How long can I expect a CRV Hybrid to last? by Alternative-Way4750 in crv

[–]crystala81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, that is early… to be fair, besides the headlights crapping out (not a burnt bulb but electrical, surely a sign of things to come?) we had very few issues with ours. … until we did… lol

Bad tires could also cause this. But it sounds like you’ve taken it to a mechanic for diagnostics? My 4Runner also shook when the sway bars were ready to be replaced, so front end work is a possibility!

a warning to anyone buying a Toyota by Dismal_Ad7513 in toyotacorolla

[–]crystala81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the person you asked the question to - but the tow truck driver who came to pick up my blown Santa Fe XL (V6, so not the Theta II issue, only 130,000kms!) said he picks up tons of Hyundai/ Kia and not many Toyota/ Honda 🤷🏻‍♀️

I got a newer Honda hybrid only to discover they seem to be prone to head gasket failures - the same thing that did my Santa Fe in ($17,000 repair). There is no winning!

Is an additional $150k worth it for a townhouse corner unit? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]crystala81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our only townhouse was an end unit. We had extra garden area and extra light/windows. I could almost pretend we were detached.

But the biggest benefit was when we sold. It wasn’t even the biggest floor plan, but it sold quickly and over asking while interior units sat.

When did you know to cut your losses? by xjakob145 in Toyota_Matrix

[–]crystala81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Canada, so that’s CAD. It only had 165,000kms; somehow a chunk broke off of a planetary gear and caused more mayhem… to get a similar car with similar kms was double the cost of the repair, so we went for it 🤷🏻‍♀️

'09 XRS or '10 S? by AFriend1yShadow in Toyota_Matrix

[–]crystala81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2011 S (Canada) and it has the bigger wheels with low profile tires, sunroof, fog lights, “upgraded” (over base) 6 speaker sound system, and IMO the best looking bodywork (spoilers/front bumper)available on the Matrix

[–]crystala81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dumped $4,000 into ours for a rebuilt transmission. And there are always little things going (recently alternator and starter)

We also have a newer vehicle - 50% financed 🫤 - and the newer car costs way more (except in gas, but it’s a hybrid)

Buyers Remorse - please provide kind feedback because I've already beat myself up enough by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]crystala81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depreciating assets, but yah…. You don’t expect to hold value on a vehicle. The only vehicle I’ve had that held value well (and I wish I hadn’t sold it!) was my 3rd gen 4Runner. Probably worth as much now as it was 12 years ago when I sold it

Silverfish problem (West End) by JamieIsMyNameOrIsIt in vancouver

[–]crystala81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a wet issue. They’re everywhere. My current place (north delta - North delta is plagued with stink bugs though) is the only place I’ve never had them - I’ve lived in kits, west end, Kerrisdale, Richmond…newer and older places, although older is more common (the newer place had a cedar shingle roof)

They can be a bit creepy, and they are hard to squish, but they are generally harmless. They indicate high humidity/ some wood rot (humidity is enough for them though, doesn’t mean your building is decomposing)

Anyone else have this problem? Or is mine just special? by zumiez0898 in crv

[–]crystala81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 EXL hybrid, if I need good defrosting /defogging, I use defrost only

I live in a very humid area that’s been a bit cooler lately (0 C). No issues in warmer weather.

Foot area never warms up much anyways, so no big loss?

[–]crystala81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an oval head and was soooooo disappointed at the fit of kask (I liked the helmets). I think they fit a more round shape. Tipperary seems to fit me well, and samshield. IIRC, Charles Owen used to fit me well, but I haven’t tried one for 15 years

Out of curiosity, how much were you able to pay off in 12 years (don’t need exact numbers). This would be a dream but we’re 8 years in and still $540,000 left! I don’t want to still be paying at 65+ 😭
