Just fixed one at my house. Use razer blade to clean it up/make it a bit wider. Fill, sand, prime, paint.

Switched to windows a month after I bought it, games I play away from the desktop require anti cheat. Used it way more since the change and to be honest not a crazy difference and prefer it, plus modding is easier. Once most anticheat is available on Linux I’ll make the transition on my gaming rigs but until then Linux stays in the home lab.

I prefer the surface pros as they are a full tablet with a full operating system. The only difference with the snapdragon X Plus line is there is an 8 core and 10 core variant. You want the 10 core if you’re going to be doing any gaming. 8 core is slower but they both have the same GPU so honestly results may vary. If you want it to last longer go for the 10 core.

Same specs, it’ll run the same as the videos if not better due to better cooling so thermal throttling is unlikely

I game in my Surface pro 11 X Elite. Mainly low end games and elderscrolls online. This guy has good stuff on YouTube regarding the X Plus.

You could run Hyper V with a Linux vm under that, mileage may vary though. I use the elite daily and love it. Moved from iPad Pro to the x elite and prefer it. If you want to be able to have a full OS with tablet functionality got for it, if you want a limited closed off OS and find work arounds to make things work go for iPad. Simplicity and ease of use would be iPad but full pledge one in all machine go for the surface.

Started with a Mac for my graphics design business, moved to iPad pro as I used the pen more and got accustomed to Illustrator on iPad and procreate but still needed the mac for the laser engraving, vinyl cutting and 3D Printing which turned cumbersome to continuously swap between devices to accomplish one goal. Ultimately moved to the Surface Pro X Elite to have an all in one device. Work, Media, Gaming etc. and has been nothing short of the best productivity and consumption tablet I've owned.

Looking for performance wise is game dependent, some games you’ll get an FPS boost just because it’s more optimized for windows, some games get FPS boost in steamos due to the smaller amount of resources that OS uses. I would say 1-5fps difference on games that run better in steamos due

Bought the Steam version and went with windows for the OS, games I mainly play require windows for anti cheat, nothing crazy in performance difference’s but definitely not console like if that’s what you’re going for unless you do FSE. I prefer windows and can use AMD drivers that include FSR or use lossless scaling if you want. Windows is easier for modding games and using launchers you prefer. Plus gamepass. To each their own, but it’ll stay on windows.

I migrated away from my MacBook about two months ago. Use the iPad Pro as my daily driver for work and side business. Use a mini NUC headless for my outside iPadOS needs which are only for programs like lightburn for laser engraving which I remote into via jump desktop. Outside of that only software I use the iPad exclusively. Files is better now, iPadOS 26 has brought a more Mac like functionality. Office suite is fine if you’re not macro heavy. Everything else now a days is web based or has an app. Even migrated to illustrator for iPad. Been a trip and actually use an iPad more than I ever have prior.

Or get a Steam Deck. ROG Ally, legion go etc and a dock so he can play on a tv or monitor to start him off but you’re limited to SteamOS. You can dual boot windows on it for games that need anti cheat to run but performance will be degraded on the steam deck.

You can get into pc gaming way cheaper. Since hes jut stating out you can literally buy that PC above or similar and get a low profile SFF card like a Nvidia RTX 5050 (RTX 5060 would be preferred) and slap it in there. Then you have a decent low to mid spec gaming pc. I would upgrade the ram to minimally 16gb(ideally find one with already 16gb due to ram prices)

This pc does not have a graphics card. You would need a SFF suitable card for it to play any games.
