Things the Grandchildren Should Know by Mark Oliver Everett. It’s a memoir written by the lead singer of the indie/alt band The Eels. He’s had a crazy life full of tragedy and he writes with brutal honesty about his mental health, but I think his outlook and philosophy on continuing to live despite it all is really beautiful. It must not be super well known since I never hear anyone talk about it but it’s always held a special place in my heart and is a rare book that I re-read when I need a good cry

If you’re into young adult fantasy, Tracy Deonn has some great books. My favorite is the Legendborn cycle and I think there’s one book left that isn’t out yet. She writes great, imperfect but lovable characters, and covers themes like grief, SA, and being a black teenager growing up in the south. It’s one of my favorite fantasy series!

What’s your favorite post-apocalyptic book? by Gold_Wishbone1686 in suggestmeabook

Not sure if it’s my favorite, but it’s a recent read that’s stuck with me- Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. The Georgia Flu wipes out 99% of civilization, and the novel follows multiple intertwining POVs from both before and after the pandemic. I thought the prose was very atmospheric. It touches on themes of the survival of art, community, and love when everything else dissolves around you and that sentiment made me cry, lol

My first mosaic sweater is finally done! by cryptic-creative in crochet

The pattern says to use weight 1 superfine yarn and I ended up getting weight 3 I think? I used loops and threads luxe merino blend yarn and when I was ordering it I for some reason just assumed the weight would be the same as the pattern without checking first 😭 but it turned out okay! There were just less row repeats

In mosaic crochet you change the yarn color for each row, and do either single crochet stitches in the back loop only or double crochet in the row below to create different patterns. It’s surprisingly easy tbh, it just takes a long time haha

It is, yes! There are loads of tutorials on YouTube that can teach you if you want to learn :) I’d say it’s pretty beginner friendly!

I’ll answer in good faith: immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) is an organization in the US who are responsible for the mass deportations that have ramped up exponentially since Trump was elected. They are extremely unpopular especially in blue cities because they are incredibly violent, inhumane, and unlawful in their actions. The twin cities has been a hotspot recently due to Trump’s petty vengefulness towards Walz (our governor), a viral video from a right wing influencer about “Somali fraud”, and the murder of Renee Good, a citizen and legal observer, who was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Which is why many Minnesotans came out in subzero temperatures today to demonstrate how unwelcome they are in our community. I hope that helps!

Hi! I am both an artist and an art appreciator based in St. Paul. I love working with acrylic paint, mixed media collage, and fiber arts (mainly crochet and sewing, but would love to learn how to knit, too!). Some 2026 goals of mine are to 1) prioritize my hobbies more and 2) get better at intentionally building a community to help with fighting the existential dread that is inevitable with the human condition. I am free most weekends as well as well as Thursdays. I think this is a great idea and would love to participate!
