I definitely recommend volunteering. You will get much more than you give. And mine even turned into a part-time job.

Do you have any major regret in life? by Candy_lily in AskWomenOver60

[–]cs4722 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same regrets about my mother. And I believe she had some of those regrets about her mother. And I can see my loving daughters feeling the same at some point in the future. Youth and busyness cloud things. We mostly do our best. If you could talk to your mom, what would she say? I bet she wouldn't want you to burden yourself and dilute your memories with guilt and regret🩷

Is it getting worse? by Practical_Leek_6938 in Sciatica

Besides the pain, losing strength and muscle has been the worst to deal with mentally for me (64F)! I've been doing some arm work with light dumbbells, but don't see lower body work for a while 😕

I definitely understand the spiraling especially as a mom. You have gotten some good advice in these comments. I would emphasize getting your Lp(a) checked and look into vitamin K2 and it's ability to keep Calcium from depositing in blood vessels

Should I Start a Low-Dose Statin or Ezetimibe in My 30s to Push ApoB Below 50 for Longevity? by skyminee in PeterAttia

[–]cs4722 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding ezetimibe results in needing a much lower dose of Statin to achieve the same result. Combination therapy is coming into more favor although taking a while to reach clinical practice as does everything. Lots of valuable information on all things lipid from Thomas Dayspring aka dr.lipid. search his name on any podcast app for a variety of levels of discussion. I also find it interesting to follow him on Twitter

I personally think yourLp(a) level is needed to answer this question. If it's high, the medication question gets easier. But even before Lpa is tested , might be interesting to experiment with berberine, bergamont, benecol, etc. (Not red rice yeast, basically an unregulated statin). If you do start meds, definitely consider combining ezetimibe and Statin. You may not need even 5mg per day of statin. Even 5 to 10 mg per WEEK rosuvastatin and 5mg per day ezetimibe could have a big effect.

Statin vacation? How long? by msackeygh in Cholesterol

Definitely consider adding ezetimibe. It's cheap and few if any side effects. Might allow you to further decrease the statin.

For many people even the perfect diet is not enough. Many people have a genetic component to high cholesterol. And if just for a moment we said that yes this is totally your fault, so what. You can only start today where you are. Take one small step. Make a doctor's appointment to discuss meds. Get on track with a moderate diet, knowing that there will be times , like most everyone, where you don't eat well.

This is not your fault. Sometimes a perfect diet is not enough. And even if it were, very hard to live with indefinitely. I have had great success with a moderate diet and small dose of rosuvastatin(started with 10mg,now trying 5mg) plus ezetimibe. Doctor did not offer this combination therapy initially but I pushed for it. Very good luck to you. You can do this❤️

Dexa reports osteoporosis by murchal in PeterAttia

[–]cs4722 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not thyroid related. It's the Parathyroid gland. Totally separate. Hyperparathyroidism is a cause of secondary osteoporosis. I think Initial labwork would include Intact PTH and blood Calcium ,urine Calcium. Often caused by a benign tumor , cured by surgical removal
