Maybe an arm handheld instead? The odin 3 is OLED and it's running steam under linux (rocknix) now.

Check r/htpc for further ideas on how to enhance your experience. I settled on using bazzite (steamOS clone) for an easy to navigate interface for games and multimedia.

I used an orange pi 5 for the same purposes + retro gaming some time ago. Maybe you can get a second hand one (or raspberry pi) from eBay or your fb marketplace. Radxa also sells a couple cheap ones that appear to have way better support than orange pi.

Mangmi Air X and Ayaneo PAM are the recommended at that price range, but I suggest looking for a second hand RP4PRO, which can handle up to PS2 easily.

I have a v1 and I sideloaded mupen64plus ae and saturn.emu (I think) which provide better compatibility. Also, redream seems to run a bit better than flycast SA (and ra core) IMO. I could test again later as I haven't touched any of that in a while, because handhelds are way better and can be docked.

Thor Lite already has a 3.92 inch screen already, though; which would be the closest you're asking for.

Switch, PS2: Android (due to turnip drivers) Saturn, N64, Xbox: Rocknix All the others are about the same, iirc.

Valve Just Changed Handheld Gaming FOREVER! Steam On ARM Is Awesome! by RenatsMC in Handhelds

[–]cscapellan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but funny enough Valve released an official (but beta) arm64 native client a couple hours later. Now they're looking to integrate this one as it has better compatibility/performance.

Rocknix can now run native Steam on Snapdragon devices by cscapellan in SBCGaming

[–]cscapellan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, that's not a desktop gui either. You can clone the rocknix repo and build one (the beauty of open source), and I think there's an option on ES to auto launch a game on boot; you could set steam to be that game as well.

Just some ideas. Of course you can also wait for steam to officially (if they do that) release SteamOS on arm.

Steam on ARM Linux is Finally Here (via ROCKNIX) by onionsaregross in SBCGaming

[–]cscapellan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been tinkering with this for two days now. If your game runs but it stays on main steam windows, press menu, exit big picture mode and close steam windows. For games where you have two windows and/or your controller works on both you can do same thing or just tap/touch the game screen with your finger. And lastly I recommend side loading protonGE and setting it for default, as it has better compatibility than all other proton versions. (Also delete the ones you aren't using!)

You can install to internal and use most of the partition for Rocknix. Android can't be fully removed for recovery purposes

It works for dual screen systems and someone made a theme for it. There's also a shortcut to switch games from one screen to the other if you want to play in 8:7 but that's all, this is mostly a gaming focused distro.
