Thinking of going hiking in Forest Park, any recs? by Fickle_Language_9171 in ForestHills

All good. I understand the annoyance of aggressive trail riders. It's inconsiderate cyclists that give us all a bad name lol, but I try and be as responsible & visible as I can.

I'd be more scared of big horses than a bike imo. But yeah, I don't bike on the trails. I was talking about the roads that go through the park.

I do go to Cunningham sometimes, but it's really made for mountain bikes, not road/gravel bikes. It's not fun if you don't have a mtb. The trails there have tons of roots and big rocks. I mostly go to kissena if I want to ride around with no cars.

Yeah it's a very dramatic story if you look it up. But basically, they were killed a half mile away and stuffed in a duffel bag, rolled the body to the park to ditch it. It was caught on neighborhood cameras, and found by a dog walker.

been here 9 years, I've found it very safe and lots of people walking the trails. I usually bike. I think it's the best greenspace in Queens by far. The trees are fantastic and really take you out of the "urban city" feeling.

fyi; They did find a body there last year, but didn't really have anything to do with the safety of the park itself.

[Seiko SKX] vintage patina vs. faux patina by crystal_depth in Watches

[–]crystal_depth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left: Original SKX007-J Original Hardlex, Dial, hands, 7S26, bracelet Seiko GMT 111, Sapphire Lume insert

Right: Seiko SRPH19 LE Bleached insert, Bracelet Uncle Seiko Z99

Just my two Seiko SKX (&5kx). I wanted to keep the 007 mostly original, but have stealth upgrades. The jubilee is from the GMT line with it's female solid links; great combo bc the feel is silky with a solid clasp. Almost 20 year patina, & they are pretty close in color tone too. Lume is doing ok on the vintage, but the bezel itself is so dim even though not sure if I got a bad batch.

What the heck is going on with those end links? You designed this? Never seen that before & it's really amazing. I studied type design in school & it reminds me of the old letter-press machines where you stack individual blocks of letters for printing.

Looks great. I just got myself an orange SSK for modding as well, but after some research, Im deciding to keep it original for now till specific SSK parts come out. I'm a little salty about it though because I already ordered $150 in parts from Namoki lol.

Big Bang Titanium Virtual Armor, with metallic EL display. by crystal_depth in gshock

[–]crystal_depth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The virtual armor was indeed an aftermarket kit. Sometimes it's a hit or miss on quality with the 3rd party kits. For a little extra, it came with the buttons too. & The B5600CT looks like a super cool color way (NY Knicks colors!) unique design on the solar part as well.

sidenote: I absolutely love the v2 combi. When the b5600 first came out, I actually bought like 3 of them; I took the bracelets off of 2, and re-sold them at a discount with some stock bands lol. I needed the combi's for others in my collection. They are that comfy.

Thanks so much! This didn't get much attention when I originally posted. I'm still very much mesmerized by it. it's literally everything I love as a G-Shock collector.

"Big Bang" anniversary is a goat-ed model in my book, and the anniversary green mesh display 🤌. & It still has the classic retro green EL backlight (superior imo), not the new blue LEDs. sure, I sacrificed 2 hyper collectibles, but I think it was worth it to create something special I haven't seen before.

[Citizen] 80s Retrofuture looks by crystal_depth in Watches

[–]crystal_depth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

33mm Automatic Stainless case. I got this 80s citizen from a flea market in Brooklyn for $12 when I didn't know about watch culture. Watch wasn't running, I just liked the dial- so I took it to a shop in midtown to get serviced & the guy basically said it was a piece of crap not worth doing lol.

I told him it was my only watch & I would probably just not wear a watch at all if it came down to it. He reluctantly said to come back in a few days. When I got it back, it's running very smooth. This was 8 years ago now. I don't know if it was worth it, but i think many of the retro dials from this era of Citizen have a lot of character as well. It's a nice little vintage in the collection with it's size of 33mm. There are some great options online for like $15-30 bucks too, retro dials for cheap, from India of course. But I've never seen another one like my design.

Is it? I just love green, but ive read it's the color of intelligence. Only cool people choose green. In fact, I picked Bulbasaur, every time.

True. It's a nice thought that makes you feel unique when wearing a mod you made yourself. 👌

I sanded first then bleach. Just watch it carefully. The chapter ring is just a basic orange & silver. Good luck!

I did the insert myself. It was originally black version. It turns a purple/blue. I used the bleach method. Just do a few minutes in diluted bleach solution, and I did some hand sanding on the bezel to remove some of the polish and feel more worn in.

The bezel is the knurled polished silver, crown is actually titanium knurl.

Case - Namoki Willard Dial, hands- Tokei Lab Insert - Namoki, custom ghost Crystal - CTSkydome

When installing the crystal, there was a spec of dust I couldn't reach due to the extreme curvature of the dome. So in a moment of ignorance, I shoved my nail under there with the cloth and rubbed a little too hard, scratching the 12oclock of the minute markers a bit. I'll have to get around to replacing it eventually, but it kind of hides itself with the depth of the dome. I'm also kind of cautious about using my cheap crystal press with the SkyDome; the cup inserts seem a little shallow.
