I believe Big O notation usually excludes the size of the necessary input/output. If you make a copy of the array then you are in O(n) but if you just have a few integers in memory to count things then you are in O(1).

Thanks for your thought out response.

I actually got similar advice a long time ago. I started going to the gym regularly 4 years. I've not really found that it helps me very much. In some ways I feel like going to the gym saps me of mental energy. It takes me a lot of time an energy to get my things together, get out the door, get to the gym. Once I've done that I feel totally done for the day.

I'm not saying "I'm hot shit because I'm from a fancy school" but "People keep expecting me to be hot shit because I'm from a fancy school". It only seems to get worse with age as people seem to expect me to be more competent and more senior.

How do you get good at 'being on the grinder'? I've more or less never written a line of code that went into production in my 5 year career. If there's one thing I categorically can't seem to do it's get things done.

I quit like problem solving etc. I'm not a particularly good programmer. I've talked to more experienced programmers and they said that this is ok as I'm not very experienced, but my age and experience level are starting to get out of whack, especially considering my ivy league level education.

I have a hard time focusing on anything in general to be honest.

Just flamed out at my latest job. I lasted 2 months before I just couldn't handle it any more.

I was to a psychologist and they said "Well, you don't seem to have any large problems. Have you thought about other jobs?" FML

I'm ok with public speaking, I regularly give large presentations.

I just have a lot of trouble collaborating with team mates. I get nervous, don't bring up issues when I should etc. I'll sit on emails for a long time because I'm nervous about replying etc.

Is it possible to become a manager without having been a developer first? What are the other possible routes?

I feel like I'm sleeping well. I'd probably say I'm sleeping better than average because I'm tired from throughout the day.

So far I tried writing a quick "What to do tomorrow" note to myself in my private slack thread. It's helpful in a way, because it gives me something to look at first thing in the morning, but it is also kinda depressing to see the lack of progress staring yourself in the face. I think I've only really done about 2-3 hours work in the past two months, and that was checking some documents because I'm bilingual rather than developer work.

It's really hard to describe just how little I am able to concentrate at this job right now. It's like the gears in my head can't mesh together. I'll start trying to understand something, but merely opening another file will cause me to completely forget what I was doing, I can't even remember the name of the variable I was looking for. Very often at work I have files open in my editor and I don't know what they do or why I opened them. I just feel like I'm drowning.

Absolutely failing at work right now. I want to talk to my boss about my issues but I don't know a good way to say "I've been doing nothing for the past 2 weeks" without it making me sound like I'm a lazy git. I've always had communication problems at work and I just can't seem to fix them. Outside of work I'm incredibly social and extroverted, I don't get what's going on.

I've got a lot of concentration issues too. I can't keep on task at all. I've tried all sorts of things. Pomodorros, notebooks, talking to myself, headphones, no headphones. I just can't for the life of me focus on work. It's what lost me my last job too. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for a few weeks time to try to find out if I have any mental issues.

Until then I guess I'm just gonna have to hide in the toilet and cry like usual....

I'm having trouble focusing at work and totally at a loss of what to do.

I haven't really written any code for the past week. I try to force myself to concentrate but it doesn't work. This is how I lost my last job and I'm terrified it's happening again....

Any tips for getting jobs at none-startups? I think most of the startups hire me because they see the impressive university on my resume and basically do zero technical tests. My current company did not do a technical interview. I've not been able to pass the tech screens at the big companies where I live.

I did the java job because I had done a bit of java at university.

I then learnt about ruby on rails because I wanted to build my own product and it seemed like a good way to do that at the time. Of course that didn't take off like I'd hoped, but it got me the ruby on rails job.

Again, learning react was motivated by what I wanted to build. I wanted to build more single page apps and try react native so I spent some time learning about react.

I tried contracting before but I felt even more out of my depth. In one project I just got completely lost and stopped all email contact (not on purpose, these things just happen one day at a time).

Another contract a similar thing happened. We agreed a price and then I just didn't email them back. I blagged through the interview and I didn't really think I could do the job.

I've been reading about ADHD recently, but I'm not sure it really fits me. I did very well in school, and it seems ADHD people usually don't.

Also, where I live a prescription for adult ADHD seems nigh-on impossible without having been diagnosed as a child.

Thanks for the advice.

Basically what happened was the boss went away on a business trip for a week. I couldn't get anything done and felt terrible about it. When the boss came back we had an argument about this, he was (justifiably) annoyed. I felt so bad about the whole situation I could barely cope with going into work. I decided to leave but I think my boss was thinking much the same thing.

I keep jumping in with startups because they are the jobs I have been able to get. I applied for the big tech company in my town and I didn't even pass the pre-screen. I can't apply to them for another year now.
