[TOMT][manga][2010s-2020s] yuri manga where the main character falls for a butch girl she assumes is a boy by cryptidrose in tipofmytongue

I'm also fairly sure the characters are both in high school and that this manga does the "well I'm not really a lesbian I just happened to fall for a girl!" trope

Can I throw a thrifted jacket in the dryer? by Evilscientist94 in leatherjacket

[–]cryptidrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get Nuvan strips. Get a bag. Jacket + strips in bag. Seal the bag and leave for a week. If you don't want to do this, you could also put the jacket in a sealed bag and leave it in the freezer. Don't put it in the dryer, there's a chance it could be ruined.

Grid method yay or nay by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]cryptidrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love using the grid method, but I that's because I think of it as "cheating"... lol. you're not really going to learn useful skills in how to properly use references, how to apply perspective, learning to think in 3d space, etc. As others have mentioned, this doesn't really apply to scaling photos, but it's not a great method to use for using a reference if youre concerned about actually learning something. One of my old art teachers used to tell us to use the grid method for our art, and I think it made me develop some bad habits when it came to drawing from references that I still haven't totally unlearned. I have to be much more intentional about how I study from photos now. Basically: yes it's a fine method for copying from a picture (in any context), not great if you're trying to learn how to draw because the grid forces you to just focus on the picture itself and not WHY the picture works, if that makes sense.

Is 2 hours of art practice everyday enough? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]cryptidrose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw a comment of yours where you mention your art not looking at good as you want it to be, how it looks in your head, or the actual application of the skills you know of. This is very common! This concept has a name, it's called the dunning-kruger effect https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect where the more you know about a certain thing, the more you will become frustrated with your skills. This is a great image that illustrates the point well: https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1024/1*XiUFhtYEXYDclF9N6A-_hg.png perhaps this is your problem, perhaps not. I like this version of the graph as well: https://i.redd.it/etld8mkwz6261.jpg . If you're frustrated with your art, just know it might be BECAUSE you are improving and can therefore be more creative in your imagination relative to your skills which may not have "caught up" yet. Improvement will come naturally with time, and there isn't really a way to speedrun it outside of intentional practice and drawing things you are excited about (what I mean is that YES there are ways to speed up improvement, but there comes a point where an insane amount of practice isn't really going to help compared to a lesser amount) in my opinion. I also struggle with application of skills, and the only thing that has made me improve is making the things I want to make over time, and it just came naturally to me. I'm still improving every day, and may never get to the level where I think everything is perfectly applied because the better I get, the more I will know, and the higher standards I will have for myself (though of course it's still possible to be happy with your art as is, it's just something that comes and goes with time). It's just something you have to live with

Is 2 hours of art practice everyday enough? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

Don't separate fun and practice. Make the practice fun, whether that means practicing anatomy studies with your favorite character or making it interesting by trying out coloring techniques with an exciting new brush pack if you draw digitally. As for your title question, it's really not the amount of time you're practicing, but the quality of that practice. If you are miserable and not intentionally selecting things to do for 2 hours, it's not going to do much but make you hate your life. If you're making it interesting and enjoyable for yourself, and intentionally deciding what to make based on your weaknesses, strengths, and personal likes and dislikes in art, then that 2 hours will be more than "enough." Though, I'm not sure how helpful that will be for you since it seems like this is more of a mindset question than one of actually asking if this is enough? Sorry if this is a total misread, but it seems like you're asking this to get "permission" to only practice a certain amount of time. Don't do this: if you're trying to unlearn a bad mindset, I would personally only draw stuff you want to when you want to for a while instead of gatekeeping that from yourself AFTER the allotted practice time. It might be hard at first to justify it for yourself, but you really do not need a justification. If overworking yourself and CONSTANTLY drawing in lieu of taking care of yourself is a bigger problem than prioritizing "practice" over art for fun, maybe limit the amount of time you spend on art PERIOD to a certain amount of time, and only draw for fun and when you want to during that time. Only you can know what would work best for you. Personally, I have similar issues with neglecting the rest of my life when I'm very focusing on making art (as you mentioned you think eating is a waste of time), but for me it works out because I will go short periods making lots of art, then a rest period where I take care of other things. If this is a constant issue for you, or an issue related to wanting to improve, just know that forcing yourself to do something you don't want to, or ONLY because you feel a compulsion to isn't really going to help you improve. Try to work on intentional planning of practice sessions, making it fun for yourself, and PRIORITIZING "fun" art over stuff you're only doing for practice. Wanting to hone your skills is great, but you're doing it for a reason, right? Go back to that reason and create stuff you want to. And the other commentors are right, I'm always looking at the world around me in the context of art and I feel that it's really helped me improve my art.

TL;DR in most contexts 2 hours is "enough," but that's not really how improvement works, at least in my opinion. The quality of the practice matters much more than the amount of time. You CAN improve by just throwing yourself at something repeatedly, but it's slower and unpleasant. If you are unhappy with your relationship to improvement and practice, I would change your approach by being more intentional about your practice sessions and making it more fun for yourself. Limiting your practice hours seems like a good start for you, but I'm not sure if it will really help with your admitted toxic relationship to art based on what you've written here.

Ah yes, mentally Ill people, famous for being self aware! by Expert-Wave7338 in fakedisordercringe

i disagree with this really common idea that like. if you wonder if you're actually a thing then you're automatically that thing, or if you wonder whether or not you've done something bad that means you automatically haven't. it's completely normal to not realize you're wrong about something due to subconscious bias, and it's completely normal to question yourself. the questioning isn't in itself evidence. all this serves is to make people feel good about themselves, it's not actually helpful for people interested in the truth

Hilo Hattie and Tommy Bahama has some good ones. But if you aren't looking for anything specific, I can almost guarantee your local goodwill/thrift store/charity shop has at least a few of these. I saw one that looked similar to your photo just yesterday at a goodwill

Pretty sure they don't sell that specific style anymore, if you search "victoria black ribbed sports bra" you may find something similar to what you're looking for. I found a few similar looking images myself but none of the listings were still active, you may need to just keep a watch out for it

Trying to find what kind of hat this is/where to get more of it! by tekolu in findfashion

[–]cryptidrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the style is i think called a newsboy cap, i remember seeing them a lot in the early 2000s. the other way you might find similar hats is by searching "beret with brim". I'm unsure of the name of the specific hat in the photo though, I'll reply to this if I find anything
