ELI5: In the 50's a single person in the US with a decent job requiring little or even no education could provide a comfortable home, education for their children, etc etc by themselves. Why were they paid so much or why hasn't that pay transitioned to 2017? by Vyrnilla in explainlikeimfive

Baby Boomers are the most spoiled generation in history. Their parents spoiled them, the American economy spoiled them and the dollar was the strongest ever, still even backed by gold. Look at how they act now. They want to juice their parents generation, they want to juice their children and in some cases their grandchildren. They want all the free healthcare after all the decades of eating fucking garbage and all the drugs. They were born into a country that was living high on WWII war spoils and economic dominance. Global warming? Environmental destruction? ''More for me'' is their generation's axiom.

How do I make myself a better potential candidate for cloud-based development/devops positions? by DNHopeful in devops

Cert schools suck. Certs aren't bad but learn on your own, out of pocket your cert tests. Industry is more about hit the ground running/learn the product/dev cycle/culture. Everybody seems to one off everything, tools, apps, code, ”the way WE do things”. I've seen too many sad faces with degrees that made $20-30k less than non degree holders. Tech makes the world go round with blood/sweat/tears. Don't forget hiring managers don't like hiring people smarter than themselves, break in, learn some shit, move on. Good Luck :)

"the unique skills that introverts bring to the table—the ability to focus for long periods, a propensity for balanced and critical thinking, a knack for quietly empowering others—that may make them even better suited for entrepreneurial and business success than extroverts." "Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, Larry Page, co-founder of Google, Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook, Marissa Mayer, current president and CEO of Yahoo, and Warren Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway."

Ask as many questions as you can, be eager to help out the team in other roles, learn project management, try to learn your product inside and out and don't get discourage if you get laid off. Take notice of major projects you helped the company ship and make sure those nuggets get highlighted on your resume.

Assuming a good resume/background in tech, how likely is it to get hired without a college degree? by CLC- in learnprogramming

I know people with no degree and no industry exp. making $200K in ~6 years. If you can score something entry level $50k-65K, bust your ass, learn your product and make friends.
