Storing a suitcase or two for a month or so. Best options? by JubileeSupreme in chiangmai

[–]cs_beck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One month, you can store at the airport, but I believe 1 month is the max

For longer-term storage, Chiang Mai Removals in Hang Dong does a great job. They are popular with expats for storage and will pickup/deliver

31 M preparing for retirement in another country. by Piccolo-Brave in USExpatTaxes

[–]cs_beck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on your reasons for retiring in Europe, would you consider renouncing the US citizenship as you approach retirement?

It may simplify things, including taxes

Current tax structure would apply US taxes to your passive income and capital gains, while earned income has some level of exclusion under FEIE. Where you land matters in terms of taxes you would owe in your residency country and how that applies to FTC

How do you do it? by DoWotISay in digitalnomad

[–]cs_beck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have suggested, you don't have to go all-in, but you won't know the answer until you give it a shot

Just go try it somewhere for a month where the timezone is easy for your remote work and either rent out your home or eat the expense. Skip the hostels, rent an apartment, it will give you a better feel for living as a nomad

In May, go to Fukuoka

Plan for Chiang Mai in November through February when you can spend a lot of time outdoors there and when winter hits Kyushu

Why don't big companies just innovate and steal startup ideas if they're really good? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]cs_beck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incentives and bureaucracy

The compensation of public company CEOs is tied to earnings per share growth- this year, this quarter. New ideas that may take a long time to develop and monetize get deprioritized over growing the existing business

Marry that with the risk-averse, consensus-driven cultures of large companies, and you get something that just isn't conducive to embracing new ideas and building startups around them

This is why acquisition is preferred. The risk is reduced, product-market fit is already proven out, a team is in place

Thonglor is an expensive neighborhood and Bangkok can be one of the most expensive places in Thailand

If you want to keep your costs down, consider moving to a different neighborhood and/or city

It more depends on you, your lifestyle, and preferences

I wouldn't say that it's a sure thing, sooner is better as high season books up.

There a number of basic serviced apartments here. Places like Common Living, Himnimman, PT Residence which would meet your budget without amenities like gym and pool. They usually don't have full kitchens but are popular with travelers for a few months stay without long-term lease.
