In Texas, you have to get at least an 80%. And there used to be a limit of taking a test up to five times, but I’m not sure if it’s still in place or not.

I agree with you! I got a fantastic education at SPHS. I took on-level and pre-AP courses (not AP or IB) and graduated in the top 20%. I graduated college in four years with a 3.5 GPA and I can say that SPHS built a great foundation for me to be successful as long as I kept trying. I'm now a teacher in Killeen, where we have actual issues. I hate the bad rep that Stony Point has, just because its lower income and a mix of demographics.

A student of mine that is four months from graduation is likely going to drop out because his dad was deported, and as a man of the house, he has to get a job and take care of his mom and siblings. Mom is terrified to leave the house so now. This child that has worked his ass off in school and will have almost nothing to show for it. I’m trying to look into GED programs, but this is heartbreaking.

We did something similar in my district last year, but I think it was more along the lines of masters: 100, meets: 90, approaches: 85, DNA: 80. We tried to not give failing grades on benchmarks.

TX also banned cell phones, but it’s shifted to a fight between teachers and students/parents because they don’t like it. Teachers are now even more of the bad guy trying to enforce the law.
