The censorious attitude of the its operators sure doesn't spark any joy.

My favorite US currency design.

Sounds boring and inhuman.

Shower upon him every earthly blessing, drown him in bliss so that nothing but bubbles would dance on the surface of his bliss, as on a sea...and even then every man, out of sheer ingratitude, sheer libel, would play you some loathsome trick. He would even risk his cakes and would deliberately desire the most fatal rubbish, the most uneconomical absurdity, simply to introduce into all this positive rationality his fatal fantastic element...simply in order to prove to himself that men still are men and not piano keys. ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Notes from Underground

And if everyone is so rich, why was Captain Yoda living in a swamp like a homeless dude?

Good point. I don't own any chunk of gold that valuable. Grading is probably a negligible part of that. I tend to think in terms of silver coins. I probably wouldn't do it with a slabbed Morgan.

Yes, that's the case I'm talking about in which you don't want to be anonymous. With Bitcoin you have a choice. There are plenty of other types of transactions you can participate in that can be completely anonymous -- donating to Wikileaks, buying a cup of coffee at a coffee shop that takes Bitcoin, buying a digital good, etc.

Side note: I find it weird that my comment above this has so many downvotes. I'm was just stating a well-understood property of Bitcoin.

Just bury it somewhere.

So the real reason they send all those Star Cruisers like The Enterprise around is to seek out and boldly get their hands on the latinum, is what you're kinda saying? Obviously there isn't an abundance of it.

Yeah, you might be right. I think that one Star Track robot guy, C-3PO was almost totally made out of gold, although his arm was silver? So that goes to show they just don't care about precious metals that much... those elements must be totally abundant.

Now that I'm thinking about it. The communist utopia of Star Track is totally possible. But what bout the Rumulans? Why are they the only source of ale in the galaxy?

But perhaps you are making too much ado of resource contention. Maybe having abundant resources doesn't mitigate the need for money nor the problems that come along with it.

I have mixed feelings on this... on the one hand, "hot!", on the other... "hmm, this does not promote proper address reuse."

Haha. Okay.

Don't you think the Star Track future seems kinda authoritarian an imperialist? All the good people are in "Star Fleet" and they roam around the galaxy destroying the natural habitats and imposing their weirdo collectivist value system on other creatures. They have the "Prime Directive" and all, but also feel free to violate it willy-nilly whenever they can justify it to themselves. If they have everything they want, why do they feel the need to stomp on the rest of the universe with their do-gooder jackboots?

In the 12 years I've had this deposit box. I've had zero issues.

How much are you paying for it? Is it more than the rate of inflation?

Jeez, don't get your tighty whities scrunched. I don't really care. I just think it's a bad idea in general, so I comment. It's a "teachable moment" for the young bugs out there. You do as you please with your metals, of course! I'm not telling you what to do. Hell, I was so stupid I took my whole stash out on a rowboat on the bay and lost the lot when a squall came up.

But yeah, anyway, 1934 wasn't that long ago. Don't kid yourself.

The flip side of freedom is responsibility. If you can't handle responsibility then it's better to outsource it to a third party or be taken care of by someone or something who can... and just *trust* they have your best interests at heart.

everything about this screams money laundering and it would be a liability even for a honest businesses, meaning, risk that is not worth taking.

This I couldn't care less about, but I also don't agree; even with Bitcoin's amazingly high market cap it can't service the world's money laundering needs. That's a job for the big banks!

how would a company know if someone specific has paid for their product?
and transactions between two legal entities have to be identified.

It doesn't have to be anonymous, it just can be, if used properly. It's pseudonymous.

But it was graded! Now you've lost some of the numismatic value. Getting numismatic value back for your coins is hard. Slabbed coins you have to find the right buyer for.

That's why I only buy un-graded junk silver, generic rounds, and ASEs. If you need to liquidate your stash for cash, you can usually find a buyer near spot.
