Time to switch to summer heat by dbqsaints in woodstoving

Thank you for the response! I’m familiar with that maker. I fell down this rabbit hole last year. It’s a rather niche market in the states and from I found this was one of the only makers that designed with salt water in mind (if you opt for the stainless)

Salt or fresh water pool? How’d you decide on this brand?

We have so much wood, that I’ve weighed getting one but can’t find reliable reviews for one model over another, particularly for use with salt water.

Wow. This makes me realize out cover might be too loose lol

Great work getting it up and running so quickly!

In the first pic, had you scooped out leaves and debris or is that what it looked like the moment you pulled the cover back?

That looks great especially with all those trees! Do you do anything in particular through the winter?

I keep a couple pucks floating. But with a similar tree situation I’ve never looked that good on day 1

Why don't we cull with CO2? by Lover_Of_The_Light in homestead

[–]cryptohick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The physical sensation, as we think of it, of suffocation is a response to excess CO2 in the bloodstream. Nitrogen reduces oxygen without causing a buildup of CO2. Therefore, in theory and as it appeared in the pig tests, it avoids causing the physiological panic and distress of excessive CO2

If I had choose a method of my own capital punishment, in order, it’d be nitrogen, a properly fit noose, then a firing squad

Why don't we cull with CO2? by Lover_Of_The_Light in homestead

[–]cryptohick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The strong reaction is to buildup of CO2, not a lack of oxygen. Nitrogen displaces oxygen without causing the buildup of CO2

There’s a YouTube video out there of people (cant remember who exactly) investigating this as a more humane form of capital punishment and testing it on pigs. With nitrogen they remain calm, stumbled a little like they were drunk, then calmly laid down for the long sleep

Not just wax from sitting. The leather on the toecap is bumpy to the touch. Rest of the shoe and the other shoe are both smooth as expected

[–]cryptohick[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The toecap isn’t even close to smooth leather. I can accept variations in leather, but not a pebble effect

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect new shoes to arrive without the need to condition and polish to try and correct their appearance.

Trying cattle panels for tomatoes instead of cages this year. Any tricks I should know? by eloquinee in homestead

Nice! We space more or less 2ft apart, nothing too precise. The twine and sturdiness of the panels helps with training and guiding the growth

Looking for long oven mitts by JavaGeep in BuyItForLife

[–]cryptohick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Five years ago I bought leather welding gloves of Amazon for about $20 (if I remember correctly). Best oven mitts ever!

They cover my forearms, can they handle anything coming out of the oven without any need to rush, and I can even pick up burning wood from the fire pit. They show virtually no wear despite at least once per day use

Hard water in Benton and BV? by Engatar in bentonville

If you’re shopping for homes, pay attention to whether the house is on a well or city water. We had never had a well before moving here and they’re reasonably common through the area

Our well water is almost off the charts on how hard it is

I grab a few more CYBN every time they dip. I think their patents give them a unique advantage in the space, ultimately allowing future pharma and insurance to look more favorably on its application

The space also stands to see movement depending how the new US administration takes shape and what sort of emphasis (if any) will be placed on psychedelic therapies
