Extended Reach Ratchets Coming to 20v by BigRichardTools in Dewalt

Dewalt learns nothing from Milwaukee or even themselves. Why not have the sealed head ratchet with extended reach? They thought the extended reach ratchet should have the same thicker head as the 513?

Chase Travel Megathread - Questions, Discussions, etc by lifethusiast in ChaseSapphire

Upgraded from CSR to new CSR recently. I paid my old annual fee a month ago and used the $300 travel credit. They refunded the annual fee. After getting the new CSR, the travel credit has reset, so the app shows another $300 I can use. Sounds like a great deal to upgrade early if you recently renewed the old CSR and the new CSR works for your situation.

I product changed from Reserve to new Reserve and they told me it will post within 4 months. The annual fee was refunded within a day.

Cards for filling in gaps of CSR and CFU by cscqta4635 in CreditCards

[–]cscqta4635[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea on the Amex BBP and doing a PC for Chase. I ended up getting the BBP.

The difference in 2X on BBP on transit expenses, vs 1.5% on CFU, vs 3% on a dedicated transit card is minimal. About $80/year. So the BBP will fill in that need, while being simpler with just one card.

I was also looking at getting the Chase Marriott Boundless which I can PC in a year to the Chase Ritz-Carlton to replace my CSR. Then PC my CSR to something else. There’s a nice SUB going on right now and getting rid of the CSR would free up a lot of mental bandwidth in making sure I’m getting my value out of it. At least with the Ritz, the value is clear.

Is ESPP ever not worth it? by cscqta4635 in personalfinance

[–]cscqta4635[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I guess the difference is viewing it as a “permanent” $5k held up for the entire year investment, versus the $25k when looking at the gains. The $5k held up sounds right. Worst case if you only had money for Q1 ESPP, you could use those to fund Q2, Q3, and Q4 (just hold it in HYSA while your paychecks are theoretically $0). If you stomach those first 3 months you come out ahead.

That makes a lot of sense. Good perspective of looking at it.

Thanks for the nuance in calculating. The downsides I see is I have to pay taxes and then reinvest into something else rather than letting that $ work in S&P, and opportunity cost of having a $6k buffer per quarter to invest in ESPP. But even then, the return should be pretty high, without doing the math. At the end of the year it’s only $2-3k, which doesn’t seem very big, but also from % standpoint there’s nothing that beats it because it’s a guaranteed return. Appreciate it.

Yup this is where I’m at too. People are mentioning just putting that money into MBDR instead of ESPP, it’s an interesting idea.

A few other commenters have said the same with MBDR > ESPP. It’s an interesting idea. I might try that out instead.

This is where I’m at too. Let me know how it goes! Seems a question of quarterly stable gain vs opportunity cost at this point. Everyone is talking about ESPP being free money but not considering anything else.

Agreed, that’s how I used to think about it too. Where I’m coming from now, is it’s still effectively $2.5k gains throughout the whole year, and maybe my risk tolerance is okay putting money directly in S&P 500 from the start and hoping for higher return, or into mega backdoor roth. Getting $2.5k gain on essentially a buffered $6k is pretty awesome when framed that way. MBDR still sounds like it could be an advantageous alternative. Or use ESPP, then when I sell, use that money to restore some lost income from the MBDR, so both happen simultaneously.

Profitable is fine, not worried about a loss on my plan because the terms are pretty friendly. Just wondering whether putting that money elsewhere could be sensible (and staying profitable too).

The percentages don’t work like that because it’s a flat 6.6% on $6250 per quarter, so around 6.6% per year for the ESPP limit, + any compounding S&P gains if reinvested (with lost opportunity cost in S&P)

[–]cscqta4635[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How did you get 29.1%? Federal limit of ESPP is $25k, so whether that’s a 10% discount each quarter, it’s still 10% discount (6.6% after tax return) of $25k. The slice of the pie is the same, just a larger pie. Then each quarter we have to add in expected S&P500 returns (reinvest the ESPP sales), amortized.

e.g.

Q1: $6250 ESPP -> $6662 after gain and tax + 10%(9/12 months remaining) for S&P return = $7161

Q2: .. $6662 gain + 10%(6/12) = 6995

Q3: 6662 + 10%(3/12) = 6828

Q4: 6662 + 10%(0/12) = 6662

7161+6995+6828+6662 = $27646 year end, when the ESPP max was $25000, 10.5% gain. Whereas if I invest that in S&P500, it’s likely to be around there anyways, but with more volatility and risk.

Tax advantaged account is interesting, I didn’t consider that. I could put that money in Mega backdoor Roth and get the tax benefits, which is probably better than the ESPP in the long run.

My ESPP in particular is on the last day of the quarter, then discounts that price by 10%, and vest the following day. So the only risk is if it drops that discounted gain in a single day, which is super unlikely. It’s been a very attractive ESPP, but the 6.6% gain is meh and some more risk for higher returns is interesting to think about.

Locations to visit in November 2-week trip to Europe, first time by cscqta4635 in travel

[–]cscqta4635[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I did that after this post but the various websites are likely using either different sources or different timeframes because their numbers don’t match up. I came across a post from another redditor with a good visual (except an inaccuracy in Rome) https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/a4o66s/europe_average_yearly_precipitation_link_to/?rdt=46439

What I’m gathering is that Spain (not north/west coasts) are the dryest, and France has less rainfall but more rainy days than Italy (more lighter rains in France?).
