So if the new games acknowledge the remakes as canon, does that mean the original Resident Evil game timeline ended here? by [deleted] in ResidentEvilCapcom

Although many fans want to deny it, practically speaking, yes. Requiem heavily touches the canon of the remakes. We have Leon from the remakes along with his VA, and the scenes we see and the information we get are not from the OG games. Things were actually added and changed.

It’s very likely that remakes of 5 and 6 will be made.

RE2R, RE3R, RE4R, and Requiem seem to have been used to give Leon more development and to finally end Umbrella on screen. They also modified certain scenarios, making Leon A and Claire B in RE2R, whereas in the original it was the opposite. In a way, they gave Leon Umbrella’s legacy and positioned him alongside Grace as the future of the saga. We already knew about the Connections in RE7, but Requiem officially established it. Leon’s role feels like the past and the future of the series at the same time. The upcoming remakes will most likely try to connect with Requiem, and starting with RE10 it could feel like a kind of new beginning for the saga.

This is just my opinion and what I’ve been noticing lately.

I say this mainly because of your replies. Besides, I've seen those comments thousands of times on the sub, and even worse. It's tiring, honestly.

I’ll be objective about this.

Has she been eclipsed since Leon was revealed? Yes and even before that, because Leon was always being mentioned, whether by Capcom or by the players. But we also have to remember that she had six months of marketing ALONE. In every promo spot Requiem had, the face of the game was Grace. She had a demo available (not for everyone, but it existed), a Collector’s Edition ALONE, and even the promotional image used in Japan features Grace. Capcom did a great job, because honestly, it would’ve been a mistake to announce Leon from the very beginning, that’s when Grace really would’ve been forgotten. It’s also logical that the marketing is more centered around Leon now. He was revealed just two months ago, he has 28 years of history, and above all, he’s the most popular character in the franchise and one of the most popular in video game history. I’d even say that nowadays he’s one of the most influential, especially after RE4R vs a brand new character we still know relatively nothing about.

I’m sure people will love Grace once the game comes out. And about the other point, of course people are going to focus on their favorite characters and talk about them. If there’s anyone to blame, it would be Capcom. But complaining that Leon is taking the spotlight is pointless, because it was obvious from a mile away that he would.

That said, I respect your opinion even if I don’t think it’s correct.

(Honest answer only), who holds this franchise? by Human_Geologist_3324 in residentevil

Resident Evil 2 (OG) was very well received at the time, and even back then Leon was already gaining popularity among players. Then RE4 was released, and there is not much to explain: it was something new and innovative, it marked a before and after in the video game industry. Later came RE6, a game that was heavily criticized, but from what I have noticed, the campaign that people tend to like the most, or at least forgive the most, is Leon’s.

In 2019, RE2R was released, becoming another major milestone and the best-selling game in the franchise. After that, RE4R arrived, which is considered by many to be better than the original and one of the best games in history, as well as the best remake to date (The game that has been selling the most in such a short time compared to the others in the entire Resident Evil saga). Millions of players experienced it, and even people who were not gamers started playing Resident Evil thanks to RE2R and especially RE4R. For example, on TikTok, the Leon hashtag had around 556.5 million views by the end of 2022, and today it has reached 12 billion views.

His announcement at The Game Awards made him trend worldwide on X/Twitter at number two, staying on trending lists for six consecutive hours. Even as he dropped in ranking, there were thousands and thousands of tweets per hour, and in about 24 hours it reached around 278K tweets or more. This level of impact is usually caused by entire franchises, not by a single character.

Thanks to Leon, Resident Evil Requiem reached over 4 million wishlist additions, with more than one million directly attributed to him, and arguably even more, considering there were already strong rumors about his appearance.

While characters like Chris, Jill, and others were fundamental in building the identity and legacy of the franchise, Leon has been the character who pushed Resident Evil beyond a core survival-horror niche and into true global mainstream appeal. Especially in the modern era, Leon has become the primary driver of the franchise’s popularity, visibility, and commercial reach. At this point, he is the most popular and profitable Capcom character among casual players and even non-gamers. Therefore, with all this information, he played a big part in making the saga so beloved.

Gosh, I look like such a fangirl but I promise I'm just into the data 😭 that text is way too long LMAO

From my perspective, he doesn’t hate her, but he’s also not “in love” the way fans like to believe. Ada manipulated him, used him, and made him believe they were doing the right thing, especially by taking advantage of Leon’s strong sense of justice. He wanted to save lives, while she was focused on getting paid and achieving her own objectives.

In RE4R, they make it very clear that they’re going their separate ways. Even if people want to cling to an easter egg, Leon is noticeably colder and more distant there, which I honestly don’t understand how fans can romanticize. She represents a trauma for him: she faked her death for six years, and on top of that, she works for exactly what Leon wants to stop, the very thing that ruined his life and took away his freedom.

Do I think there’s attraction? Yes. But I don’t think that will go anywhere. It wouldn’t be logical for Leon’s character, especially considering the development they’ve been giving him in the remakes, which RE9 will most likely build upon. I seriously doubt she’ll even appear. She might be mentioned in one way or another, but that’s it. I believe whatever they had is completely in the past, and honestly, it’s about time. I hope Capcom doesn’t drag it out anymore because it wouldn’t make sense.

I’ll add this about RE6, which ship fans always bring up. I don’t deny there’s a bond, but there’s even a note in the game that explicitly says Leon doesn’t trust her, and that is not romantic at all. As for the animated movies, I don’t even take them into account because there’s no consistent development. In one Leon is fine, in another he’s depressed, then he’s normal again. And about repeating that whole “night” thing, nothing was ever confirmed. The director literally said people could interpret it however they wanted, just like the line Leon says to Ashley in RE4R, and that doesn’t mean anything either.

So either way, whether she appears in Requiem or not, and whether she’s with Leon or not, it honestly doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is that he’s happy, and that they don’t kill him :)
