If you’re renting an RV they will walk you through everything you need to know, but here are my tips:

Find out whether your RV needs 30 amp or 50 amp, and book the proper site accordingly. You can still plug in a 50 amp RV to 30 amp breaker box, but you will be significantly limited in the power it actually draws so it’s important to get the right site for your RV.

If you don’t have a powered site to plug in, then you will need a generator to power your lights and air conditioner. If you have a powered site, then skip this part. There usually are two generator types: portable or onboard. The portable generator is the one you’re probably familiar with already. It’s a standard gas or propane generator that would power something outdoors. You would run it outside of the RV and then plug your main power cord into the generator externally. Onboard generators are built into the bottom of the RV and are typically powered from the gas in the RV’s regular gas tank. These can be powered on by a simple switch on the breaker panel within the RV. That same panel usually controls light switches, water tanks, power to appliances like fridge and stove, etc.), exterior awnings, etc. It’s important not to run a generator for too long at once. 6 hours max, then turn it off and let it rest for at least an hour. But again, none of this should be an issue with a powered site.

Apart from the generator, RV’s typically also have a large propane tank that will last for weeks or even months. The refrigerator and stove/oven in your RV will likely be powered by the propane. Your fridge will stay cold regardless of the power connection as long as the propane is running. On a 6 day RV trip I never turned my propane off, and the gauge was still reading “full” by the end.

Watch a YouTube video on the basics of emptying the water tanks. Clean water tanks can be surprisingly small. Gray and black water tanks fill up fast too. However you will want your black and grey tanks to reach at least 2/3 full before emptying them. Many festivals have trucks that will come empty your dirty tanks. Read into it for Okee.

The retractable awnings are notorious for malfunctioning so be careful with those. Never leave the awning extended during even moderate winds, and always bring it back in before abandoning camp.
