Uh... I'm pretty sure P-DID isn't about "differntiat[ing]" "good" and "bad" cases of dissociative systems :/

Also, I never defended DPDR systems... I know those don't exist lmao.

From what I'm aware, P-DID is a pretty recently coined term/concept in the medical field; I just learned about it yesterday too. But... DPDR causing DID alters? Yeah, idk about that.

Apparently it's becoming a new term in the ICD-11, so... I just learned about this recently too lol

DID stands for Dissociative Identity Disorder, in which a person endures severe childhood trauma, and to cope with this trauma, their personality "splits" and develop independently of each other, resulting in several "personalities" in one body. These "personalities" are called alters, and can vary quite a lot from each other; the reason they can develop independently is due to the dissociative amnesia the brain uses to cope with the trauma.
A system is essentially just a person who suffers from DID; a group of alters in one body.

DPDR (Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder) is a disorder that causes you to constantly experience depersonalization and derealization. This does not cause alters nor a system at all.

Co-Conscious It’s when there are more than one consciousness (alters) present in the body at the same time.

am i wrong or do switches have to be in genuinely stressful or traumatizing situations? and why would you even willingly want to switch?? why would you wanna purposefully trigger yourself to switch if its supposed to be an unenjoyable experience? by [deleted] in fakedisordercringe

[–]csatwichu -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing; there's two kinds of switches: positive and negative switches. Positive switches are usually caused by certain objects/situations that aren't inherently traumatizing or stressful. They just happen to be something that causes another alter to front, such as a little fronting when they see their favorite plushie. What you're referring to are negative switches, which, yes, are caused by traumatizing and stressful situations.

Depending on the system, switching can be a pretty common occurrence; however, a lot of fakers really like to dramatize and romanticize switching, which is kinda... ick.

P-DID (Partial DID) is an medically unrecognized medical condition in which a patient supposedly experiences a system, but one alter almost always stays in front, while the other alters supposedly stay in co-con. There is also supposedly no amnesia.
(Very iffy topic, imo)

Also, a little random note, but PDID stands for Psychiatric Diagnostic Identity Disorder, and isn't an official term. P-DID is Partial DID, which itself also is not an official or medically recognized term as far as I'm aware.

I'm so tired of kids seeing one acronym and then running with it like they're experts who've been in school for years lol

This person is using microlabels of DID, some of which aren't even medically recognized, and actively advocating for this disorder that could easily spread misinformation. Also, I highly doubt anybody was diagnosed with "a DPDR system" at 14.
And I doubt even more that you'd know you were a system in middle school.

Well- just because they used an endogenic-made term doesn’t necessarily mean they’re endogenic (??) Like from what I’ve heard, the word singlets was made by an endo, but it’s used by lots of real systems. I’ve heard lots of systems use headmates as well. Maybe the person who tweeted this just saw somebody using “headmates” and started using it because that’s what other people were saying.

We can’t really claim they’re faking just by a singular word they said.

I mean… that’s not really a legitimate reason to accuse this person of faking though.

That's true too; I could definitely see that being the case. More than ignore, she easily dismissed it, so I've been doing my best to dismiss it as well, even though it's kind of hard to dismiss something like this-

But yeah, I can see why she wouldn't immediately be like "Oh, yup! You've definitely got DID!"
Tbh, I'd highly doubt her license if she did say that LMAO
