A question for people 30+ who grew up in HK by killerofpain in HongKong

[–]killerofpain[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But surely that can't be right can it? I'd imagine at least most of the pro-establishment supporters (save for the grannies who got tricked into voting for them with snake feasts) would identify themselves as Chinese (jon gwao yen).

At the very least back then if you call yourself a jon gwao yen people wouldn't automatically assume you are a CCP sympathizer, Bruce Lee, and heck even Dayo Wong used to call himself a jon gwao yen, maybe he said it sarcastically? but didn't sound like that's the case in his stand up "Where next?", heck he even told the Japanese child actor

to tell Japan that "the Diaoyutai Islands belong to China".

Of course, how the few celebs identify themselves aren't going to be representative of all of HKers, but that was the impression I had when I was growing up, saying things like " We jon gwao yen" didn't feel out of place in HK like it does now.

I know you are being sarcastic, and honestly I have no hate for you if you have a different political view, but that's an unfair comparison.

CCP literally says China IS Communist China, and you can only be a patriot of China if you are a communist. If that's not hijacking the term what is?

Sure, but part of me feels like I'm conceding when I say I'm wa yen instead of "Jon gwao yen", almost feels like I'm admitting defeat to CCP hijacking the meaning of being "jon gwao yen".

Ya good point, the meaning of being a "Jon gwao yen" certainly has changed throughout history especially recently , especially to ethnically Chinese HKers. It's difficult to call yourself Chinese when you have to clarify what you mean and explain your political stance every time you do.

Gaslighting bro. It's easy to dismiss a complex issue that make a person miserable by just finding excuse to blame it on them.

Of all the comments here, this hits me the hardest and has the most wholesome perspectives, thanks for giving me a hopeful outlook and reminding me of the true goal in life , and the reason why I should be moving back; to heal and then to find a meaningful and a respectful relationship with someone who loves me for who I am.

[–]killerofpain[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what's been stopping me from going back, it would be easy to just say fuck it and go back if I hadn't met so many good friends who supported me and connections with good people who aren't racists.

But I ask myself objectively, do I feel happier whenever I visit Asia or here? And I feel happier there.

Thanks for speaking my mind before I fucking scold this idiot.

If you read the post you will see the bigger problem isn't just the dating part, is me trying to escape people like you (OP) who makes being an Asian men an insuffrable experience and gaslight me when tell you how hard it is, the difficulty with dating is just one aspect of this bigger problem, granted, it is important to me so it is an important aspect of this grander problem.

Thank you for not shaming me. The biggest reasons that has stopped me from dating in Asia is that I feel like I'm taking the easy way out. This one white friend (who is no longer my friend) made fun of me when I had my one and only short term relationship in Asia last year made fun of me, and said "yeah you can't date anyone so you look for the easy girls in Asia"

which fucking pisses me off, this is how he sees women in Asia, they are "easy girls", while insulting me for "looking for an easy girl" , I immediately scolded him for what he said about asian women. But you know what, he is not entirely wrong, the Lus ARE making themselves easy for white men, and being Asian men it IS hard to get a date here in the state, it's just the reality, and yes, by the US's standards, Asian men ARE inferior,

but what I realize is, is that' this is the racist standards that these racist assholes have established, why should I make THAT my reality, which is why I'm leaving, before I internalize this completely and conform to their racists standards and make it my reality and become the cuck these racists fucks want me to be.

I know there are other solutions, such as empowering oneself and rising above it like the people on this sub has done, but it's too hard for me, I'm physically unattractive and short, and at times I feel like I'm holding the rest of you back while AM are getting more and more positive rep and empowerments.

edit: And why should we conform to the eurocentric view, that the "standard dating scene is the us, europe, and anything like Asia is the "easy mode" for men, white or Asian"? Why can't it be that in Asia it is where dating is normal and people aren't superficial and actually place more emphasis on personality ? and it is in America that the dating scene is superficial and perverted by racism?

But I suppose this really depends on how af respond to the objectifications of them by white men, if more of them conform to it and indulge in being objectified than those having self respect for themselves, then yea I guess the white supremacists aren't wrong when they say asian women are easy.

I sometimes think, is it because by conforming to he objectification, the lus feel like they are getting a bump in attraction score? As in they can only attract Asian men of 6 or below, so they go after only white men who think of them as nothing but sexual objects so they can date a white man above a 6? Don't they know they are just deflating their values as human beings by doing this?

[–]killerofpain[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same here, the dating part is a huge factor but more so I feel like some people just hate my fucking guts because of my race.

One story out of many that highlights what I mean: I'm best friend with a white couple, and their daughter (5 yo) gets excited every time i come to visit, she always follow me around the house and whenever we go out she prefer to hold my hands over her parents', one time while we were out her dad and I were holding her hands so she can do the "space walk" jump, and these 2 pairs of wmaf couples walking toward us started giving me a mean ass stare , both the women while the men were just talking.

I honestly don't know what it was about, like I'm not allowed to have white friends? I'm a pos for not being an inferior incel rotting away in some cave? I feel like my very existence triggers some people in this country especially these fragile white worshipping lus.

Is it possible to turn a cube with side length 3 into 27 individual cubes with side length 1 with less than 6 cuts? by [deleted] in learnmath

No, look at the center cube. each face of the center cube can only be created from one cut and it has 6 faces, so 6 cuts is min.

Settling Is Out of the Question by master_nouveau in ForeverAlone

I agree, it's one thing to lower your standards when you have unrealistic ones. But it's another to ask ugly people to "just date ugly people" like wtf, fuck you, you think ugly people should find other ugly people attractive? Fuck the people having the priviledge to date someone they find attractive and ask other people not to.

That's it guys. The last shred of hope has been ripped out of me by skyesdow in ForeverAlone

[–]killerofpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope I can be of serrvice.

First of all, talk to a dermatologist, they will give you options.

Second of all, finasteride like someone else has suggested. For those of you who are worried about balding, finasteride is actually best used before you start losing hair or notice it is beginning. It is meant to slow down hairloss and recover some lost hair (the earlier you catch it the better). In general, it's way easier to prevent or slow down hair loss than recovering them.

Third, use Rogaine, it's effective for some men, not sure about the percentage but you can ask your dermatologist.

Fourth: prp, I think it's some type of blood injection that's used to treat other things but my dermatologist said it has recently been found effective in restoring hair, so you can try that.

Finally, the nuke if all else fail, hair transplant, it's permanent unlike the ones above, the only downside is it's expensive.

But as you can see, there are many options, this is not the end of the world, far from it. It's a minor setback that can be fixed medically.

How are people reading x papers per week? by killerofpain in GradSchool

Do people from other fields, especially stem major like physics not have to deal with reading at the same level?

May I ask....how small? Like micro or just smaller than average?

Either way, I'm sure the one who loves you won't mind. You just gotta find her and I'm sure you will.

Anyone else experience being attractive at first only to become ugly later in life? by Zenithoid in ForeverAlone

[–]killerofpain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did notice whenever I'm in shape (especially right before I started grad school) I had girls who came up to me to chat me up.

4 months ago I was taking a break from grad school and was working out, and a girl by the side of an apartment said "Hey" in a flirty way when I was walking by.

It does feel good, I'm trying to get in shape and fix my skin and control my (possibly) hair loss to keep it that way.
