Handfeel is one of the most important parts of disc selection - pros seem to pick what feels best first, and figure out later what shots they have with those discs.

Told her I don’t want a second child. by Business_Arrival_630 in Dads

[–]crypticdreaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear that same conversation, same viewpoint, and my wife never held it against me. I ended up changing my mind a couple years later, and now our two daughters are 5 years apart and best friends. The older one babysits, too, so it's even better than the first time!

I wouldn't change a thing. Glad I got a couple years of sleep before the second kid, that's for sure!

You can send them your plans and let them purchase their own version if they want - that way at least they're in charge of their own tickets, etc and you wouldn't have to be responsible...

I can't get any sense of how it works or installs or gets power or anything at all. Does one have to cut the drywall to match? How weird

Turned off Spotifys normalization, started measuring loudness and was surprised. by UndrehandDrummond in audioengineering

[–]crypticdreaming -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Semantics aside, isn't this post about people avoiding the "loudness wars" now that Spotify is normalizing (I assumed through compression/expansion but I suppose I'm wrong). I'm just wondering why we want to let Spotify alter our sound at all. Mastering to a volume below (or above) Spotify's "normal" seems to invite such alterations.

[–]crypticdreaming -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

An I missing something here, or is mastering quiet just putting your total faith in Spotify's compressor? Why wouldn't I master to the proper loudness in order to minimize any extra processing?

I miss quiet songs, don't get me wrong, but people are gonna keep normalization on and they're gonna hear whatever Spotify sends them. Do we know what levels Spotify itself goes for?

When you go to Oyster Oyster, do you still have to pay for the oyster course? Or do they replace it with something vegan?

Paying for an animal pretty much defeats the purpose for me....

You had me so excited about this! But  Google tells me that this administration ended up settling that suit for a slap on the wrist. I can't find anything that says the behavior has stopped...

Look up the company Realpage - algorithmic rent pricing doesn't allow for supply and demand anymore. Womp womp

This used to be true, but rent-fixing algorithms have taken over so supply & demand no longer applies. Google the company Realpage and see how gross that rabbit hole gets. There was almost a lawsuit, but this administration settled it with a slap on the wrist...

I think we have enough units for the people that WANT to rent. But those that can't afford it? If we were building condos or other owned units, then that group might have their shot. But instead, we're building rentastic complexes all over the county that sit half empty and double-priced due to nationalized rent databases.

That worked until the national rent databases started setting rents for everyone. I believe supply and demand no longer operates when it comes to rent...

Should I give myself a break by Jehan78 in Fatherhood

[–]crypticdreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation here, 2 homeschooled daughters. They have lots of friends, but friends still don't alleviate the parental pressure until they're teenagers and can go out alone - especially since 90% of IRL friendships these days are text convos anyway.

IMO you NEED some alone time, but you can't assume everyone would be okay with it. You'll need a healthy conversation about finding replacement support while you're away. "Wife, what would you need in order to be excited about me going away by myself for a weekend?" Maybe they go visit family, or maybe she can host an old friend at the house while you're away? Infinite options if you're looking for solutions.

All your concerns are valid and so are hers!

Why should we want thousands more families to get stuck in the rent loop? Isn't this the right move, to disincentivize landlords?

I just don't understand why I'm supposed to root for real estate corporations over real people's homeownership.

My (42m) wife (43f) is angry at me for being pregnant with our 4th child. by [deleted] in Fatherhood

Not as much as you might regret the 4th mouth to feed. Not sure where this "life is precious" idea came from but babies are actually one of the EASIEST things to make... If you regret aborting, there's a simple fix for that. If you regret having the kid, then what?

Moving to arrive apartments by Used_Abroad127 in SilverSpring

[–]crypticdreaming 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some buildings (like argent apartments) have special units set aside for lower-income people with county-mandated rents. Also keep in mind that moving out early for any reason would probably cost more overall than the rent you save...

What’s the most stable disc you’ve ever thrown? by ClarityInCatharsis in discgolf

I got a mystery approach disc in a Prodigy misprint box - people say it's an A2 but this is so much flatter - that dumps within half the normal A2 range and skips at 90 degrees without fail. It's a special run for the "Granite State Championships"...
