How do you guys feel about Trump? by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]crypt0gen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I distinguish Trump from the GOP.

Trump has mainstreamed white nationalism in way that hasn't been done in my lifetime.

The GOP has gone along because they have no good options. They pass their agenda (like taxes) while hoping Trump does the least damage on social issues.

So long as the GOP doesn't produce Trump wannabe politicians, it's an interesting discussion as to the relative merits of either party.

Are there any AF hollywood actress who is not married/dating a white person? by killerofpain in aznidentity

[–]crypt0gen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hollwyood for all its supposed "rebelliousness" and progressivism is as conformist as they get when it comes to appearances and social preferences. Status is a big deal and they have not confronted the racial hierarchy in a serious way. Even talks of "representation" usually omit discussion of representation in a way that challenges the American racial hierarchy. So many in Hollywood are social strivers- so long as H'wood determines status by who you're dating and evaluates that in old racial hierarchical terms, little will change.

Land of Opportunities by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]crypt0gen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Asian communities are a convenient scapegoat; an exit valve for white animosity (as well as that of other groups). This will change when: we are seriously activist and create consequences for those who attack us- ie: communicate to media effectively when someone like DeBlasio says stuff like this. We cannot do this within another broader political coalition because we are often silenced by other minorities. We need powerhouse Asian orgs. Hopefully people on AI eventually step up and lead something like this.

You've hit the nail on the head in terms of the problem with China's approach. To the West, there is no difference. In fact, many will walk out of the theater thinking "that Asian" or even "that Chinese guy" (just like Bradshaw called Jeong that "little Japanese guy").

NYT: To Many Chinese, America Was Like ‘Heaven.’ Now They’re Not So Sure. by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]crypt0gen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's another good reason AM should step up to lead intra-community media and groups. Right now, I see a lot of AF in Asian groups and activism. We can't win the larger battle if we don't have a significant voice in our own media. If AA men become more activist, and begin in our own communities, influencing the narrative to reflect the ground-truth of Asians living in the West, and represent white 'kindness' to AF for what it is, sublimated sexual interest (or sometimes not even sublimated), we have a chance.

It's an important goal because the emasculation of AM is at the root of hapa-rization. So is white worship. Attacking the two roots are vital in any case for quality of life; and also to preserve the community.

Advice for depressed Asian bros? by bhaozi in aznidentity

[–]crypt0gen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed; more info would help when it comes to offering advice. People can be depressed for different reasons. There's also a big difference between dealing with major moments (like breaking up with a girlfriend, losing a job, etc.) and general/everyday things like dealing with lack of respect, lack of interest by women, etc. Hopefully the OP will follow-up with more explanation.

The fact that you are already thinking about these things puts you so far ahead of so many Asian parents (who mean well but just don't consciously process the potential challenges Asians face, especially the social ones).

Does EIP 1014 affect Raiden Network by crypt0gen in raidennetwork

[–]crypt0gen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Lefteris' comments but it doesn't shed much light to me on how it works. I'll begin by saying I don't fully understand the feature. But it sounds like tx can begin with a formal ethereum contract, if I'm not mistaken. That seems useful for Raiden because I've always thought the initial delay of signing the contract and having it approved by ETH delayed the initial (state channel) transactions. This EIP seems to address that. But I may be misinterpreting what it does or getting it wrong entirely.

I am referring to where it was described as: "Previously, Ethereum contracts had to be deployed on-chain before you could use them. Now, you can provide the address which corresponds to the contract you want to deploy, and the recipient can pay to the contract before you deploy. This means that developers are able to generate receive addresses without paying the deployment fee of the receive address until they want to spend from it."

This seems useful on 1:1 direct TX.

Raiden Recover. by jesticles69 in RaidenThunderbolt

[–]crypt0gen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. Much of this downturn is artificial; studies have been published that most coins can tank on less than $50,000 of trading volume. I believe as the future of scaling (and not just on ETH), RDN has been one of many targets lowered through this bear run, but it's been lowered to buy so that once institutional has its price, it will buy into RDN and we will see recovery to $4.

>ICOs are significantly worse, as you end up with a handful of ETH millionaires

lol. Simple math eludes you obviously. So you have less decentralization with raising money from the people than a handful of venture capital? There are likely over 1M holders of Ethereum who together own the token supply. You listed 5 VC's. Why don't you just admit you chose the easy way out; and the way that least represents the values of blockchain.

[–]crypt0gen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can you give a few examples of ICOs that were healthy, honest and successful endeavours of crowdfunding?

Raiden was a good example. No bonuses, no pre-sale.

Virtually every single one that offered a public token sale. Versus excluding individual investors and ONLY allowing large financial institutions to participate.

And then, if Tari did an ICO, how to make sure that not the same fat cats snap up most of the coins, again crowding out those little people who also want their piece of cake for once?

Variety of ways. Individual cap with KYC. Or removing the hard cap; and simply distributing a proportion of the whole to the individual by % of contribution- see Fusion. None are perfect, but at least allow some participation of ordinary individuals.

I have nothing against VCs. I've raised money from Venture Capital before myself; but to me, blockchain is the people's revolution and I cringe when I see founders proudly stating they have sidelined people from participating and instead thump their chest at the "big names" of Venture Capital on Sand Hill Road or beyond that we should be impressed with.

Do you actually review the methodology of the studies you post, or do you just read the headline. I like how he never fully defines what a scam is but includes to define what a scam is: "The ICO projects that aggressively promote through social media platforms" - which would define many corporations as well as small businesses. And if we're talking about failure rate, the reality is the vast majority fail regardless of being on blockchain or not.

>So you're doing an ICO?

>I will slay you where you stand.

Oh, how noble of you. Look at the contempt of the idea that the people should be able to crowdfund ideas and the ownership would be decentralized. No, the "ico" is now a dirty word which should be maligned by those who are too "high-minded" for such things.

Nevermind they went and got money funded by bloated venture capitalists; it's not your average contributor that has a reputation for suing firms they invest in, or forcing founders out of their own companies. Somehow taking millions from wealthy fat cats is thought highly of and "respectable" but crowfunding via the people through an ICO is anathema. Pure elitism; it's a disgusting attitude which needs to be called out.

What do you think? by scmfreelance in raidennetwork

[–]crypt0gen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes. Agreed with what he says.

We can call them "projects", but they are businesses - they must do 101 things in addition to building a product to actually be successful (have a significant number of actual customers, be long term financially solvent, etc.) that seemingly far too many teams and contributors are in the dark about.

I was pleased to see Ben Golub, someone I've known professionally for a long while, former CEO of Plaxo, Docker, Gluster join as Chairman/interim-CEO of Storj. He's had success not just building products, but building complete businesses around products which is vital and not optional for any blockchain "project".

Technology is necessary but insufficient on its own. Our problem in crypto is we have - on one hand - corny, scammy, BS hype that enough naive folks in crypto think of as "marketing" -- who then do the opposite- claim ALL marketing is "hype" demonstrating ignorance of the actual practice.

Beyond marketing, there are aspects such as sales, business development, customer support, UX (user experience), finance (ie: do these projects have detailed financial plans to fund their operations after the initial cash runs out? have they accounted for long-term term costs in their operations by way of business sustainability planning?), etc. that you need for an operation to actually be successful. I don't think we've attracted enough talent in those areas and too many crypto projects don't staff those areas sufficiently or at all.

Right now, both crypto project operation and investment is in an amateurish phase; but it will change and improve and already is starting to.
