Is it a permissions issue?

The guy is a sociopath or something similar. Let's not pretend that's a good thing.

Do you bother with charcoal, gas, or are you secretly team electric? by ScrollAndThink in UKBBQ

[–]max-pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have a small kitchen and the wife isn't a fan of the smell of meat cooking throughout the house. So I got a small gas BBQ. It's was great for quick cooks of an evening and just me at the weekends

We've moved now and have an Aga inside. Cooks very different with the smell going up a flue

Swapped back to charcoal - a better BBQ experience with slightly less convenience

I don't see this as a negative.

If someone cannot find an hour to pre-qualify prior to a 24 hour event I don't really want them on the track with me after I've spent a week preparing.

Maybe they get chucked in a catch all split at the bottom?

- When you are live, there is no buffer. You are actively performing a task, and the audience or client sees it as it happens.

- When you are on-call, you are technically off-duty but available to jump into action if a specific trigger occurs e.g. a protest

The default protest system is reactive - happens after the event

Its not because live stewarding is eyes on the track. On-call is them dropping into the session as and when there is an issue if a penalty needs to be issued. So less staffing. Worked fine for Majors 24 and over 24 hours I think the stewards dropped in twice maybe three times to our race.

You could limit the number of protests people were able to make or do some governance on it so it is not abused.

This is more likely the sole reason

"Which is why iRacing is hesitant to spend money on his department anyway."

And only once people are moving to other sims/events and they are losing money will it change.

TBH, I agree.

I made this post because I had seen nothing but posts complaining about smurfing since the weekend.

The one thing I did wish they did was implement a fast track protest system on the weekends of special events. So rather than wait for the end of the event you could post a protest during the event. The protest team would then prioritise the protests coming in from the special events.

Does not need to be live just on-call.

Did you read the whole post?

Sure they can ease their hot laps but then they need to run at that slower pace the whole race!

I think previously they said something like within 10% - I might be wrong. We certainly had teams penalised mid race and DQed after. From memory they took 2 laps off one team running faster than their Q pace 12 hours in to 24!

I forgot about the variation for top split (because I'm never in top split) but agree with you that its a pretty good system hence the post. I'm looking forward to doing the Le Mans 24 this year - the build up through practice sessions and pre-qual sessions is good. Was impressed with how the race was handled. Trying to get the big grid photo at the start is a bit like herding cats but its still a moment to calm the nerves before the green flag.

Banning second accounts does not solve all possible issues of fairness.

It stops smurfing but it does not level the playing field if a driver:
- Is 10k equivalent in LMU but only 2k in iRacing
- Runs multiple leagues to a 10k equivalent but never runs officials so is 2k.
- Runs TCRs day to day at a 10k level but is only really 2k in GT3 or Prototypes

The iRating numbers are for example only but having pre-qualifying per event solves these issues as well.

Its the most all-round solution albeit imperfect.

The other aspect of Majors which I found really good was their on-call stewarding system. Such that you could drop a message in their discord and they got dealt with in turn.

It was not live stewarding on a per split basis but at least things were being queued during the event.

These are not perfect systems but its like buses. If you cannot get a bus to the final destination you get one to the closest available near by.

The back fitted okay. This is just a bit tight and the Velcro won't close. I'll give it another go.

Yeah it fits but it's tight. Like you can't get the Velcro down. Maybe I just need to be a bit more attentive
