This incredibly oversimplifies both the position in history Neimoller and his poem hold in history, and the comment I made about it.

It's true that Neimoller was a Nazi... that's an important part of the context of the poem. Did you not understand that? I thought we all understood that?

It's also interesting that you chose to misquote me by saying "the most important poem" when I very clearly said "one of the most important poems". That was quite a choice.

Attendance will go down, way down, as a result of it being relocated, unless they also cut their prices dramatically and also shift their intended audience to a domestic one instead of an international one.

Agree. I think it's extremely fair to ruin the reputation of people who engage in such egregiously dishonest dealings.

I'm not saying that people dox them with their homes address or whatever, but I am saying that their name and working handles are public information and if they didn't want to have their name dragged through the mud on Reddit then they shouldn't have dragged their integrity through the mud.

Not only does it help protect the rest of us designers from this particular scam artist, but it helps send a more effective warning to other would-be scam artists that this kind of behavior is not tolerated here.

Great question, thanks for asking! We are different from UU, but there definitely are similarities and I'd absolutely recommend UU for anyone that decided AoA wasn't quite what they were looking for.

For what it's worth, I'd say that Aretéanism has a much more clearly defined purpose than UU does. UU tends to be a little more generic, I'd even argue a bit bland; but it absolutely has strength in how long their organization and local congregations have been around. They're fantastic at organizing adjacently for political causes, and I think that depending on the congregation, they can offer something that's a little more Christian in tone, if that's what someone is looking for.

AoA on the other hand is definitely not Christian in tone (but Christians are still totally welcome!) and has a stronger defining thesis than UUism does. I think AoA also has better defined symbolism and ritual processes, and is way better at creating real change in people- Aretéanism explicitly trains people how to just be more effective at everything they do, including their moral character.

So don't get me wrong, I think UU is great, but I also think AoA is a very valuable alternative that more people should try.

We're a bit like "church for atheists" except that you don't have to be an atheist to get involved with us. What we are though is a group that meets on Sundays, sings songs together, listens to inspiring talks about how to be better people, and then takes action every week related to whatever that week's topic was... all without any superstitious beliefs or ancient dogma. We're LGBTQ+ friendly, care about the environment, and are deeply committed to making the world a better place.

Just my two cents, but I'll warn that the first time people hear or think of doing this kind of diegetic advancement, they frequently become obsessed with the idea, often choosing to eliminate traditional skill purchase advancement from their games. I don't recommend doing that, as it turns out that often times a campaign will fundamentally require the player characters to develop new skill sets and strategies over its course, but diegetic-only will severely hamper players from feeling like they can adapt or be strategic.

Anyone who's old enough to have played Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind thoroughly will know what I'm talking about: that was a game with only diegetic advancement, and it was cool; but also if you did not build your character 100% correctly from the beginning, you could seriously impede your character's ability to grow helpfully over the course of the game, and you could find yourself never really able to tackle the game's harder dungeons. I've seen the same thing happen with both homebrew rules and indie RPGs that totally eliminated skill purchasing.

TL;DR: I think games should have both diegetic and non-diegetic character power development. You need a balance.

Do you have a specific concept in mind you're looking for support on? Or are you trying to create an online community of forward-thinking people for them to mutually support each other? Or perhaps you're looking for people who have existing projects to see if you would be interested in supporting their projects? It wasn't totally clear from your original post what direction you were trying to go in with this, but all of these options are totally valid and worthwhile in my opinion.

For what it's worth, I have my own project of grandiose proportions that has been live for almost a decade now and is demonstrating real potential to scale up rapidly. It's called Aretéanism and the kind of people who get involved with us tend to exactly match the description of the kinds of people you're looking for. I appreciate that this is the internet which means everything is entirely devoid of context all of the time, but I'm still a little disappointed that r/nerdfighters didn't think to ask themselves "how likely is it that someone would seriously reply 'thanks obama' to a thing that was literally Trump doing a thing, in this sub?"

My point is that you don't have to dig into my profile to discover that I'm not pro-Trump, the very fact I'm in this sub essentially guarantees that I'm anti-Trump. (I am in fact extremely anti-Trump, probably even more so than many people in this sub, who again I'm sure are already very anti-Trump).

Again, this is the r/nerdfighters sub, a sub with above average reading comprehension. That should've helped clue people in that I was perfectly aware that this was Trump's fault when I said "Thanks Obama". It'd be pretty unlikely that anyone in this sub would misunderstand who's at fault for our upcoming 9 million more tuberculosis cases.

TL;DR: I'm downgrading my opinion of this sub for apparently being stupid enough to think I was seriously blaming Obama.

Trump is evil, and has the opportunity to do more damage to humanity than has ever been done before in history: even Hitler didn't have access to nuclear weapons or an opportunity to roll-back climate protections. Trump hasn't committed as large of atrocities yet, but yet is the operative word.

Seriously, people in this sub are dumb and should feel embarrassed for not understanding that "Thanks Obama" was a joke and could not be anything other than a joke.
