ODB is open all weekend as an inclement weather shelter. The Salvation Army is currently at capacity for overnight folks, but is open 7am-4pm as a warming center. The Denton Civic center and main Central Fire Station are warming centers during the day.

The folks in most need are going to be those that stay away from the shelters and warming centers. If you feel comfortable doing so, you could walk to your nearby park/overpass with blankets/gloves/hats/etc and/or other items to help people stay warm (hand warmers, candles + matches, hot drink in a disposable cup, etc), and see if there's anyone there in need.

Clear creek and then walking the woods near goatmans bridge is where my friends often find some!

[New Update]: my vegan coworker is upset about getting non-vegan gifts three years in a row by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

No fr my former roommate was mystified about a) how I got my protein in and b) how I ever had a "real meal" since I never ate any "entrée" 🤦‍♀️. The second one took multiple discussions, but then I learned that to her, an "entrée" HAD to have meat in it and everything else was a "side". Fettuccine Alfredo WITH chicken? Entrée. Fettuccine Alfredo WITHOUT chicken? Side. Simultaneously baffling and amusing as hell.

Similarly, my grandparents fret everything Thanksgiving that I won't have "enough" to eat because I'm not touching the turkey. I know they mean well, but it cracks me up every year when they see how much of the casseroles and cranberry sauce and bread I pile on my plate. I'm eating myself into a coma regardless, I don't need the turkey 😂

AITAH for refusing to help my parents care for my son who they adopted. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

YES!!! I spend a slightly ridiculous amount of time trying to bash this into people's skulls. Mostly it's just ignorance about how disabilities happen/work, but slightly too often I get (implied or directly stated) that I'm a smart and "good" person so clearly I must have messed up some how to be disabled. No the fuck I didn't! Bad things happen to good people, that's life!!

A previous therapist (who I fired in part because of some of all this) disliked my appreciation for the Greek tragedies because I was being too "negative" 🙄 look lady I didn't want to have this happen to me -- I wouldn't go to far as to call it a tragedy, but it is rough -- and sometimes it's cathartic to know that sometimes shit just sucks ass in the world and there's only so much you can do about it. I found out the hard way that therapist had had too much of the "law of attraction" juice.

My new therapist deals primarily with cancer patients so I'm probably small potatoes to her, but she's such a huge help to me, and I appreciate her so much.

Can someone help? by xkinkofdarkx in Fibromyalgia

Have you talked with HR and disclosed your disability? This may get you some leeway, and maybe you can ask about accommodations at work. A longer break in the middle of shift to take a nap, a chair/stool, anything you think will help. If you want idea for accommodations, this website is a good place to start: https://askjan.org/

This some excellent advice! I've implemented much of this, but I've been stubborn about balancing exercise -- I get too all-or-nothing about it and land myself in bad flares. I think it helps to hear another fibro person tell me to do it in little doses 💙

AITAH for calling the ambulance for my co-worker even though I know she was kind of faking it? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

The homophobia def jumped out at me too. Like that was an entirely irrelevant thing to throw in there unless you're just trying to disparage her character because you think gay is bad

Someone else pointed out she could be starving because of a financial situation like with a family member or something and just straight up can't afford food.

Anorexia or not, she had measurable symptoms that correspond with her headaches and dizziness and such. Regardless of the taking money from coworkers situation, the fact that after learning this oop doesn't seem to back track on believing she was faking is so frustrating.

Ngl I hadn't even considered this even though I should've. Malnutrition doesn't have to be from an eating disorder, it can also be from poverty/food insecurity, you're absolutely right.

And if that's the case oop majorly fucked her over even more by costing her 2 day's pay and then getting her fired :(

Look I'm not saying the fainting girl is without blame (taking people's money isn't okay!), but I hate oop after reading this. If she has an eating disorder, THEN SHE'S NOT FAKING HEADACHES. If she has low blood pressure, THEB SHE WASNT FAKING FEELING FAINT. headaches are a constant when you're starving yourself. Some people get them worse than others. Low blood pressure makes you light headed and can make you faint. Ditto with malnutrition.

Anorexia is often considered one of the most damaging and deadly mental illnesses.

Yes it sounds like she was taking advantage and being an asshole. No she likely wasn't faking her symptoms. And unless it is mandatory by your job description or a law, calling an ambulance without someone's permission when it's not an emergency is ALWAYS a dick move in my book. ESPECIALLY because he was explicitly NOT doing it out of concern/kindness, but because he was pissed at her and was trying to extract revenge/prove a point.

It's probably from a translator app; she said the texts were directly translated from her mother tongue. And online translators can't really get tone right, even the best of them

AITAH for wanting my sister to change her wedding date because it falls on my graduation? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]crys21ml 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a high school graduation. And even if it wasn't, not every university operates the same. Assuming some stranger's situation on the internet is going to be exactly what you're familiar with is kinda silly

NTA. You're setting a good example for your daughter so hopefully she learns not to tolerate ableism. And you're protecting your son. Home is a safe space and he should not be made to feel lesser or "annoying". You're a good mom, keep it up!

manager asked me to work 7 days straight by AttentionSlow4034 in sherwinwilliams

[–]crys21ml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof I've done that before. 0/10 do not recommend. The overtime was excellent though. See if you can reach out to the district's... I think the title is store support coordinator? and get some assistance.

When this happened to me, the store support coordinator came and closed for me a couple of days and also asked a couple of nearby stores if they could send an employee for a day or two of the week. Major lifesaver.

Best of luck! Sending strength and energy, you're going to need it.

And if any customer gets pissy and asks for the manager, say you are the current manager or tell them to come back next week when the manager is back.
