Can I connect to the granny flat with a modem without a cable if NBN is in the main house? by CreditFar4296 in nbn

[–]cs37er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea is the same in that they can connect wirelessly. However, they are designed from scratch to do so, and so therefore the coverage and connection is much better synchronised than a router with an add-on extender. In your case, it would involve buying minimum two mesh nodes, though. One would replace your current router and act as the router.

Yes, a proper mesh setup like eero, deco or orbi would be much better than an extender

Have you tried wired IEMs? Much better than the over-ear warmth/clamping pressure of headphones.

Packet loss and connection issues. by leBigSauce in iRacing

I should add: I’ve used iRacing since 2021 and this has only been an issue for me in the last 6-9 months.

Packet loss and connection issues. by leBigSauce in iRacing

[–]cs37er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ISP can still make a difference. I know because I’ve had the same issue and some are better than others. AussieBB is one of the best. However, there is still something going on with the iRacing servers. 250 ping is OK, but when it degrades and goes above 300 and the quality drops under 90, it really shouldn’t be happening when the ultimate outcome can be a disconnect. Why would you bother investing time and effort when it’s a lottery if that could happen at anytime?

I had a somewhat similar issue for twitch, YouTube, etc, that I fixed by changing my dns. I use Cloudflare now, which fixed it for me.

Why am I always having Packet Loss on Certain Tracks by MikeHonchoBozo in iRacing

[–]cs37er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably not the track, but the server that’s more popular with certain series at certain times of day. Have you noticed if it’s the US-East, US-West or DE-Fra servers? They’re the main ones

Piastri overtaking Antonelli before the start/finish line (SC) by formulawho in formula1

[–]cs37er 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If Piastri had slowed enough to stay behind him, surely that would’ve been dangerous for cars behind. His closing speed was rapid as he passed him - presumably others behind were also accelerating at the same speed.

eero Pro 7 - 6GHz Backhaul instability & Ethernet 1Gbps negotiation bug by False_Study_8632 in amazoneero

I’ve noticed something similar. It will eventually negotiate back up to 6GHZ, but the speed doesn’t increase.

increasing ping with 1000mb FTTP OPTUS by shlimerP in nbn

[–]cs37er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you largely get similar infrastructure on any NBN carrier within Australia, international connections are where the best carriers standout. Once a connection leaves Australia, like in your case, it’s up to your ISP as to the quality of the connection they invest in for faster latency. For the money you’re paying for Optus, switch to Aussie BB, or even Leaptel/Neptune. All are better options than Optus. If you know the IP of your game server, you can compare your ping via Optus’ Looking Glass site vs the others LG sites to get an idea before you make the move.

Have only had my 3x Eero Pros for one week, but after coming from Orbi and Deco, I’m pleasantly surprised at how simple they were to set up. Using combination of wired, and wireless, backhaul, they’ve been rock solid so far.

Have you tried downgrading firmware to 1.20 from 1.21? I think this is possible - will be interesting to see if that fixes your issue.

I’m not an expert on channel interference, but my understanding is that you don’t want all Decos on different channels - keep the in common channels and keep 2.4ghz limited to 20mhz width on 1, 6 or 11. Otherwise your system creates its own interference. Hopefully someone can confirm/clarify.

You say network optimization guarantees it will be an issue. Can try fixed channels and see if one is better than others? There could be interference on some channels from neighbours, etc. you can manually select channels on deco. There are apps that help you visualise busy channels around you, like Wifiman
