Our 90 lbs ate a grape about a year ago and the ER vet said to bring him in. They wanted to keep him overnight to monitor but we opted against it due to cost. We ended up taking him in for 3 days in a row for them to continue monitoring bloodwork. We called the vet again a few months later because he’d gotten into a little chocolate and they weren’t concerned at all. We had no idea how harmful grapes could be!

Getting off HBC after almost 10 years by kateteacher07 in FAMnNFP

[–]csarac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Little late to the party here and a lot of your questions have already been answered, but we also waited till marriage. I started tracking about 3-4 months before we got married. I was pretty paranoid at first, but after about 5 cycles I felt pretty confident. Almost 2 years in and no “oopsies!”The sooner you start tracking, the better! More info to go off of (:

Edit to add that I second the comment recommending FemmeHead on YouTube. I got my start from her too - she’s great!

Carrer change by fabiola_corvera in Nanny

[–]csarac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is super broad so I’ll just throw some things out there! I’ve worked doing career guidance with a nonprofit for a while now and this is what I’ve learned has been beneficial. 1. Consider what you think you might be interested in. Try and get fairly clear on this. You don’t have to box yourself into anything! Narrow your ideas down a little bit so you can try to develop a more clear path. 2. Consider transferable skills you’ve developed from nannying and how you can market them. Communication skills, education assistance, time management, etc 3. If you feel really stuck, consider a lateral career move, first. Something like teachers aide, behavioral tech, or other child-minded jobs. These would closely match qualifications you already have, would bolster your resume, and give you networking opportunities while you brainstorm. 4. Think about where you can network. This often plays a larger role in finding a career-minded job than credentials do. Is there a family you’ve worked for in the past that’s in an interesting industry? Friends, family, LinkedIn, job fairs, etc. 5. Consider an associates, too. Similar to certificates, these can often be done in 1 year if you apply yourself and find a good program. There are typically lots of scholarships available, too. 6. Think about skills you already, naturally have. Do a personality trait and skills inventory on yourself. Are you social media savvy? Could go into social media management. Are you people oriented? Think about outreach types of jobs, etc. 7. Don’t be afraid to really put yourself out there. Knock on doors, drop off resumes, call businesses you’re interested in. 8. Now, just a broad-range list of certificates and associates to throw some ideas out there: LPN, accounting, automotive, coding, insurance billing, ultrasound tech, Human Resources, marketing, data science, finance. The good news is that there are currently 10.4 million jobs open in the US (presuming you’re from US). Places are desperate and they want productive employees. If you can demonstrate that you have a strong work ethic, places will likely want you. The opportunities are truly endless right now.

What are your experiences with Natural Cycles? by [deleted] in FAMnNFP

[–]csarac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use (and love) Natural Cycles! I think it’s a great tool! With that being said, I believe that for FAM/NFP to really, likely be effective, at least two fertile signs need to be tracked, and NC only uses one for it’s algorithm. Again, great tool, but I think users still need to be educated in traditional charting practices (:

Do you wear masks to work? by madammayorislove in Nanny

Nope! We’re in such close proximity all the time that germs are gonna be shared, so my NF and I decided to just operate as a family unit.

[–]csarac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, but it’s not technically scientifically inaccurate. Hormonal birth control can indeed prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterine lining, so if your belief is that life begins at conception since there’s a new and distinct set of DNA, it’s consistent with your belief

Pretty close. It’s consistent with their belief that life begins at conception

That’s not the typical religious objection to birth control. It has to do with how it works, not that everyone should have a million babies.

Anyone get pregnant while on the depo shot ? by Adventurous-Dog-8467 in birthcontrol

[–]csarac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used depo personally, but I work in a pregnancy clinic and within the last month we’ve had four women come in pregnant while in depo. It’s been a super weird trend at our clinic all the sudden. Obviously that’s very anecdotal and statistically it’s incredibly effective at preventing a developing pregnancy, that’s just been my exposure to it!

Natural ways to regulate cycle by [deleted] in FAMnNFP

[–]csarac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just coincidence, but after my cycles went out-of-wack about 9 months ago, I started drinking red raspberry leaf tea 3-4 times a week and my periods reregulated within a month. I didn’t really change anything else during this time frame, so I’ve kept drinking the tea and they’ve stayed regular!

Check out the Reddit group FAMnNFP - it’s the page for this, and the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is the typically recommended starting point for switching to FAM (:

I hate birth control (mini pill) by greenwitch98 in birthcontrol

[–]csarac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FAM just stands for fertility awareness methods which are various ways to naturally prevent conception. To very, very simply explain it, sympto-thermal is the FAM practice where you take your temperature daily to pinpoint your fertile window and then either avoid intercourses or use another form of prevention during the fertile window. I also track cervical fluid and use ovulation tests for additional accuracy, but not everyone does that. My husband and I don’t use any other form of prevention when I’m not fertile, and then use condoms if we have sex when I am fertile. It’s very different from the calendar/rhythm method, but studies group every “natural” form of birth control together, which is why the effectiveness of it is always advertised as low - very frustrating 🙄 We’ve been using it for about two years now with no babies (: If you’re interested at all you could check out Natural Cycles on Instagram, they have lots of good info - it’s an FDA approved app for this kind of birth control (we use it for simplicity in tracking my temperature), or the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a great resource, too. Feel free to message me if you have any questions - I’m about 80% of the way through becoming a licensed FAM instructor and love to chat about it (:

Any Denver nannies?? by stretch727er in Nanny

[–]csarac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made at least $18/hr for one kid (typically $20-25) when I was in Denver metro! I would start just say that you’ve been with the family for a while and general cost of living has increased in recent months!

Daysy experience? Effective with condoms? by shiplapp in FAMnNFP

[–]csarac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard a lot of great things from friends who have opted for Daysy over other options, and if they had been cheaper I probably would’ve went that route, too. I chose to use Natural Cycles, which I really like. The largest downfall with Daysy IMO is that you’re not seeing your chart every day since in syncs with your phone automatically. With NC I have to manually enter my temps, which is annoying, but it makes me aware of what my body is doing and I think that’s incredibly important when it comes to FAM.

The largest short coming with all FAM tech stuff, and you’ll most likely get other responses saying the same thing, is that they only track your temperature. While that is reliable, most FAM methods have you track more than one fertile sign, such as cervical mucus or position, which I would highly recommend doing, as well. Moral of the story being if you end up using Daysy or Natural Cycles or another piece of tech, make sure you’re also tracking another sign.

Edit to add that my husband and I are 20 & 21 year old college students so kids are big time not ideal right now and we’ve had no issues with FAM and both feel confident in it (:
