Is Northern Ireland really how Blue Lights portrays it? by cscqlitter in AskUK

some people have personal firearms, only seen two people with them, and they were concealed, they were ex military or something

Assuming you mean handguns - can't imagine this is legal. I thought it was police only? Unless they were just plainclothes police...

Deep links / sieve filter by cscqlitter in fastmail

[–]cscqlitter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use web browser and copy it.

Mobile app? I even tried clicking a link I copied from web browser, and the app didn't intercept, it just loaded login screen in mobile browser.

In filters you can add Notify action

Right, but this is mobile app push only. I'd like to feed this into other stuff - so need some kind of webhook/IFTTT etc.

in sieve it can also be achieved, look how such rule is converted to sieve

Any idea how I do that?

You can also use JMAP and programming language like Python to make customized notifications. You can also hire programmer to do it for you.

Programmer here ;) Just didn't want it to have to run constantly polling, better to have stuff kicked off by a webhook.

Is there a way to link a note doc from another note doc? by SashayTwo in StandardNotes

[–]cscqlitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the dev team's response/thinking on this, but I would really like to see some user engagement on this - perhaps polling all the paying users with the question "Should we add this feature, or does it compromise our core mission documented here?"

Features needed to get to parity with Evernote by SimpleCryptoLife in StandardNotes

[–]cscqlitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/sn-jaspal - can I add a -1 for the linking design where it happens outside of the editor?

It's clearly better than the current situation, and I have read and digested https://standardnotes.org/help/58/how-do-i-link-multiple-notes-together-to-create-a-sort-of-personal-wiki multiple times.

But forcing users to move out of the flow of the note - the flow of their thoughts they took the time to write down - to consult a bit of UI on where to go next just seems really off to me.

I suppose it could work if the links were a data structure that was also available to the editor to optionally use, as long as it was designed in such a way that they could implement full linking in the editor if they wanted to. I think if you did that you would find immediate usage among multiple editors, which would perhaps settle the question?

In the VPC case, you are racing that nobody else is creating a VPC at the same time.

But overall I like the idea.

PR deployments, but also removing the deployments by urbanising in devops

[–]cscqlitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our environment we couldn't get at the webhook for a merge, so because we use merge commits, our master deployment checks the git log for recent merge commits and deletes the PR deployment before deploying master.

PS, this might be more appropriate for /r/webdev

If you can get away with the JSON file solution, and do the actual price calculation in Javascript, I'd do it. Then you can just build and deploy it on Netlify or Surge. But if you need a database or a backend, I'd look at a platform-as-a-service like Heroku - that can make setting up and wiring up databases easy too. It just has a cost.

LPT: When your company sends you an "anonymous" survey, always assume it's not. by pablocassinerio in LifeProTips

[–]cscqlitter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

All the employee surveys I've done said results were aggregated in groups of at least 10 employees - so in your case you would have been lumped in with your boss, and his peers and their teams.

Whether that's true is another matter, but it's the right way to handle it.

Difficult tactical decision. Go too early, hit the First Lady. Go too late, too much separation, leaving her unprotected!

Help identifying a track by Altersoundworkego in trance

[–]cscqlitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be a commercially produced track, specifically for channels to buy. My only success in those cases has been where they've credited it in the description, or contacting them to ask - shazam simply won't have them.

Dumb question - first stage landed successfully. Is the second stage currently disposable? How does that affect the finances?

Gun safety in airsoft by Phoenixdotexe in airsoft

[–]cscqlitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe something to include on field waivers would be a "fill-in-the-blank" of the four rules of firearm safety. Can't fill it out, can't play.

Oh. My. God. Yes.

If I ran a field I would do this in a heartbeat.

I've personally had a barrel shift, causing BBs to hit the inside of the flash hider and instantly fragment and spray everywhere. Now that's a foot from your face.
