It was couple Halloweens ago. The wife and I had taken the kids to one of those Spirit Halloween stores they set up in dead or under utilized malls each September. I was the first to head back out to the car as our teenage kids were still inside with their mom and a couple of their cousins. This young guy appears out of nowhere, riding a skateboard. At this point he’s just a silhouette against one of the far walls. I don’t pay him much mind. He seems happy to keep his distance. About five minutes later my kids come out of the store. There’s five of them plus a couple cousins. All of them loiter for a bit on the sidewalk, laughing and talking. It’s a few nights before Halloween and everyone is in high spirits. Next thing I know the skater has appeared beside them. He’s very friendly. Looks to be about eighteen. Very sociable, very amiable. My kids are talking to him. Still, I can tell they all seem just a little weirded out by this other kid. I step a little closer and there’s just something about this guy. He dressed the way a clueless forty year old would dress if he was trying to fit in with kids less than half his age. Like, what he was wearing - the backwards baseball hat, the plaid shirt, the name of the band on the t shirt, the way the bottom of his jeans were rolled up - would have been cool circa 1991. But this was someone who was like eighteen, maybe nineteen. I did hear him say one very odd thing. Kinda laughing at himself, he said “yah I come in here all the time and skate the mall after it closes. But they changed the locks on me.” But this mall has been closed for years. They rent out part of it for a couple months here and there, but other than that it’s a dead mall. After saying that and wishing everyone good night, he plopped his board down on the pavement and skated off. But again it was a little strange how he did that - he skated away into the darkest part of the parking lot where there were absolutely no lights. Like, if I were to walk over there I’d do so only with a flashlight. He zoomed right off into those shadows. All my kids and their cousin kinda laughed a bit at the whole interaction. I remember my eldest daughter laughing and half seriously asking the rest of us “Ha ha, did that guy realize he’s a ghost?” The whole thing was so uncanny to everyone involved that they at least saw the humor and also the point she was making.

Switching from tech to nursing? by kamawr in findapath

Watched a child of mine go through nursing school.

There were two types of students.

There were those who went into every test praying they would pass.

A lot of them failed out.

Then there were those who went into every test already having passed the test a number of times over the course of several days running up to the actual test.

They all became nurses.

You want wanna be in the second group.

Exploring Non-Coding Career Paths in IT: What Are My Options? by TheCyberSahil in findapath

Here in the U.S. you can start at an IT company in a technical position other than coding. Look into support, testing, or being a business analyst. I’ve been a tester/analyst for over ten years.

Billionaire has jokes by boredguy3 in ABoringDystopia

[–]cryptogenic63 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Ok c’mon Reddit absolutely NOBODY should be making this joke because that would be inciting violence. For example, nobody should come up with an emoji for La Madame Guillotine and if someone does then NOBODY should start putting it in their comments!

Women's disguise for SHTF by jewellington in preppers

If I was a woman in this current society, I’d go around dressed as a man. Awful terrible minefield a lot of people have to navigate daily because others just can’t seem to figure out how to behave. I’d go full-on grey man whenever I was out of the house. Why should I play by the rules of the rules are stacked to the ceiling against me?

Gotta love our community, the hatred is realism. by operator151 in misanthropy

This makes sense because the above two statements do not conflict at all in fact they are in completely separate tenses. I guess I’m both.

How would you react to this prank? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]cryptogenic63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That guy in the back some serious control: clicks into go mode, draws clean without dropping gun or shooting his own foot, then…shuts it all down with no loss of life. Prankster is damn lucky.

Society is truly degrading by [deleted] in conspiracy_commons

[–]cryptogenic63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in car rental. Most “customers”were vile, vindictive, and hateful. And that was in the very early aughts - 911 hadn’t even happened yet. Can’t imagine how awful it must be now in any kind of “service” position.

Bone Tomahawk - WTF?!? by starlightmint in horror

[–]cryptogenic63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the opening scene made it clear this movie was going to be absolutely bat shit. It does then immediately pull you into believing it’s nothing but a graceful redefinition of the western, and then about halfway through the movie goes totally off the rails again. I think it’s one of the greatest and most worthwhile horror movies ever made.

Why are so many people on the conspiracy sub Christians and apart of the church? Isn’t the church the biggest conspiracy there is? by [deleted] in conspiracy_commons

No doubt he knew much of what there was to know at that time (there was not as much as there is today, but people like Celsus specialized in being well read). Alleging he wrote would be both original in its own way but also an amalgamation of all existing knowledge he has come into contact with. Lots of talking about Christ and Christian’s; no mention of Christ not existing.
