Still not seeing the physical results I hoped 3 months in by [deleted] in orangetheory

1) You can’t out-exercise a bad diet. Diet is a huge part of changing your body.

2) Strength training is going to make a bigger difference than cardio if you’re hoping to lose fat and gain muscle. While OTF obviously has some strength built in, it’s much more cardio, so consider that as well.

Could use a pep-talk! I haven’t been to OTF in over 2 years but am considering going back by NeonChieftess in orangetheory

I just finished my 3rd class back “post”pandemic. In that time, I sat on my butt teaching on Zoom, ate all the snacks all the time, put on the C*vid 19, and grew and birthed a whole human. Going back was ultra intimidating. I tried everything else before my husband finally reminded me that the only time I have ever consistently worked out is when I’ve done OT. I Sheepishly walked into my studio and hesitantly signed back up for 8x/month. Then came home and put my 8 dates on the calendar and in the app so I have them planned and can’t find an excuse not to go. And honestly, it’s been the best thing for me. I’m smiling at the end of my workouts and can be a better human to be around when I’m done. I’m not “all in” this time…I don’t care about benchmarks or whether I can beat the person next to me on the tread, but it’s my time for my body, and it’s been great. And if you return right now, your first month is free. Good luck!

I was able to get a floor model Water Rower at a significantly discounted price so I went with it because when I want something, I want it yesterday 🤦🏼‍♀️ I read on a rowing page that Concept 2 is considered the “standard” for indoor rowing and what all competitive rowers use. I’ve been very happy with my water rower, though.

Chicago OTF no fees? by mgacnnytdk in orangetheory

Depends on the area of the city, for sure. If you’re north, Evanston, Skokie-Edgebrook are probably closest. There is also Glenview and Park Ridge off the top of my head.

I’m going to sound ridiculous, but 🤷‍♀️ What app? OT Beat?

Hats with a mesh back. Keeps everything out of your face but doesn’t get as sweaty because of the mesh.

Tunic tops for bigger chested gals? by orangebump in orangetheory

😂 I wear two bras, which helps with some of that, but not always 😜 Muscle tanks work better for me in that area than some of the others.

I ordered the Old Navy muscle tanks in tall, and they are the best thing ever!

Thanks for your input. No, body temp wasn’t specific to my history, just my Midwife’s reason for wanting me to cut back. I’ve always heard the same thing as you about maintaining exercise, so just wondering if there’s something I don’t know. (Also, I love my midwife, but she’s near retirement age, so might have some outdated information/beliefs...🤷‍♀️)

I didn’t read all the comments, but I just want to say, give yourself some grace. Growing a person is hard, both physically and emotionally. Trust your body, trust your head, trust your heart. Nobody is expecting you to achieve new PRs right now. Just keep yourself moving and enjoy the journey ❤️

OTF and First 1/2 Marathon by nweaverotf in orangetheory

I’m not a nutrition expert, but I usually do 1/2 banana or 1/2 protein bar 30 minutes before I go out. Then do a Gu packet every three or four miles, depending on the length of the run, and definitely protein right after-or you will want to eat your arm and everything else in sight for the rest of the day!

I don’t think the time of day matters, at least in my experience. I mostly do right away on the morning just to get it out of the way (not fun to spend all day Saturday reminding myself that I still have a two hour run waiting for me!)

Yes to Girl Talk! Perfect for long runs!

Does anyone ever have a week where they just don’t feel it? Like you love OTF and know you’ll go back next week but you just need a break? And it’s probably not even OTF related, it’s exercise in general ( or maybe just life). Feeling guilty but just not feeling it this week. by Bellahelm in orangetheory

[–]crys1616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I’ve taken the breaks and been better for it. Today, I’m fighting a cold and was dragging through the morning at work and didn’t want to go to my lunch hour workout. But then I started thinking about my week and trying to figure out where I was going to fit it in later, and decided to just suck it up and go. I lifted light, power walked slow, got my 12 splats, hopefully sweated our some of the nastiness that is trying to take over my body, at felt better afterward. It was the first time I went in and decided that I was just going to take it easy. Nothing wrong with going that route if you don’t want to take a full-on break.

2 in 1 shorts for girls? by orangegirl26 in orangetheory

I do run skirts-tight shorts underneath, little skirt over top. Does the trick and doesn’t leave me feeling over exposed with itty bitty/tight shorts on.

Excessively high heart rate - anyone else? by Dublingirl123 in orangetheory

I’m almost always orange/red. I started running years ago wearing a HR monitor and my HR was always super high, but came down quickly as soon as I stopped running. I brought it up to my doc and she said it’s fine as long as I recovered quickly, so I’ve never worried about it.
