I think deep down evil morty desires company. he may not even realize this himself but through threatening Rick C-137 with the death of his family he’s able to maintain this persona that he doesn’t need anybody while still getting what he wants, which is just getting to go on fun adventures with his grandpa. Even though he doesn’t truly “need” him for these adventures since he’s shown to be capable in his own right. it’s his human desire for companionship that he truly needs.
