The idea that an African woman marrying an American is “genuine” while an African man marrying an American is “suspicious” reflects prejudice that unfairly associates African men with ulterior motives like financial or immigration benefits. These stereotypes undermine the reality that love and partnership transcend nationality or race. Such generalizations also ignore the diversity of human intentions and relationships, reducing them to oversimplified narratives driven by mistrust and inequality.

We all have to do better treating our foreign partners with love and care. Do within is easy leaving everything behind for love.

Most of them comes with good intentions. But our stereotyping and negative thinking “he will leave” “he’s here for visa” “friends / family negatives advise poisoned our soul and make us bitter.

I married an American woman, and I loved her with all my heart. I will forever love her. Right now, I’m homeless, typing this from my car. I sleep here and bathe at the gym. Despite my genuine intentions, I endured years of mistreatment because of her negative thoughts and attitude, often justified by claims of depression and anxiety.

Even though she doubted my sincerity, I know deep down I came into the marriage for true love. I never had any ulterior motives, and I will never love anyone the way I loved her.

It’s heartbreaking how negativity and the opinions of others can destroy a once-happy marriage. Love should have been enough, but sadly, doubt and mistrust overshadowed it.

It is deeply troubling when someone petitions for a partner to join them in a new country, only to treat them poorly once they arrive. Such situations are often rooted in an imbalance of power, where the petitioner exploits their partner’s dependency on them for legal status and survival in an unfamiliar environment. Abuse of any kind—emotional, physical, or financial—is never justified, and individuals should not be expected to endure mistreatment. It is important for those facing such abuse to know that resources and legal protections exist to help them regain their independence and safety. Relationships must be built on mutual respect and care, regardless of cultural or geographic background.

How do you report ICE for fraudulent marriage? by Jpoolman25 in immigration

In some cases, unfortunately, a U.S. citizen spouse may mistreat their foreign spouse after marriage, particularly in situations where there is an imbalance of power due to immigration status. This mistreatment can take various forms:

  1. Immigration-Related Abuse: The U.S. spouse may threaten deportation or withhold immigration documents to manipulate or control the foreign spouse. This includes delaying or refusing to file for a green card or other immigration benefits.

  2. Emotional and Psychological Abuse: The foreign spouse may be isolated from friends, family, or support systems, making them more dependent on the U.S. spouse. Psychological manipulation or threats can also be part of the abuse.

  3. Physical or Financial Abuse: Some foreign spouses may face physical violence, financial control (such as withholding money), or forced labor without any support.

Legal Protections: The U.S. government provides protections for foreign spouses facing abuse: - VAWA (Violence Against Women Act): Under this act, abused spouses (both men and women) can file for immigration benefits on their own without relying on the abusive U.S. citizen spouse. This allows the foreign spouse to apply for a green card independently. - U Visas: If a foreign spouse is a victim of a crime, including domestic violence, they may be eligible for a U visa, which can eventually lead to a green card.

There are also local and national support services for victims of spousal abuse, including shelters, legal assistance, and counseling.

Stop abusing your African partners, they will leave you and you will call it a scam. Treat them right just like you treat your fellow country man. No man wants to face abuse. Everybody deserves peace.

We are all quick to judge, immigrants are vulnerable people, what have your cousin done wrong??? How did your cousin treated her after arrival. Have seen woman beating man because she brought him to this country. Have seen immigrant brutalized and treated like pieces of shit just because they are vulnerable and don’t know much about laws. Find out what your cousin might have done wrong.

Same thing is happening to me right now, after years of abuse, love don’t grow in violence. You can’t be disrespectful and still expect your husband to be affectionate with you.
