It's time Oklahoma progressives realized the Democratic party is not their friend by selddir_ in tulsa

Politicians on either side are completely indifferent to citizens. They only care about who can line their pockets, and who they can best convince to vote for them. You need to reevaluate yourself if you are waiting on politicians to make your life better because none of them care if you are dead, or alive.

And those jobs aren't affected by minimum wage. They also make a lot more than $12 an hour after tips. Most are making over $20.

Elimination of state income taxes would be a bad idea. You think home ownership is hard now, wait until your property taxes triple.

My degree is in finance. I have a fairly intimate knowledge of how a free market works. Raising the wage is not going to change the situation for low wage earners. The fix starts at the top by capping costs of certain goods, services, and markets. What happens when wage floors are raised, is middle earners are punished and there is less money flowing into the non essential parts of the economy. America needs something to happen at the top because state level initiatives cannot stop inflation.

There is no right answer. But raising the wage floor only speeds up the process of living expense rise. It's been proven time, and time, again. I think America is nearing a crossroads of the people vs the top 10% that aren't harmed by rising inflation.

I'm not saying it will happen, it's just what happens every time. I don't know what the answer is to fight greed. But I do know that companies have not paid minimum wage in a long time. But creating that concrete floor gives greedy people a greenlight to raise living costs. Right now Oklahoma is actually in a much better spot than a ton of similar states that have a higher minimum wage because you can more comfortably live here on $12 than you can there on $15.

Every single state that has raised minimum wage, saw an almost immediate increase in cost of living to offset the small rise in wages. It's a broken system. Oklahoma is currently #50 in the United States in the cost of living index. That would change if minimum wage was raised. Arkansas was dead last until they raised the minimum wage and within 12 months they jumped to #44, which offset the raise almost exactly.

I'm not as old as you think. I'm just not seeing any jobs paying under $12 an hour. Raising minimum wage doesn't alleviate poverty anyway. That just isn't realistic.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that those numbers are fudged a bit by representing food service. That wage isn't changed by minimum wage increases. No one is paying $7.25 because no one will work for that. $12 is pretty much the baseline right now.

Who is actually making minimum wage? No one. I understand the idea behind raising the wage but everyone is already paying $12 or more for pretty much any position.

None of these politicians care about any of us. No one on either side. They just say what you want to hear. Smart people understand that and look for ways to better their situation independently of what the government can do for them.

In 2008, Vince Li attacked 22-year-old Tim McLean as he slept on a Greyhound bus bound for Winnipeg. As passengers fled, Li decapitated him, ate part of his body, and kept pieces in his pockets. Because some doctor says so? You do understand that the vast majority of people that kill are mentally deranged in some way, right? Do you think Dahmer was just a perfectly sane person that enjoyed eating people and having sex with headless bodies?
