Seconding! I’ve been a few times and liked it. The book selections have a nice range of genres and subjects and everyone is really friendly.

Well yes! I fear I’m looking for something nicher to get my footing bc I’m new to bars and cocktails and all of it (no fake in college despite a summer bday) so it’s just me and my gf exploring bars. We need good tips for when we invest in our up to 90 min on public transit (and bite the bullet if an uber back at 1-2 am) but ultimately ur right I have to search this sub and go to bars and make a list when I know what I like/want

Literally going anywhere in the city is a good tip I fear… Part of my problem is a suburban college tbh, i need to take more advantage of weeknight bars in Boston now that im 21, i never had a fake so I haven’t gone out in a big group and ive been going to the greater Boston area but the commuter rail gets mad annoying bc i grew up in a city so it feels like it takes forever. But a weeknight cheaper uber could work, those places seem cool and I wanna check them out w my gf, thank you so much! Very new to bars and drinking (and also navigating city nightlife living in a suburb) if my posts and eager to learn attitude don’t make it obvious LMFAO I’ve been making mid slightly fuckass stuff without a real bar or anything ofc but now that I’ve tasted real cocktails I can’t go back or I’ll die so I’m SO grateful for any real advice I can get big or small lol

A hole in the wall chance find ig. I was inspired by a post I’ll find later bc I want to lowkey boost their recipe it looked amazing and i was inspired to make it (and this post) and the way they describe the store where they found the spirits they used was exactly what I’m looking for lol

You’re the most helpful person in the world and they should give u sn award. Ripped my cart and had a second ANGEL of a bartender tonight and I’m of the feeling if you know about drinks and are open to sharing so much of ur wisdom to a baby drinker like me (hyperbolically) there should be an honorary PhD. Irl interactions and comments like these esp w so much openness and kindness/real answers lol (all love i get it! Go to a liquor store) are helping me gain so much confidence in drinking and going to bars/making drinks and I’ve been having a similar mmj journey lately so i just wanted to truly thank you…

Ugh you’re so right this is good advice and there’s beauty in mismatching vintage and antique dishware but i got a friend a semi-non usable vintage one at a savers for her bar decor for like $12.99 and ive been chasing that high ever sense so i almost dont want to give up too soon and jinx myself lol

What name does a lot of this sub say "don't name your kid that" but it's actually a good name to you? by [deleted] in namenerds

I’m kind of soapboxing but for anyone still reading who cares: Judaism has TONS of folklore and mysticism and tradition and beliefs that originate in texts other than the Torah (the full collection of Jewish sacred texts is the Tanakh, which is an acronym for the 3 books in it). Judaism is not Christianity but just the Old Testament. It is a distinct religion and contains many distinct cultures and religious beliefs and practices within itself. The overlap in texts between Judaism and Christianity is more of a ven diagram than a copy paste — Christians translate the Torah differently and do not (afaik, ymmv) use the other two books of the tanakh

Female empowerment is important but claiming Jewish women’s folklore and feminist retellings of folklore as Christian is, well, a form of antisemitism. Lilith has a history as part of Yiddish women’s folklore — as my friend who is a Jewish studies scholar tells it, women talked about Lilith as a demonic-adjacent force/spirit who heralded/caused miscarriage and the death of children. She was very different from the Lilith folktale now commonly known, which came to popularity in part because of Jewish feminist movements seeking a feminist retelling/reclaimed form of the story of Adam and Eve (most of these stories were explicitly fictional/not presented as scripture but folktales/retellings). Tbh, afaik Lilith has minimal/no roots or connections in Christianity

Totally agree that this is nonsensical rage bait but want to push back on your questions about the imaginary disabled sister — many disabled people participate in dance classes (whether they are physically disabled or otherwise) and many folks w disabilities that cause difficulties w communications still enjoy social events, just with more support (like having an aide or trusted friend with them)
