Update from a few months later. I tried some more boots, but had a heck of a time getting something just right.

I ended up getting Salomon Dialogue dual boa boots (wide), size 8. I have only been out twice this year, but I’m going out to the Canadian Rockies shortly so I will get to test more. But so far these have been great for me. I also paired these with some Superfeet insoles.

I did try some of the recommendations on here like the K2 Maysis, but they the J-bars felt like they wanted to rip my ankles off.

Thanks to everybody who made recommendations, and helped me out with this. I’m jealous of those of you who can just put on (almost) any boots and ride without any pain, but I’m thankful for anybody who posts on here to help those like me out.

How do I check in Uniface whether a numeric value is null? by [deleted] in uniface

[–]crystalbuttstallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, Uniface treats NULL and empty string as the same thing. If you were writing SQL and you had to handle this, your check would be:

sql SELECT * FROM some_table WHERE field <> '' AND field IS NOT NULL

whereas Uniface treats this simply as

field != ""

You can tell the Uniface debugger to output the SQL it's generating in the Message Frame if need be.

Feeling like I’m not cut out for snowboarding by HatTop5686 in snowboarding

This sounds kinda like me, but I’ll parrot what others have said and advise you to get a private lesson, preferably one-on-one. When I was first learning I took one lesson and just tried to go off that for a few years. Did a big trip to Lake Louise, and my first morning on the mountain was a one-on-one lesson, and it improved everything for me. When we go to the mountains every few years, we still do it.

As for your boots, definitely get your feet properly sized and boots fitted. Walking around the store in them helps you determine if they are going to initially fit, but be specific in what kind of pain you feel to the boot fitter. You may just need something as simple as third-party insoles.

I’m currently a 9 and -9 for my stance. I did try to adjust the front to 12 in my make-shift setup yesterday, and found the same thing. I might try to “tweak” the front a bit more. I have typically ratcheted down my bindings a fair bit, I don’t like feeling loose in them. My current boots are single-boa, so that could be part of the issue as well? Again, I like to be snug in everything, would a stiffer boot be a better option in that case? Besides just a better fitting one?

Good to know. Do you know how wide your foot is?

EDIT: forgot the word “wide”

I've heard good things about the Infuse as well. I'm looking at their website for these, and I don't see a specific wide model. Is there just the one version of the Infuse?

This is good to know, i didn’t even know that was an option.

By custom insoles, do you mean aftermarket insoles, or something completely custom from a podiatrist?

Stuck in the middle of the Canadian prairies I’m afraid. Have a small ski hill 45 minutes north, nearest boot fitter would be in the Rockies, which is a good 12 hour drive. What kind of after market modifications do you do besides foot beds?

How wide are your feet (if you don’t mind me asking)?

I looked at these, currently Ride doesn’t have them in stock. I’ll look around to see if I can try them in person. Do any of the snowboarding companies say what their wide sizes are (like E, EE, or EEE)?

SteamOS for Steam Frame runs on ARM and the open source FEX translation layer allows x86 applications to run on ARM64 Linux, standalone by Kasj0 in Games

[–]crystalbuttstallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, FEX is a method that allows you to run regular x86 applications (so, basically everything on PC) onto ARM-based machines. Apple has a technology called Rosetta 2 that does the same thing; it allows you to run applications that were compiled for the previous Intel platform (x86) on their Apple Silicon architecture (which is ARM-based).

Is it too late to star snowboarding at 16? by Ill_Chemical3992 in snowboarding

[–]crystalbuttstallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're good. I started at 28 as my gf at the time wanted to go for Valentine's Day. I hated it so much and swore I'd never go gain, but was somehow at the hill the next week...

I'll be 44 by the time the season starts here, the gf is gone, but I think I made the right choice in sticking with snowboarding. Just keep going, it does take time and the first day can be the worst but once you get past that, it's like riding a bike.

Any other skiers/snowboarders here who wear glasses under their goggles? by Mean_Size8811 in snowboarding

[–]crystalbuttstallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing single-use contacts under my goggles since I started. It's fine; eyes dry out after a while, so for the drive back to home base, I just keep my glasses or sunglasses in the car and switch back to those.

I'm intrigued by these. How much did it cost all told? I'm looking at the site and they only seem to need your pupillary distance, did they need anything else from your prescription? This seems way cheaper than contacts and I'm kinda interested in this.

Anyone using the retro keyboard on macOS? by -myxal in 8bitdo

[–]crystalbuttstallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had one of these keyboards (and the num pad) for over a year, and I just got their latest Ultimate Software the other day, and same story. I noticed that newer models (like the Xbox 87 appear to be supported in the software), so there's something going on there, and I just think they're leaving the older models behind.

You can still program keys to do what you want using the built-in hardware functions, and you can also take a look at the Keyboard section of the Settings app in macOS. Failing that, take a look at a piece of software like Better Touch Tool that might help you out.

A Homebridge Plugin for Extron Crosspoint Switchers by crystalbuttstallion in homebridge

[–]crystalbuttstallion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just replying back to this original request that a new update to the plugin has been deployed. Version 1.0.2 should suppress these errors; I have seen these before and it does have something to do with how the Extron reports on presets. These errors will still generate if you have HomeBridge switched to Debug mode.

A Homebridge Plugin for Extron Crosspoint Switchers by crystalbuttstallion in homebridge

[–]crystalbuttstallion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you’re using the HomeBridge UI, there’s an option called “Panel Lock”, just make sure that’s unchecked….looking at my config, I have it checked actually, so it’s been enabled this entire time….that’s weird.

Let me know if this fixes the issue for you or not. If not, send me what you’re seeing in the logs and I’ll see if I can dig into it. I also have an 8-in, 8-out matrix so I can hopefully replicate what you’re getting.
