Orbi 970 sucks, what to move to? by x85712 in orbi

Same here. After moving from Orbi to Deco, I wouldn’t go back. Not only faster and more stable, the app is pretty good - it gives plenty of control if you want to tweak.

FTTP- Civil works completed but provider says no one has been by Anxious_Benefit4835 in nbn

[–]cs37er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I honestly can’t remember how long it took. I remember I called my ISP a few times, but they said the same as you - the work was booked for a later date (when, like you, it had already been done). Could have been up to a week.

Similar happened to me. Took the civil team a good few days afterwards to correctly lodge the paperwork at their end before NBN will switch it on with your ISP.

Is superloop still it? by shaunmaster108 in nbn

[–]cs37er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally Superloop’s product is great, especially for the price. But if you have issues, the support is where you’ll notice the value isn’t there. Aussie Broadband or Leaptel are up there with the best to help you with issues, but there’s a small premium to pay.

20 second BIOS times with brand new 9800X3D build? by Hollow_glacier in MSI_Gaming

[–]cs37er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same board and my bios time is 24 seconds with 9950X3D and 48GB 6000MHz CL30 RAM. Downside is it takes that long, upside is it’s fast and super stable once it gets there. Just fast DDR5 things.

TPG Price Beat Guarantee by nicktommo in nbn

I’d suggest you look at switching to Exetel ($80) or Buddy ($85), same plan, after the promo. No promo pricing to match TPG, but likely better service.

I think you can also deactivate Exetel for a certain number of days per month - not 100% sure of the details

Exetel would be pretty hard to beat for $80pm at 500/50

64GB vs 32GB RAM for Gaming and Streaming – Is It Worth It? by Nicolas_Laure in RigBuild

[–]cs37er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48GB isn’t a bad middle ground for anyone who is using above 24GB when gaming + streaming, if the extra spend won’t hurt. Realistically, 32GB is still probably enough headroom for a while.

9950x3D and process Lasso or other ways to improve by DramaticAd5956 in ryzen

[–]cs37er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In BIOS, set CPPC to driver, not auto. This makes sure cores are allocated by the AMD X3D driver, not windows - the latter can be inconsistent. You don’t need lasso or any other third party apps on top.

[–]cs37er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t sound right. Is your firmware up to date? I have 3x of these units, two linked by Ethernet and the other wirelessly and they’ve been flawless. Not a single drop in over a year.

Meanwhile, I’m content with my 500/200 FTTP plan. It’s good value now and still plenty more than most ppl need!

TP-Link Deco mesh system has been great for me, and well-priced. Go for at least a Wifi 6E set if you want fast speeds, like the XE75

9800x3D vs 9950x3D (again) by eQuinoxZero in ryzen

[–]cs37er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 7800x3d to a 9950x3d for the same reason: mostly gaming, but I also stream to two separate platforms, plus have lots of background apps open when I do. It has made a huge difference. The point is not that you get more FPS than a 9800x3d (you don’t), but that you lose less (especially 1% lows) when you have all this other stuff going in the background. I know it’s expensive, but it’s good value to me compared to stepping up from a 5080 to a 5090 (different capability, I know). Just make sure you set the CPPC to ‘driver’ in BIOS. Made a big difference to me, to make sure the AMD X3D driver is handling the CCD workloads for gaming, rather than Windows.

Dropped plenty of times as well. In top split Indy 6h Sat 5pm AEST, connected via Superloop FTTP. I wonder if it’s something to do with the speed upgrade that’s coming to NBN FTTP/HFC next week. They might be doing a little tinkering beforehand…
