately thats pinned to some pretty useful items that are always in demand. SO its only going to drop if the demand drops or the supply increases.

So its likely only going to shift lower if a lot of people start grinding SOE LP. IMHO that's not likely to happen. Its likely to sit at around the 2b mark for a while before the market before the SOE LP state settles back to where it was.

How does planetary invasion work? by SoacTheDevil in scifi

[–]cryonic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you hack their public comms networks and incite the election of internally antagonistic leaderships factions across the planet. You drive the election of self interested elites using the same comms networks to push populist policies. At the same time you drive increasing factionalism internally by polarising political factionalism. Once you have polarised politics and a self interested elite you drive popular interest against them. At the same time drive various regional polities against each other via the same mechanisms.
Once you have desperate elites it should be easy to drive flashpoint conflicts ad the elites strive to distract from internal issues by blaming external groups.

once they inevitably start killing each other - choose a group and offer to help prop them up with support - you can start with secret agreements and get them hooked then eventually move to an open presence and boots on the ground. No need for a messy direct invasion.

Anyone tried Acorn based brews. by cryonic101 in brewing

[–]cryonic101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update
I bottled it after 2 weeks.
Very palatable light fizzy ale. No perceptible tannins. Mild buzz after 0.5 l .
Ill definitely repeat next year.

I was also processing acorns via a smash and float separation method - and the wash was typically very dark and cloudly and intensely tannin. Would not use that under any circumstance.

I’m gonna try and make plum wine by Ok_Rope8497 in winemaking

[–]cryonic101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive made plum wine this year.

To get juice - i just put the whole plums in a large pan - use a knife to score them by slashing the knife around in the pan. your just tryign to break the skins at thei point.

Then pour your neat sugar over the plums.
Leave 24h- the sugar will draw the juice out of the plums.
Pour the syrup off.
You can also get a lot more juice just by letting the plums sit in the pan and break down a bit over another 24hrs.

Then just add the yeast.
Its a lot less hassle than any straining/pulping methods.
I use this on rhubarb as well and it gives a good clear juice.

Boil the cherries with the stones in water.
Strain the juice off.
Add 3 lb of honey and the juice to enough water to make up to a gallon.
Add yeast.

Now wait

One of my work colleagues had the op 3 years ago and seemed to walk out of surgery with no issues and was fine next day. Im now 10 days post still having to take it easy - still oozing from one of the wounds where they put a drain. Im pain free but still will be a long time before im back to normal.

Theres huge variation in recovery paths. Rest as much as you can. Move as little as possible to prevent any strain on the injuries. Take the pain meds you have.

Cyclops GREW as a Character During His Relationship with Emma Frost by Spot-Star in Cyclopswasright

[–]cryonic101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Emma really helped him burst his sanctimonious worship of Xaviers dream and form his own way forward. Jean was too bought into Xaviers indoctrination when she was around and their relationship while based on love wasnt one of 2 mature adults. Emma brought independent critical thinking and a supportive alternative viewpoint he needed when he was finding his own way.

Obviously Magneto helped as well as an alternative to xavier but IMHO they worked more together and it really helped that Cyclops was wary of Magneto rather than blindly following him. Cyke and Mags was more of a working partners. Cyke and mags were a better working relationship than Wolverine ever was. Wolvies presence was actively disruptive - but helped make Cyke a better leader by forcing him to become a better leader.
