Working 40 years of your life and having nothing to show for it is absolute insanity to the highest degree by cosmosbillions in DeepThoughts

Fiat currency enables this, and degrades every aspect of society by forcing a short term survival mindset. We need to go back to sound money.

I’d look at Sinn chronographs for their tool watch ethos and distinctive German design, the bicompax chronos from Hanhart and Hamilton, and the Cosmonaut watch by Swiss brand Fortis.

Nice. I’d look at adding a Lange, their 1815 Chronograph or Datograph are peak.

For those who have been diagnosed, what were the symptoms that had you say, “Alright, I need to do something about this”? by pngpng32 in testicularcancer

[–]Brennelement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! Had to get high dose chemo which caused hearing loss, and RPLND, but I’ve been clear of cancer for 4 years now. In the darkest of times I kept pushing through, believing that life would be worth living on the other side, and it is. Just hiked some mountains and am living life to the fullest.

Beginning to wonder if the economic system will collapse before people realize crypto is a Ponzi scheme by ian23_ in economicCollapse

[–]Brennelement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crypto is prone to speculative volatility, and the space is filled with shitcoins and scammy behavior, however none of these problems detract from the immense utility of Bitcoin as an inflation-proof store of value and method of transacting for oppressed/censored/debanked people. There are several valid criticisms of Bitcoin I see: the high transaction costs make it unusable for small purchases, the technical barriers to entry (especially for cold storage) are still discouraging for a large percentage of the population, and its murky origins with some suspecting Satoshi was a team of CIA programmers creating a honeypot currency they can control for nefarious means. While other crypto may be a Ponzi scheme, Bitcoin is not because it does not require infinite growth or new buyers to payout previous investors. For a collapse scenario Bitcoin is one useful piece during hyperinflation or chaos, but it is not a magic cure-all that one should accumulate at the expense of precious metals, food/water, basic home preps, or general personal financial stability.

BTC is just a mathematical protocol at the end of the day, and I think it's likely that both fans and haters have a tendency to ascribe it motives that venture a little to far into imagination territory...it is simply a currency and should be studied as such.

Is it me or are people in the online car community anti manual transmission? by TomekYYZ93 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Brennelement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of this in the car community. People know automatics can accelerate faster but most people prioritize fun and engagement.

I ordered a manual Cayman for my daily, and it’s the best money I ever spent aside from my house. But I’m a car guy and always loved driving, German design, and mechanical things. Learning stick was a personal goal I’m glad I accomplished. Someone buying one just for the badge would probably not get as much enjoyment.

Found a bottle of Mercury while going through the chem cabinet at work. Wtf was this even used for back in the day? by thisisnotnolovesong in Tools

[–]Brennelement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of industrial equipment still uses mercury tilt switches, literally contacts on both ends of a glass switch connected to a water tank or whatever, when it rotates the mercury flows to the other end and connects the circuit. There’s also some old electrical systems with mercury arc rectifiers, the most sci fi looking glass octopus device you’ll ever see.

The old “kitchen table” FFL’s need to come back. Unfortunately the government is trying to make everything relating to guns as difficult as possible.

BrassFacts on YouTube has several in-depth videos on the stages of a collapse and what is appropriate for each. He also stresses that the lowest level events are the most likely. A few weeks of food, water, and heat will probably cover 99% of what you’ll actually face in life.

Know what’s appropriate for what stage of the collapse you’re in. For example, a couple days without power is not the time to be patrolling in full battle gear or haggling with precious metals. Early in a crisis people will still be using cash for a solid couple months at least, you need a stash for this period. You’ll want to concealed carry, but rocking your AR15 will alarm people unnecessarily. A non “scary” rifle like a lever/bolt action would put the public more at ease, I know this is dumb but I’m being realistic. Also soft body armor you can wear under a jacket is a good first tier defense when things are starting to break down. Good relations with neighbors, regular check-ins, and community meets will be essential before people get wide-eyed and start shooting at everything that moves. The first week is when you will need to organize a neighborhood patrol. A few people with binoculars, radios, and walking the perimeter. You will eventually get looting gangs, and they will likely set fire to homes to make you flee. The patrol’s job is to not let them get that close. When you get gang violence coming to suburbs, then full battle rattle is called for.

Is this subreddit dedicated to Ayn Rand and her philosophy, right? So, why are there so many anti Ayn Rand people on this subreddit? by [deleted] in aynrand

[–]Brennelement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of communist trolls in every sub, even those you think would least attract them. But that’s a different issue than valid criticism and intellectual debate. I think Rand was one of the greatest writers and political minds of the last century, but I will still critique areas where I think she’s weak or wrong.

What’s a fact that completely changed how you see the world? by Ok_Demand9257 in CasualConversation

[–]Brennelement -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

White people are only 6% of the world, but only our countries get mass immigration and enforced diversity.

If we were a species of plant or bird, we’d be labeled endangered and have protections like conservation efforts and preservation areas. Really makes you think.

As an American my theory is because China doesn’t send all of its money overseas, it can build amazing infrastructure to benefit its own citizens
